Is there anything that can be done to stop my brakes from squealing all the time?

View 24 Repliesfor the last couple of weeks our 05 touareg has kinda been shakey, we knew it was time for a tune-up but hubby has been working crazy hours. Today it started squealing really loud every time he would let off the gas pedal. We went to to Midas and they said that it was misfiring in Bay 1 1-6. They told us that only VW would be able to fix it, but I found a couple of sites that sell them.
View 1 RepliesI have recently replaced my stock pads with pbr ceramics, front and rear. now my rear brakes are squeeling loud everytime i back up. i have tried to file the edges, did not work. What to do? change pads?
View 6 RepliesI've had the Treg for about 3.5 months now and at about 1500 miles I started to have intermittent squealing from the brakes. Now at 2300 its constant. I brought it to the dealer and of course all I get is the usual BS they feed everyone... brake pads today don't use asbestos and so the metal squeaks...blah, blah... total crap. No OEM brakes should squeal (let alone on a $40k vehicle) and its never been a problem with other cars with original pads. Is there a solution?
View 8 RepliesI get a musty odor from my vents from time to time. It usually happens on days when it is damp out and often on startup but sometimes it happens later in the trip. Its quite strong, unpleasant, and terrible for allergies.
I read something about this a long time ago but cannot find the posts. Found a TSB summary on VW's site but Dealer pulled it and says its for Passat. Thinking its something in the A/C or ventilation system.
Well I've had it with the low mph squealing of my brakes. I'm currently running the brembo 2bk 4 piston set up. I'm assuming it has race pads since it only squeals at low speeds. The pads are still good btw.
I do not track the car so I was thinking something in the middle pad wise. I was looking at the hawk hps street pads(they seem great with no noise) or the stoptech brake pads(pretty much the same as the hawks). They both will fit my brake setup.
My brakes will not stop squealing and it is driving me nuts. I have the stock pads / rotors with 12k miles and three track days. To try and get ride of the noise I have:
- pulled wheels and cleaned all dust from wheels and calipers
- I have the TyrolSport caliper stiffening kit and pulled and greased front bolts
- re-bed in the pads and rotors
- when I had the wheels off and working on caliper bolts the pads looked like there was plenty of material left
I know people have complained about stock setup making noise in cold weather, but that cannot be the case here. It lonely happens at low speeds. What am I missing to get rid of the noise?
I am having some issues with the brakes on my Camry squealing when I don't have my foot on the brakes. Its an intermittent issue and it doesn't start making the noise until Ive been driving for 15 minutes usually and mostly does it at speeds above 45 mph. If I gently put my foot on the brake the noise stops and as soon as I take my foot off the brake it starts again.
Also, if I drive for more than 30 minutes without using the brakes the noise gradually gets quieter and then goes away. Last winter I had the passenger side rear inner brake pad get worn down to the metal. I think the caliper slides had stuck, because they were hard to push in and didn't spring back. I put some grease on them and didn't have any noise for about 9 months and just recently the noise came back.
Now, I didn't use actual caliper grease, I just used lithium grease and Ive read recently that you need to use caliper grease because over time lithium grease will dry up. I've checked all of the brake pads and none of them is down to the metal or even worn down to a point where the scratches would touch the brake rotor and cause a noise.
In fact, about a month ago I replaced the front pads and the noise was still there. Now, here's my question: do that sticking caliper pins on the rear caliper would cause this noise and that I simply need to grease the pins?
So - I'm sitting at my VW dealership, hoping that their can figure out why I'm getting a high pitched, miserable squealing sound, every time I depress my brake pedal. It's metallic sounding, and with the history of brake issues I've had in owning other VW models, I just figured it was the brake pads they use. Sounds like their tech believes it is an issue with the tires??? I've got an 04 Phaeton with roughly 38K miles on it - and it's supposedly "certified"....
View 6 RepliesI have a squealing noise that seems to be coming from under the car when going 25MPH or over. It doesn't seem to vary with the rpms of the motor or how fast I'm going - it's either on or off with out much variation in pitch. Sounds like a dry bearing, but it's baffling as it will happen every time I drive for a few days, then will inexplicably go silent for a while.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2014 IS350 F Sport, I'm at 26k miles. My brakes are squealing and scrapping. Is it time to get new brakes already? How hard is it to do on this car? I've changed brakes on other cars!
