Before I go digging in my "information not available at time of printing" owner's manual, is there a reason why the temperature display on the MFI would flash and make a "ding-ding" noise at me while I'm driving?
View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a used 2004 VW Touareg. The previous owner must've had long fingernails, as the driver-side fan button was extremely worn. At any rate, I was able to get a new button included in the "we owe" from the car dealer.
After the local VW dealership fixed the button, the LED screen that displays the temperature setting blinks when I start up the vehicle (like 15-20 times). It's very annoying to say the least.
Guys, my 2005 V8 is giving me the annoying sign (making a squeal noise while driving that actually goes away when I apply the brakes) that my pads are wearing out. "Just brakes" quote me $89 to change the pads. That sounds too good to be true.
View 5 RepliesWhile driving I noticed that the compass is not working or its gone into some mode or something. It shows PM 0:15. Pressing any of the 3 buttons doesn't do anything except holding down the 2 small buttons at the same time brings the name/version of the compass software and releasing seems to reboot or refresh the display. But after that it comes back to PM 0:15. I should also say that after parking and locking the car the display keeps flashing the PM 0:15. 15 minutes later I checked same thing it is still flashing. Whats happening to my compass?

Obviously my wife and I would not watch while driving, but we were hoping our passengers could watch a DVD on long trips, etc.
Temp gauge not working stays at C doesn't move at all. And smelling anti freeze while driving. The heat still works and not wet on carpet of passenger side. Does have an oil leak I think since I've had to add more oil again. Would that have anything to do with an antifreeze smell tho? Just checking before I have it looked at it. Also the gas gauge just floats that hasn't worked in a while though.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 Passat 1.8t I was driving along when suddenly it felt like I lost 3 cylinders and the engine light was flashing. I nursed it a couple miles to a gas station and it was making a loud noise and smoking ALOT I shut it off and had it towed home.
View 4 RepliesI have been reading threads all day. Noone seems to have exactly the same issue so I'm just looking for some clarification. Turn signals dont work but lights work as "parking lamps" and internal climate lights are not illuminating either. Also, my blinkers making the clicking noise but much faster when the turn signal bulbs are not flashing. I had a radio issue but that is resolved. Where do I start? Do I go right for the hazard relay? I read somewhere there was an ignition relay that could potentially be causing all of this?
View 7 RepliesI removed the long plastic cover under the right side of the car to expose the air pump. Switched the car on and looked for any obvious signs where the noise came from. Mine showed a missing nut and some play in the bushes. Some strategically placed cable ties, foam and a new nut and the air pump is silent again. Now who said these cars need deep pockets to maintain?
View 1 RepliesThe Touareg has been a great family car for last 6 years, no issues with it at all until a few months ago, when the hanger bearing or drive chaft bearing went out with only 45k miles. No loger under warranty so $500 later and all was back to normal, until last week when the car started developing a humming noise above 40 mph. Had the local shop look into it, they put the car on the lift with it in gear and seems the noise is coming from the transfer case, i search the site and i have a few questions. Is there a recall on the transfer case?
How much should i expect to pay for a new transfer case? Is this a known problem with these cars like the drive shaft bearing? Car is a 06 with a 6 cyl, still under 50k milles im not sure if i should get it fixed or trade it for a new car
Wiper makes loud squeek noise.
My even chatters at the end, squeek and chatters.
Also, is there a way to turn off "Rain Sensor Wiper?" Is there another "Slow" setting?

View 15 RepliesIts a 06, 80k on it, a few days start making this (thud) noise on the back, if I push the brake and let it go I heard that thud noise, like the rear deferential or the brakes, but not sure.
View 2 RepliesAny way to increase the brightness of the outside temperature display? During the day, when the sun is shinning, it's impossible to read....even if I take my sunglasses off.
It's almost distracting as texting having to stare at the display trying to read the numbers.
The drivers side set temperature display (heat/a-c) is super bright but yet the rest is very difficult to see.
I have 20/20 vision.
I tried the dash brightness adjustment (odometer reset) but that has no effect.
In the morning (especially when very cold outside) when I back up my car out of the driveway and then put it in D, turn the steering wheel 85% it sounds and feels like the front is "sliding" and making a little noise. It will only do this the first time I turn the wheel when the car is cold. It does not happen when the car has been driven. Is this normal? is it the drivetrain? The car drives great otherwise and there have been no apparent issues.

I am looking for a manual but in the meantime I have yet to even find the temp sensor let alone start tracing wires back to the the display for a fault.

Relay making noise while driving... I know it could be a bunch of different relays.
View 3 RepliesI purchased my 92 Silverado in Dec. 2008. Since I got it the temperature control display has been blinking 'A/C' for 2 minutes after starting, than goes away. From the owner's manual and the GM service manual I realize this means there is a problem in the A/C system. I figured that it was low on refrigerant since the compressor clutch would never kick on, that and that is what it typically has been in the past with other older vehicles. After buying the retrofit 134a kit, I recovered the stuff that was in it, then proceeded to add the new stuff.
The pressure kept rising but the clutch never engaged. I looked through the GM service manual and they suggested to do the obvious. Is there power to the wires i.e. the cycling switch and the clutch positive wire. There was not. I inserted a jumper on the cycling wires figuring this would complete the circuit telling me if the switch was bad or not. With jumping the cycling switch I still had nothing, the clutch never engaged. My next thought was well maybe the internal clutch relay or the pump was shot. So I ran a jumper from the positive post of the battery, to the positive post on the clutch relay itself. Then the clutch kicked in, I sucked in the 134a and everything was working. I also did this to the cycling switch, when I added power the clutch engaged and all worked.
This tells me I have an electrical issue and the mechanical stuff should work. I don't believe that it would be the cycling switch because with it jumped it should engage the clutch of the compressor and it did not, In fact it did nothing with a jumper on the cycling wires. I assume that I have an issue elsewhere that is causing a dead spot in the system or else the cycling switch would have power to it.
