When I am driving under 40mph with my AC on there is a constant knocking noise behind the dash, actually sounds like someone is back there knocking constantly. Every once in a while it will start squeaking. Its loud enough to be heard even with the radio on. Kind of embarrassing when someone else is in the car. My dealer doesn't know what it is and its driving me nuts!
View 9 RepliesWhen you turn the interior ac temperature from cool to warm there is a loud knocking noise coming from under the dash. I am new to working on explorers but it seem like its coming from the black box nearest the firewall above the transmission tunnel. When you turn it to cold the noise almost completely goes away. The noise gets even louder when you mess with the selector for "max ac" "head and feet" "feet" etc.
View 2 RepliesI have been hearing a muffled thud or knocking noise often, especially when letting off of the accellerator when coming to a stop...almost sounds like some kind of bracket might be broken and some part is slapping against another. No particular consistency in the pattern of the sound...very strange. I had the car in for service to replace the stepper motor and the tech indicated he thought changing it would take care of it...it didn't.
View 3 Replies2005 V8 TREG 74,000 miles ... Just last week.... My T-reg started to hear this knocking noise which seems to come from the engine on the driver side... I would say lifter sound but hoping that's not the issue. I do notice that when i start the car, no noise but when driven on the highway... I hear it especially when i come off the highway. On regular street drives, it takes a while for the noise to come up. I've had the Treg for about a year now and havent had any problems but this. I drive the car during the weekends and sometimes during the week.
View 2 RepliesOver the last 6 months I have had my car back to the dealer to look into wind noise and a knocking noise from the door mirror. At first they just kept saying they couldn't find anything wrong, then they said there was a fault report for the mirror and had the car in to get it fixed, but the noise is still there intermittently. After numerous returns for the wind noise I noticed that if I push on the door or the window it gets noticeably louder - the dealer took the car back in and said they adjusted the door but I still have both noises - they are intermittently better or worse. What the cause is - the dealer has suggested changing the door seal but wants me to pay for it and I am concerned I will end up paying out and still not get the problem fixed. As for the mirror I just don't know what to do....

View 8 RepliesOnce in a while, the car won't even attempt to start. All you hear is a click, then one or two more tries and the car starts. When idling the knocking can be heard, or when I push the gas the knock can be heard. I was once told it could be that the spark plugs are going bad and it is causing an issue with the pistons. Every so often the knocking will go away completely. Also with the car not starting it is not like you hear the car try to start, it is just a click and nothing else.

The last couple days my truck (1997 f150 4.6l) has been having starting issues. At first it would just turn over and not start then the battery would die. So i bought a new battery and yesterday now its starts sometimes but when trying to start it while its ttuning over it stops then starts turning and starts up. Then i drive wherever I am going when i get back in to start there's nothing.
Its not turning over at all but when i turn the key there is a loud single knocking noise coming from behind the dash near the passenger floor vent. Actually there ate two noise from the same area, one when i initially trun the key and another when i release the key. But after just sitting there doing this it will finally turn over and start. What this is, there are no codes being thrown besides my dreaded P0401 which i cant seem to get rid of either. Ive changed every part that has to do with the egr system and cleaned the throttle body replaced vacuum lines and still the code.
I've noticed a strange tapping noise behind the dash, it is irregular and literally sounds like someone is tapping on something. The noise is dull, somewhat plastic sounding, and short. I've only noticed it when I am driving around with the windows up and the air off, but it could be happening all the time but I just can't hear it. And again to reiterate, it comes and goes and the pattern is very irregular.
View 8 RepliesI have just purchased an '01 LS and there is a constant 5 beeps from under the dash. I have read the posts regarding this and realize it could be a defective srs bulb ( which does not light up at all ) I just do not have the time to take the dash apart right now, so I would like to know if I can just disconnect the beeper and ( hopefully ) in three or four weeks get into what is causing this.

View 6 RepliesIt just started and it it only does it at speeds over 40 miles or so. It comes on all of a sudden when driving sometimes. It gets a little louder when coming off the throttle as well.
View 3 RepliesThere is a constant buzzing/clicking sound that seems to be coming from my navigation in the dash. It makes the noise all the time, not just at random times. It sounds as if the nav is trying to load something constantly? It is really strange, also sounds like a computer when you first start it up with the clicking and buzzing.
View 8 RepliesI have an 2005 VW Touareg. I purchased it 1 month ago with 8919 miles on it. I love the thing! However I have a rattle coming from the part that is below the passenger dash. The good thing is it only rattles when i hit a big bump, however when u pay 30k + this is the last thing you want to hear. See Pic. How to remove this black panel so i may fix it? Dealer was no luck the typical "I didn't hear any rattles" ....
View 1 RepliesThe sound comes from under the dash. recently the blinkers stopped working all together so I tracked down the problem to the hazard light switch and replaced that and the blinkers are working now. However, the clicking sound remains and seems to happen more just after using the turn signal but the sound happens randomly as well.
I'm thinking it might be the turn signal assembly located on the steering column. So, I was thinking of replacing the unit (it has both signal lever and wiper/wash lever) .
My air conditioning was recently replaced and now there is a constant clicking or creaking that sounds like from valves under my dashboard.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS, and it has a constant airbag light on in the dash. I have zip-tied the connectors underneath the driver and passenger side to ensure they are not loose. I took apart the center console and unplugged, replugged the airbag module, and the connector close to the gear shift. The two fuses in the fuse panel beneath the storage compartment to the left are good. I am at a block. I can't think of anything else to check, and the shop wants $90 to diagnose the problem. I've also left the battery off overnight to see if that would kwor. Still nothing.
View 7 RepliesYesterday I started feeling a constant bump coming from the middle of the vehicle... i can really feel it with with elbow on the console. The bumping seems to speed it up with transmission but it does continue when i slip it into neutral. I stopped by the dealership and they said "It's prolly some motor that in the middle of the car. It happens on a lot of touaregs"
View 10 Repliesfor the past 2 years (ever since putting in a new battery) my Saturn as been setting off a constant alarm without the presence of the warning symbols on the dash. You know when you leave the keys in the ignition, and open the door and get that annoying klaxon alarm? that's what my car does all the time. sometimes it goes off by itself, but you usually have to turn off the car and "reboot" it. There are never any warning symbols lit up when it does this, only the alarm. I took it to my mechanic and he said that there was nothing he could do, taking out the fuse for the beeping would somehow disable the car? I will soon take a shotgun to the fuse box if I can't find out how to take care of this problem.
View 2 RepliesThis weekend I was driving home from my parents and noticed that on flat ground at a constant pace there seemed to be surging of some sort...Although I am not sure that surging is exactly what it was, but it is the best word to describe it.
Basically, if I kept my foot at an even speed (not accelerating or decelerating) I would get very subtle movement in what seemed to be either the differential or the transmission. No error codes were thrown and the battery gauge was spiked at 14 solid.
Experiencing a knocking sound coming from the dash area, sounds like passenger side, when slowing down or idling. Just started about a week ago and sounds like someone knocking on wood, or a door.
