Having trouble with the fuel level readings in their t-reg? When I fill mine up it shows as full but drops to 3/4 of a tank within 10 miles. Then it reads fine for about 300 or so miles and then drops to empty in about 20 or 30 miles. When I fill it back up it still has 6 or 7 gallons left. And yes, I am using 91 octane gas.
View 5 RepliesThe computer apparently calculates the fuel economy per trip (or a series of trips if the car is stopped less than 2 hours) but I don't know how to get it to display the fuel economy for the tank full. Normally I'd reset the computer upon refilling but since it calculates per trip it doesn't calculate per tank. Fortunately the fuel gauge seems to be pretty accurate and each mark is approx 1 gal so I can do a quick approximation but I'm used to having the car do the tankful calculation. BTW, I reset on MFA 1, I've never reset on MFA 2 and that doesn't show tankful economy either.

I filled up my very first tank yesterday (dealer gave me a full tank when I bought it) and the miles remaining display said 424 miles after I filled up. Does it display 424 on all Priuses by default?
The first tank gave me right around that many miles before I filled up - the miles remaining display said I had 9 miles left so I got too scared to see if I could go farther. But when I filled it, I only filled just under 10 gallons - does that mean there's more miles for me to drive, despite that remaining miles meter?
And...am I getting pretty bad fuel economy?
Been driving for 3 days now for a total of about 100 miles from a full tank averaging 50 miles per gallon. I noticed the gauge still shows FULL. Not even a bar below or something. Is there anything wrong with my gauge?
View 19 RepliesI put 30dlls but when it was going on 24$ pump stopped, and I insisted on getting 25$ so I put another dollar but tank was filled cause the gun stopped again , then I go with the filled tank 2 days ago, I have traveled 110 miles and the cluster keep showing full gas bars, not even one bar has gone, I'm worried about misleading info about gas, is this normal,, maybe tomorrow it start dropping ,,if not it can be reset? Or I screwed the tank sensor or something? There's a way to reset gas reading? btw 55.4 mpg on those 110 last traveled miles,
View 12 RepliesWe just got through changing out the 12 volt battery. Car is 2009 and had 60k miles but last summer was a killer hot summer in Texas. The care was doing strange things with the first start of the day with the triangle! coming on and then having to turn off the car and power back on to get it to go. So all posts seemed to indicate bad battery. We checked diagnostics and it was showing 9 volts. So now it is changed, diagnostics shows 12 volts but the gas indicator went to nothing. no bars. yesterday it was all bars. I supposed someone could have siphoned off all my gas last night but highly unlikely and too coincidental that it shows that after the battery change. Is there something we need to reset?
View 2 RepliesDue to my working within city, I hardly drive on highways so all my mileage readings are city readings. Recently I noticed that the mileage measurements at 3/4 full tank and 1/4 full tank were different. When I fill up the tank with 3/4 full and 1/4 of full tank left are very different. At 3/4 full, my city mpg is at 16mpg however when I fill up the tank with 1/4 of fuel left, the mileage is at 14 or less. This happens repeatedly. Could this be the sign of fuel pump dying?

