The dash brightness dimmer pot. The roller doesn't have much tactile feedback or resistance, so when I rolled it just beyond maximum brightness, the dash lights flickered and went out. [Of course this could also be a feature I'm not aware of... ] Fortunately, dash lights came back on when reducing from max. Best to just find a comfortable setting below max brightness and leave it alone. - IMHO.
View 14 RepliesI noticed the dash lights go from bright to dim depending on the brightness outside. If i go under an overpass even at freeway speeds it will dim down and then come back up during the day. Even if I have my head lights on during the day it does that. Is there anyway to stop this?
View 9 RepliesSo I have a 2003 Chevy Impala Base 3.4L V6 and for some odd reason when I turn down the brightness for my dash the lights on the radio buttons and screen becomes brighter and when I brighten the dash the lights on the stock radio lights go out. I started to notice this after the BCM was replaced.
View 1 RepliesMy first experience with Xenons was on my BMW 330xi which was a 2000 model year. (Maybe 2001, I can't even remember now.) The Egg's Xenon's seem quite similar in both brightness and coverage, as well as the sharp cutoff that they are famous (or infamous) for. So, thought I, HIDs (xenons) are HIDs, are HIDs. Wrong-o.
I was recently driving behind a Porsche Carrera at dusk. We both had our lights on. His lit the road awash in white. Mine were barely visible on the road. As I said, it wasn't dark out yet.
A friend of mine just purchased the RX330 (butt ugly from the rear). He complained to me about, among other things, the xenons having an incredibly sharp cut off. He's never had HIDs before. We switched cars for a short, few mile drive. While I saw what he was talking about, in that when the car was pointing downhill even a slight bit, the levelers had the lights facing so far downward that they barely lit up 20 feet in front of the car. I felt mine was slightly better. However, his side to side coverage was far superior, and the brightness of his lights were far superior, being much whiter also.
I have a 2004 F250 CCSB 6.0 diesel. The problem I'm having is that vacuum is bleeding off when the control is set to OFF or MAX A/C. I also have no vacuum at the MAX A/C level to close the heater valve. Looking for a vacuum schematic for an 03 or 04 truck with manual controls or how to know what the malfunction is?
View 2 RepliesWhat is the maximum safe tire pressure with 19" wheels? I don't mean cold pressure. I mean maximum pressure. My rears showed 50psi on the TPMS after 20 min of driving. When I got home and measured them, they were 50.5/50psi. It's been roughly 110 degrees over the past week. It is impossible to get a true cold tire reading because it doesn't go below 85 degrees these days. So... am I well inside a safe zone at 50?
View 15 RepliesI noticed the second night driving our new Touareg that the compass light flickered from dim to bright and back. A few minutes after the display went completely off. Haven't noticed it since but I have seen a few posts that suggest they turn off after 30 sec. and can be adjusted with VagCom. I called VWoA and they had no info on it yet. The other issue was the engine cover that was on the demo Touareg with identical options other than the color, is not on our new vehicle. Our vehicle we bought was delivered the night of our demo ride, so it is a late build...small center rear head rest...etc. When I questioned the dealer they said the engine cover was discontinued recently and is not installed anymore. I wish it was there, looks clean. Other than that my second vehicle is an '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I love to drive the VW over the Jeep. They did an excellent job on it.

View 4 RepliesTroubleshooting a headlight problem on a 2004 V8 Touareg. Driver's side xenon low beam flickered rapidly and then quit working. I replaced xenon bulb with OEM part, still not working. Swapped in known good bulb from passenger's side, still not working. Took to dealership, who said it needed new ballast, which dealer would be happy to install for a mere $900 in parts and labor. Declined dealer's offer, ordered new replacement OEM ballast (from Chrysler dealer for several hundred less than VW), installed new ballast, still not working. Cleared all fault codes using VAG-COM, still not working. Swapped in known good ballast from passenger's side headlight, still not working. Auto-leveling is still working in both lights. So...not the bulb, not the ballast. Wiring harness, perhaps?

View 15 RepliesI have a 06 sonata v6 with 120k. Today while driving the car started to lose power then the lights on the dash board flickered radio went nuts and the car lost all power. What could be causing this? Moved battery a little bit and got power back but then started driving and it did the same thing. I did have the heater on 2. You can feel it lose power while accelerating.

View 1 RepliesAbout 2 months ago my Touareg was rear-ended. I just got it back from the body shop and am finding little things that are not the same and I am wondering if they just need reprogramming or if these could be a bigger issue (going back to the body shop today)?
1. They replaced the entire liftgate, but the rear wiper is not working even though the washer fluid does.
2. The interior lights are on, even though all doors are shut, when the switch is set to the open door setting.
3. There is no beep when I lock my vehicle with the keyfob, but the lights blink.
4. There are no warning beeps for the parking sensors, even though the dash lights up.

I read other threads about the connections under the hood, both sides, which I unplugged and replugged. I also pulled the IOD fuse for a little bit. Then I removed the cluster and looked it over. Looked good to me.
Got code P1698 for manufacturers assembly control or something to that effect. Thought I checked all the usual culprits. The dash lights work fine, so does everything else. The dash gauges just don't work. This is something that has been an intermittent problem with the dash gauges going out periodically when hitting a bump. It leads me to believe a connection. But I checked all those.
My 2006 Prius wouldn't start yesterday. The dash lights blinked on & off and the fob was locked in the dash. About 5 mins. later it came out. I was able to jump start the car with no prob. I drove to the dlr. & they checked the bat. & charging system. They found no problems, but said I might want to R & R the bat. as it's 5 yrs. I want to stick with the stock bat. Aalso stated that the bat. was fully charged & when I went home I plugged in my battery tender. The car was wired for the tender already although I haven't had the need to use it until now.
View 6 RepliesShortly after I bought my "99 Expedition, the 4x4 light on the dash began flashing. The vehicle is in standard all wheel drive, and had not recently been in 4 wheel. Now, it will go into 4 wheel, light stays steady, the 4 wheel drive is working, but when I disengage it, the light returns flashing when in all wheel drive. In other words, the 4x4 light flashes when in all wheel drive, the light stays on when in 4 wheel drive. I don't think the light should be on unless the 4 wheel drive is on. What do you think could be wrong with the soccer wagon?
View 7 RepliesI had just picked my kid up from school, as I turn out of the parking lot my A/C stops blowing cool air, I check the A/C screen and it still says it's set on High with temp at 68. However, it is blowing very low with warm air. Seconds later the dash lights up with numerous warning lights. I'm on the highway and I'm able to gather speed, but each time I do I hear the engine revving like crazy. We only live a few miles from the school so I am able to make it home. Once home, I turn off the car and turn it back on. The only warning lights displayed now are the red triangle and the yellow check engine light. I turn the car off, pop the hood, I check the belt and it was fine. I checked the oil and it seemed fine. I check the coolant overflow and it was empty.

Any way to increase the brightness of the outside temperature display? During the day, when the sun is shinning, it's impossible to read....even if I take my sunglasses off.
It's almost distracting as texting having to stare at the display trying to read the numbers.
The drivers side set temperature display (heat/a-c) is super bright but yet the rest is very difficult to see.
I have 20/20 vision.
I tried the dash brightness adjustment (odometer reset) but that has no effect.
I am new to tuning vdubs i just got chipped and i am wondering what the max safe rpm is i am just curious cause when driving hard i keep it below the factory tachs redline (6000 or 6500 rpm i think) and i'd like to know how hard i can push her. I want to go with some friends to a drag strip so i can time in and have something to compare to for when i am done dropping cash into my car..