View 5 RepliesI have 2013 GS350 I bought in October with 5k miles. Currently I have 14,500 miles on it today.
Every time I have a cold start on the car, When driving at low speeds and braking, it has a loud squealing noise. Once the car has been running and driving, it goes away and doesn't came back unless I park the car and get back in an hour or so later. I went to the dealer and the guy said it's "normal", said moisture gets in and needs a few minutes break apart and that's how Lexus designs their cars. Which is believe is BS.
Here is a video of the noise. This isn't as loud as I've heard it before. [URL] ....
I took it back into the shop and told them about the brakes squealing and rattle. They told me my rotors were glazed so I should replace them. Thought it was fixed, until I got home and still had the squeal and the rattle. I guess they can't seem to duplicate the problem but this is what my brakes sound like when I brake, or go over bump while braking: [URL]......
View 4 RepliesHad a problem with squealing brakes? My brakes squeal awfully when I am in stop and go traffic (in dry weather). Taken it to the dealer 2x and they've told me it will just do due to the pad having metal in it. I just have a hard time believing that my just over 1 year old car squeals like a dump truck..
View 9 RepliesMy brakes are squealing; going to replace pad or lining; what is typical cost?
View 4 Replies99% sure it's time for brakes. Sounds like the wear indicators are squealing. I'll pop the tires off tomorrow and take a close look. Found a thread on here about doing brakes. Sounds pretty easy.
View 9 RepliesActually this started occurring at around 10k miles and I find it odd this would happen this early. It seems to happen more often on cold days and after a couple stops its gone. Why is this? I have heard of premature brake where on these cars and that braking power is biased towards the back under normal braking. I really do not how there is reduced brake dive using the brakes this way but its a vw. Is it just the stock pads that are bad?
View 4 RepliesMy 2005 V8 Touareg has developed a squeal from the fan motor. I've searched but not found anything else on the forums. When you turn the fan on, you hear the squeal. Turn fan off, it goes away. Change fan speed, squeal changes.
I'm out of warranty now, so I'm hoping to fix this myself...I suspect it *might* be a simple solution like lubricating the motor axle. How to get to the AC fan motor? Is this easy to find in a service manual?
So, my 2012 Prius has 61,000 miles and I started hearing some terrible squealing from my rear brakes. This weekend, I decided to take the tires off and investigate. Turns out, that my rear pads were worn to metal.
I switched the pads with new ones. The rotor was still new and didn't need replacing. Torqued the caliper bolt to 25ft/lb and put it back together. However at the end, I forgot to put back on the two wire clips take keep the brake pads apart!
Do I need to put these clips on? I'm too lazy to take my tires off again.
Lesson learned: Turn clockwise and PUSH the rear piston at the same time to get it to go back in. Turning it alone does nothing.
My husband replaced the brakes on my 2005 suburban and they are squealing constantly now. He says it's normal and will go away as I drive it, I've only done about 3 miles so far but no better. So keep driving or something isn't right? For what it's worth he grew up in his dad's auto shop and has restored some cars so not a pro but definitely competent and he swears they are installed correctly.
View 16 Replieswhen i initially purchased "used " my 08 gs350 i had a problem with brake squeal. I kept taking it in to the dealer until they ended up changing front rotors , all 4 pads , and new shims .
Took my car into my usual mechanic to get an oil change. I knew i needed brake pads and he changed all four pads out for $350 .I am having a terrible time with brake squeal now. the mechanic is telling me that i have warped rotors and need to replace all four. He is telling me that he wont charge me labor, but the parts will cost $400.00 I goggled the cost of the parts and he isnt far off on the price . My concern is that his fix isnt the correct fix. Front what i can tell its the front rotors making all the racket.
What should i do ??I dont know if they re-installed the shims and have no idea what kind of pads were used . Thinking about taking it to the dealership and being done with it .