View 10 RepliesI have a 2001 F150 Supercrew (5.4 V8, 2WD,Auto trans) and recently when we fill the gas tank, the fuel tank doesn't go all the way up to the "full" line. Don't know if this matters but: about a year 1/2 ago in a little town (while on vacation), we broke down and the trouble was the fuel pump. The little town did have a small auto-parts store, and luckily had the fuel pump we needed. Unfortunately we didn't have much as far as tools and we wound up tearing/cutting the filler hose and the vent line.
The little auto store did not have the correct rubber filler & vent hoses for my truck and would take a few days get in stock. We changed out the entire fuel pump and sender unit, and were able to modify some rubber hoses for a new filler & vent line hose. Everything worked great for a year 1/2 but in the last few weeks we have noticed that when we fill the tank, the gas gauge does not go all the way up to the "F" line to show full. With the price of gas, it is important to know exactly how much is really in the tank. Also, is there a battery in the ceiling console for the temperature and compass? Ours just stopped working yesterday.
Just bought a used 2012 IS-F 1-owner with 37k miles. Clean Carfax and AutoCheck - very, very clean car.
Test drove it with my wife, fell instantly in love, and signed the paperwork. As part of the dealer delivery, they gave a full tank of gas and washed/waxed the car.
While enjoying the 8 mile drive home in 5:00 traffic, regular speeds of 40-50 mph without any start/stop on the freeway and surface roads, I noticed that the range (distance to empty) on the full tank was only 169 miles!
I realize this is a hi performance V8 - but c'mon! Is there something wrong with the car?
I have a 2009 Sonata SE 3.3 with about 35,000miles. I am the second owner.
I believe that my gas gauge or the sending unit in the tank is bad. The gauge will show empty when the tank has fuel and then it will sometimes read normal.
I just bought a 2014 Prius- Pkg. 2 car. I had an '06 & an '08 Prius and kept the tire pressure @ 44 Lb.s for maximum mileage. I always fill my tank to the top well after the pump clicks off.
1) The dlr. told me I will only get an accurate MPG by not filling the tank after the pump clicks off. He claims the computer doesn't read the extra 1-2 gallons and that is causing me to get about 35 MPG even though the trip meter says 50 MPG.
2) The dlr. told me not to run my tires @ 44 lbs. Said it is a safety issue. I've been doing 44 lbs. since 2006 with great mileage and no safety issues.
Am I wrong for filling my tank to the top? My Prius has just over 600 miles today.
This has happened to me 4 times now in the 7 years I've owned my car. It happened so infrequently I thought the problem was the pump's sensor was not working properly. However now it's happened twice the last two times I've tried to fill up. On Friday my son was supposed to fill the car and could only get 1 gallon in and the fuel pump kept clicking off as if the car is full of gas. The bars never moved and I thought the problem was the pump. Then today, Sunday 2 days later, I decided to go ahead and fill it up. I have 250 miles to drive and want a full tank of gas. The tank shows 3 bars. I started fueling and it clicked off at 1 gallon. So I pulled the pump trigger again and tried to force more fuel in and it stopped and wouldn't add anymore than 1.7 gallons.
So now I have a long drive tomorrow and I can't figure out why the pump is clicking off as if the tank is full yet it can't be because I drove 250 miles since my son tried to put gas in and it's showing I have 3 bars.
I generally average north of 50mpg on a regular basis. Yet, my cruising range is always somewhere around 300~ miles for a full tank.
View 5 RepliesI am the original owner of a 337 with 292,800 miles, that's correct. I recently have had a fuel cutoff problem when the fuel tank gets less than 1/3 full. So I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter thinking that would solve the problem. It still stalls with a low fuel tank. It runs fine with more than a 1/2 tank. I have a Vagcom and no issues there.
Mystified at what could be the cause. Possibly fuel pressure regulator or vacuum line, is there a check valve somewhere in the fuel system that could be sticking, or what about an issue with the EVAP system? By the way this car still looks great, has been to the track many times as well as autocrossed, and still has the original clutch. Way to go VW. My race car is a spec miata.
Full tank and the gauge reads empty. Has happened to me a few times. Occurs after a fillup and disappears after the car is left to sit for a while off. I would hate for this to happen on a long drive. Dealer hasn't been able to duplicate the issue. Am wondering if this might be related to the hiccup in some way. Also, am wondering if this is a fuse issue.

All has been well in just over a month of driving the car and about 3300 miles logged. The 12v, Aux battery was dead from the car sitting on the lot for so long (I replaced with a new OEM Toyota 12v battery) After a week of the car experiencing dim headlights, and various other electronics
No codes or CEL though.

I just bought my 2012 Elantra Limited from the dealer today . The fuel gauge showed about two bars, a quarter tank I estimated. However when I went to fuel it, the pump clicked off after about 1 gallon, indicating the tank was full.
That was odd so I just figured there was some air in the tank or in the hose, so I tried adding some more fuel. I got about a half gallon more added when it clicked off again. Well, I know you're not supposed to top off the tank so I tried to add more. Got about two gallons added when it clicked off. I stopped fueling at that point for fear of causing damage.
My fuel gauge now shows a little less than half full. How can that be? Is there something I can do to fix this?
I have a 2007 Santa Fe. If I fill the tank to full, or close to full I will have a fuel smell in the car until the tank runs under 3/4. If I keep it under 3/4 I usally do not get the smell in the car.
The dealer could not figure it out and I still have this issue. It seems the smell is more in the front of the cabin then the rear. It just could seem that way since the smell is very strong. I have to park the car with the windows open.
There are no fuel leaks, no fuel on the ground, no drips, and the no spillage when I filled the tank.
So yesterday I was driving home from work.. I know my tank was 3/4 full. All of a sudden, my low fuel light came on and my gas gauge needle went to empty.
The needle sits at E, but it still says about 20 miles till empty on the MFD. When I left the house this morning, it said 5miles till empty.. by the time I got to work, it said 20. Kinda odd..
I will hook up the vagcom when I get home tonight, any area I should scan for? or just a complete scan? There is no CEL error on the dash though. What I could look at to fix this?
