Touareg :: HID Headlamp Starting To Die

One of my Touareg's headlamps is starting to die. The vehicle happens to be in the dealer for a recall so I asked about a headlamp. How easy/difficult is it to change a HID headlamp?

I know the instructions are somewhere, but I am having trouble figuring out how to change the headlamp bulbs (high & low beams) on the easy side-driver side. Do I need to loosen the headlamp assembly or can I just go into the headlamp assembly without removing it?

My front headlamp keeps blinking on and off over hard road bumps. It doesn't always do it, but enough that it has become a problem. It throws a head lamp fault most times and goes right back to normal.
I used the tool to remove the assembly and slide it back in. It didn't seem to fix it. Any tips get it in there tighter? Or to make sure the electrical connections are tight? I am afraid it is adding a lot of wear and tear on the bulb and will burn it out soon. Plus it is annoying when the chime goes off.

I was washing my car yesterday and I was on the driver side washing by the headlamp. I noticed that their was no gap between the headlamp and the bumper where they meet. I further noticed that the bumper didn't match up right in the wheel well. Also the paint is bubbled up under the headlamp. I proceeded to the other side of the car and everything is normal.
I am slightly ticked off about this. I don't know what to think about this. The strange thing is that there are no scratches or dents or anything of that nature on the messed up side. Could this be something messed up from the factory since there are no scratches or dents? I don't really want to take this to the dealer.

My left HID lamp started to flicker quickly a month ago. It seemed like it was a loose lamp housing connection when I hit bumps. I took the housing out, coated the connections with electrical grease and fit it back in tightly. Now a week later the lamp changes to an amber tone after it is lit aprox. 10 secs.
Does this indicate the bulb is about to fail? Is this a common issue? 04', so I know it is out of warranty and I am sure the bulbs aren't cheap. I even did the vagcom mod to save the bulbs during the day

I am concerned about a vibration I have in my steering Starting at 55 mph. The dealer had tried several thing to eliminate that vibration but no change. A technical engineer from the Volkswagen Canada office came and tried my T-reg. His statement is that it's normal that the T-reg vibrate at that speed and they all vibrate. We even tried a new truck from the dealer lot and same vibration. The only problem is that nobody told me before I bought the T-reg that it's a normal vibration and it's part of the normal specs of the vehicle. Now what I'm asking each V6 driver to try to notice if their truck vibrate between 60mph and 75 mph. It's a little shake if you take your hands off the wheel.

In the morning, my Treg won't start on the first attempt. If I just click the key to the right (to start the automatic ignition process) it just grinds and grinds then dies. The second time it will start. This has only happened the last couple of days. Also I should mention that it has gotten quite cold around here. Although the car is in a garage and my wife's Jetta fires right up.
I've also been having Insufficient Coolant problems. After one week of owning it I took it to the dealer and they topped off the coolant. A week later the Insufficient Coolant message came on again and I topped it off with about 1 quart (litre) of distilled water. It's been ok for the last day or so. I haven't seen any external leaks. I love my Touareg, but I really hope this isn't the beginning of a bunch of problems.

Ever since I picked up my V8 Touareg I've noticed that the transition from stopped to starting can sometimes be rough, and that the shift from 1st to 2nd is often a fairly violent jerk. The worst transmission problem on my Touareg is experienced when I'm in stop-and-go traffic going around 5mpg in 1st gear then accelerate normally. The shift to 2nd is extremely rough.
I took my Touareg into the shop last week to fix this, and another problem I was having, and the car is still at the dealer. When I talked to my service advisor on Friday he said that this is a fairly common problem with later VIN cars. Evidently, they had to reprogram the transmission to meet some EPA regulation and that is causing rough shifting in the lower gears.

it never ends. upon start up of the treg ('04 v6) the a/c goes through a bunch of clicks and clacks. this used to be remedied with the activation of inside air only; now it does not matter and is non-stop. any remedies? i am going to get this fixed before i run over 50k. i am at 49550 right now!

I experience a sound, like a one stroke scrape of a piece of cardboard across sandpaper, after driving off 20/30 feet after starting the T-reg. I discussed this with the VW tech, and he said something about the drive by wire system engages something, and creates the scraping sound, VW thinks this is normal, and there is no fix for this.
What is this scraping sound? The sound happens once and only once every start of a journey, happens even when I am going straight ahead, and at slow speeds (about 20km/hr).

I have had my 06 for 4 months now. I started to get a cold running problem now that the temperature is falling below 40. When I start it in the morning I wait till the idle comes down before driving. I start driving and it runs rough as if it had a choke stuck closed. I spoke with the dealer and he told me to run lower octane in the winter. That has not worked.

I had my car in storage for the winter, pulled it out today.
The one headlamp was dimmer than the other. The other was operating fine.
The dim one went out after a few min. I restarted the car and it came back on dim.
Is this a sign that the bulb is burning out? or something else? What is the usually lifespan on these bulbs?

Is there a DIY on how to change the headlamp bulbs, DRL and turn bulbs? Do i need to remove the bumper cover and/or headlamp from the car or can i change the bulbs with the headlamp in place?

I have a HID kit in my ex and I noticed my front right headlamp out. I then started smelling like something burning. I popped the hood to find the hid box smoking. Needless to say I am ripping it out tomorrow. What's everyone using nowadays, I am going back with a standard bulb. I have the 02 style in my truck...

scavenged this awesome Lexus Headlamp whilest scrappin with gahbage in a junk pile clean up job The problem is.. I cant identify it. I googled just about every 'model' number on the back.. no go.
Looks like the 2005-2009 ES 450 Headlamps on ebay,( except its got a light tan color on the back) and different shape that leaves it resembling something Matel might have molded esecial up for a Milenium Falcon Lifesize model Redux, (minus Harrison Ford in a speedo).where to pull a number off this thing?

My front dipped headlamps both burnt out within days of each other and I replaced them with H7 Sylvanias. Pretty easy to get out, but they are too dim. I believe I do not have them installed properly.
Looking for PDF for this replacement procedure and/or give a description of how this is done???? It is kind of a bugger to get inside that housing. I am a mechanical novice with cars, but a competent M1/M14 gunsmith. I really can't justify paying VW $50 to install a few bulbs. I like fixing things for myself.

I have a 2007 prius. The headlamp, "high voltage", is going on and off. Is there an alternative or lower cost bulb and instructions on how to replace the bulb. I've heard you have to loosen one side of the bumper?

Just discovered moisture on the inside of my front left headlamp housing. I called the dealer and asked if warranty would cover it. The dealer said yes as long as there are no cracks in the housing, of which there is not. Have other members had the lens seals leak on their Accents? While the car is in the shop, I'm also having them check the pulleys, as theres quite a bit of movement side to side at idle. I also noticed alot more vibration at idle, enough to vibrate the front plate and the radiator trembles like crazy at idle. Does the main pulley also act as a counterbalance? If so, is there a pattern of those going bad?

My left Low-Beam headlamp stopped working. I replaced bulb and still no low beam on that side. Checked new bulb in opposite side and it works fine.

So I noticed the other night that one of my LED's on my headlamp flickered while they were on, with the key in ignition. As of today, the driver's side LED light went out. Where to to tap into to make an attempt to figure this out. Wires and connector seem to be all in tact.

Just picked up a GX470 today. Both headlamps work but passenger side not really shining. Is it common for lens to get that dirty? Anyway to clean it.
