View 6 RepliesI have been getting the "Running Gear Fault Workshop!" message on my MFI almost every day for about a week now. To clear it, all I have to do is shut down and restart and it goes away for pretty much the rest of the day. Is this something that I should get into the shop ASAP? Or can it wait a month until my scheduled 20,000 mile service?
View 1 RepliesOnce upon the time "Stop Fault Running Gear" appeared on central display in my T-reg V6TDI3.0 model 2006 with air suspension. What does it means? It happened only two times, once in snow off-road driving, second on the off-road testing area. I take the car to the dealer, but what does it means.
View 2 RepliesOn the way I get a msg saying that there was a gear fault. Not sure what it is and I can not find anything using the search. What this may be. After restarting the egg, the message has gone away.
View 7 RepliesLately I have been receiving this fault which looks like it maybe my suspension, but the fault says running gear workshop.
View 14 RepliesI have seen a bunch of the older posts. My V8 has been back to shop 4 times for the same problem. I keep getting "new battery cables" new command modules, power draw, etc. but no solutions. I am almost at the end of my warranty and am afraid i will go past without resolution.
View 1 RepliesSince we know that most VW service sucks, I'm taking my 04 V8, Nav/Air Susp 35k miles in tomorrow because the whistling/rubbing noise was bad enough on the ride home from work last night that it started freaking me out.
I want to tell the service department to at LEAST check the following:
Whistling: Gets worse with speed and when the car gets warmed up. Sounds more like rubbing when you get going. Check the drive shaft bearing.
Running Gear Fault: Check air suspension piston rings ( I need to look this up again) Something to do with the air bag or air pump seal.
Hesitation: There should be a TSB for this that can be fixed with a computer adjustment.
I have experienced an intermittent fault warning alarm and light that comes on sometimes right after starting my 04 Touareg V8 with air suspension: "Fault: Running Gear Workshop". It has been to the dealer once and they could not find anything wrong so they reset the alarm and since it has continued.
View 1 RepliesTook the wifes Treg in today for:
1. Crazy vibration at idle (feels like a V8 running an aggressive cam!
2. Running Gear Fault light on at random
3. Loud "ting" noise under WOT (sounds like a soda can in a bicycle wheel.
4. Onstar - Service not recognizing spoken numbers when trying to dial
5. Air Compressor - works for 5-10 seconds then shuts off, have to restart vehicle to get another 5-10 seconds of air
I had the service manager take a ride and identify all the complaints (other than the compressor and the Running Gear Fault)..he said he will stay on top of it. If you recall, last time I took it in for the vibration at idle, I was told that since no fault codes were present, their is no problem. When sitting at a light your head is literally bobbing up and down, everything loose in the car is shaking...just horrible.
They should have it for a while. I got a Treg V6 as a loaner and actually like it better than the V8 (my wife disagrees). Power is onpar with a vehicle of this size/weight. Felt great, but handed the keys to the wife and grabbed mine and RAN!!!!
I own a 2004 V8 Treg and the other day when I started the engine (and ever since) there is an error message displayed AIRBAG FAULT. I have arranged to take it to the dealer...
View 22 RepliesI have an 04 - V6 with about 55k miles. Tire Pressure Monitor System Fault is the message. The tire pressures are fine. Message appears after 15 minutes or so of driving. After another 5 minutes or so of driving, the fault message goes away - whey you click to vehicle status it says "OK". I took it to my local VW dealer, they said they fixed it, but on the way home from the dealer, it popped up again. They are perplexed. This is not the "Faulty wheel on board" message, it is totally different....
View 11 RepliesGot in my car yesterday and the airbag light on the dash stays on and a airbag fault message pops up in screen next to the speedo. What could be the problem?
View 3 RepliesThis started with the blinking compass (didn't think much of it)... then i got the "Running Gear Workshop" fault (brought it in 3 days ago and they said they fixed it)... but today the "workshop" fault returned, the voltmeter went dead and blinker indicators in the dash went dead (even though the blinkers are functional).
Boston VW just told my wife the "battery is fine" and then admitted they have "really have no idea what's wrong with it. 2004's are a mystery because they were released before the 'bugs' were worked out"... but they would be happy to get us a rental car (and have us pay for it) and they will try and figure it out.... (probably turn it on and off a bunch of times till the problems go away).
I have an early V 8 04 Touareg with over 60,000 miles. I have had no serious problems and it has been remarkably reliable until recently. I have had multiple "running gear workshop" faults related to the air suspension in the last month.
View 4 RepliesGot 2 warning lights today in the V10
1) Running Gear
2) Brake Assist
Vehicle is running fine otherwise... Will a Vag Com clear these?
I have a couple of fun curves I hit daily and most days I push the car pretty hard. So, I hit one the other day on the way home from work and the freaking airbag light came on with a fault message. I immediately suspected that when my seat belt tightened that the sensor in the seat belt connector freaked out. I later scanned with VAGCOM and confirmed that I have the famous high resistance message for the driver side seat belt connector. I remember that some people had luck by cleaning the connections to the bottom of the seat and the switch. Maybe that is all I have to do. Got to love the .:R. I break stuff as fast as I fix stuff.
View 13 RepliesToday, I got a message on the cluster that said Airbag Fault and then the airbag light has now shown up. Never seen it before...Why I might be now?
View 2 Replies I bought a new battery tonight at my local VW dealership and after replacing it in the parking lot I got into my car, started it up, and saw 'Parking Brake Fault - See Owners Manual'. Seeing as I dont have an owners manual as when I bought it used, it didn't come with one - The car is still driveable but does not shift out of gear and when I go to engage (automatic) Drive, Reverse, or Sport, from the Parked position it makes a hard clunk and small jerk before it engages. The MFD is as if I am still parked because I can access all the comfort sections, and all transmission selections are highlighted. Im not sure if it was in Neutral or Park when I engaged the Parking Brake before I changed the battery so maybe and Im hoping when I took the old battery out, and put the new one in, that something wasnt set correctly when the car started up after having no battery power???
I am curious to know what possible ways I can rectify this. Its sitting in the VW dealership parking lot and Im hoping they will be able to take a look at at it in the morning but of course I wanted to check here. Also, what does it say in the Owners Manual about a Parking Brake Fault?
How can one get a too lean AND a too rich error, within 150 miles? I'm guessing the too rich code was what through the CEL last night. For reference, the only mod is APR stage 1. That will teach me to drive "spiritedly" with a Porsche Turbo S. (which sounded amazing at WOT btw..)

I have 2004 V8 Phaeton ,the message LEVEL FAULT WORKSHOP. keeps appearing ,then disappearing, sometimes it will stay until the car is turned off,. When it comes some times even on long highway journeys I wont see it at all!. When it comes on nothing seems to change.
View 6 RepliesOK, so I've been getting the "Tyre Pressure Monitoring System Fault" warning message repeatedly for some time now. I had the "G" code TPMS control module installed last week (under extended warranty) thinking that that should fix the fault. However, the fault continues.
Do this fault might be due to dead or dying batteries in the TPMS wheel units (not covered under extended warranty)? If not, what else could it be?
