I've noticed a gurgle type noise coming from within the dash board (it seems) while my T is idling at a traffic light. When I accelerate from a stop, it seems to go away. I'm thinking it's coolant running through the heater box. I have a V-8.....
View 6 RepliesGurgling/percolating sounds, car started making a few weeks ago. The sound is coming from deep inside our front dash area. We do plan on bringing it to our local VW dealers attention at next scheduled oil change. I started getting this noise as well about a month ago. My passengers commented about sounding like someone sawing inside the dashboard. I do like the percolating description better...
This is different than the other "running water" sound that you get when initially turning the car on. I was told that was normal.... This percolating sound happens while driving and I noticed that it does have the pattern of happening when at slow speeds or stopped in traffic (after driving fast for a while).
I have found the source of the problem....although it was not like this before....when the windows are fully closed and up....the noise happens ...when they are down...the noise is totally gone...what is up ?
View 2 RepliesIt just started and it it only does it at speeds over 40 miles or so. It comes on all of a sudden when driving sometimes. It gets a little louder when coming off the throttle as well.
View 3 RepliesHeard this really soft click-then-whistle coming from the dash area, usually shortly after starting the car? I hear it pretty regularly, it doesn't sound *bad* or *wrong*, it is just a really curious sound. Very mechanical in nature, sounds like a small hydraulic or air supply line, almost like a little relief valve. There's no whoosh of air, just kind of a really faint whistle, but very mechanized.

View 7 RepliesSo I have some road resurfacing happening near my home which I've been driving through recently. One thing that I've begun hearing is a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the center speaker area on my dash. I have the ML system so not sure if the standard audio package has this speaker. I'm not 100% that it coming from the speaker but it's somewhere towards the center of my dash.
View 2 RepliesI had a persistent soft rattle that sounded like it was coming from the dash area. Looked there, pulled the glove box off, taped a wire, and padded where the glove box meets the dash board, padded my right hand mud flap, and padded the glove box door upper RH corner, all to no good effect. Then just a few days ago I pushed the shotgun seat forward and reclined the seat back all the way.
The next day I looked under the seat. There are three yellow plastic electrical connectors that control the airbag and sensor. They are surprisingly rickety by design. Double side taping a 1.5 thick inch soft foam pad on top of the connectors, between them and the underside of the seat did the trick. I LOVE conquering rattles.
Just bought a used 2007 Passat 3.6L with 29K on it. Great car so far. However, I am wondering about a sound that is coming from inside the dash area. Sometimes when I am at idle, especially just after starting the car, I can hear what sounds like movement within the dash. I'm thinking that it must be the climate control system moving louvers, etc? It isn't constant, and really not all that bothersome. My wife at first thought there was a mouse inside! Is this something that others have noticed? Should I bring it in for inspection?

View 7 RepliesI have been getting a loud, high-pitched mechanical-sounding noise coming from the middle of the dash, near the CD player. It lasts only a few seconds, but it scares the sh!t out of me every time! It happens out of the blue after I've been driving for a few minutes about every 3 weeks or so. The sound is almost impossible to describe...but if you've had it happen you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. It happened today while I was listening to a CD, so I can't imagine it's the player that's doing it. Non-Nav/Air V8

It sounds as though I have a relay in the relay panel behind the headlight switch clicking on and off while I am driving. I searched the archives a bit and through my own reasoning, I figured it is not related to the hazard switch or turn signal stock ( I could be wrong though).
Description: It only clicks while I have my foot on the accelerator and the car is in motion, never other wise. It is not dependent on throttle location; it clicks the same way regardless of where the throttle is as long as it's being pressed. The clicking stops completely when the throttle is not being pressed.
Because of this, I am unable to locate the exact relay that is making the noise as it is impossible for me to open the door and look at the relay panel while driving. The clicking is some what erratic; It will click, pause for 2-4seconds click again then wait anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds and repeat. It's driving me nuts. Evap? Is this normal? Can it be stopped?
First real cold day here in Connecticut and I noticed a rattle which seems to come from sunroof area.( when I push up agains sunroof, it seems to lessen or go away. I had my radio off and it was very annoying
View 3 RepliesAs I was driving on the highway yesterday, I noticed an unusual heat coming from my car. I thought it was the air vents at first, but to my surprise, it was coming from the brushed aluminum interior trimming around the navigation and the that plastic piece around the key fob. There was also excessive heat coming from the the gas and brake pedal area. I am wondering what this is and I am worried that it might be an insulation issue.
There is also a very rough idle when I am at a stop on a red light. It got louder recently as there is a weird ticking noise/rattle coming from under the car, by my feet. This is definitely associated with the notorious idle issue on the 3.6 but my stealer cannot identify and replicate the issue.
Just got stage 2 tune with tbe and bhs pendulum mount. Loving it so far but there is a loud buzzing coming from the dash area every time I hit the gas. There is more vibration in the car now that will probably stir up some rattles but this one is pretty loud!! Doesn't sound like it is in the engine compartment but more like on or in the dash by the radio or climate controls.

I have been hearing a a very subtle (but noticeable) noise coming from within the dash area of my 2002 Passat (mostly near the glove box side, but also in the middle area). Noise occurs when the ignition is turned on - with or with out the engine running. It can be heard while driving, but is more noticeable when I turn the HVAC fan to off. The sound is random, and seems to be like a relay dithering, an intermittent buzzer or a fan noise (although no fan is on.) It sort of sounds like a cell phone vibrating randomly in the glove box.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 Toyota Camry and have a fluid like sound which seems to come from behind my dashboard. I took it in to a well known shop and they said it was a bad (ill fitting) cap on the radiator. Apparently air was getting into the system because of the cap not fitting correctly. They replaced the cap and for a year it was fine. Now a year later the sound is back.
It is heard pretty good when I start the car in the morning, accelerating after coming to a complete stop ( say like at a stop sign), or when the mood strikes it I guess. I took it to another shop but same franchise, and they could hear a lot of nothing. Of course that would happen and the car didn't make any more sounds for the rest of the day. The next day it came back and now I don't know what to do.
This winter when car warms to temperature and with climate control in auto I get fairly loud grinding/whine sound from area behind radio.
If I turn fan off, still get sound; like dampers are moving and rubbing trying to adjust. Set vent buttons to center or top and will stop for a while. Reset to auto and noise starts with or without fan on.
Last trip to dealer they claimed it would not do it; seems like the car has to be warm and outside temperature below 35F. Do the dampers work - vacuum or electrical? Don't remember the problem last winter, this year have had condensate tsb done and also had dealer replace main control module. Wondering if they could have pinch hose or some how caused binding.
Where another 09 owner had what he thought was a cold weather related squeak coming from the passenger side dash / windshield area. Mine does this and it's highly annoying. Here's what I've observed:
- seems to happen in cold temps, though I can't say what "cold" is...<40F perhaps?
- noticeable over bumps or whenever the car frame twists as a result of uneven road surface
- source seems to be the dash / windshield interface on the passenger side
- it's *possible* it may be coming from the top of the windshield as well
- it's very noticeable and highly irritating
Either with an 09 or earlier model? I cut a pool noodle and shoved it down between the glass and dash hoping the pressure would relieve whatever is rubbing. It appeared to work until the temps dropped into the 20s. Then it returned. I have a 2009 GLS, 5MT Sonata.
