Touareg :: Brake Pad Warning Light At 19,000 Miles?
Aug 21, 2007
Could there be something else going on, or should I really expect to have to replace the pads at 19,000 miles??

View 5 RepliesHaving issue with the hand brake? It works fine, just when I want to release it, the brake light stays on and when you drive away hand brake warning comes up and I have to play with the handle to make the brake light go away after release...
View 8 RepliesGot a check brake light warning in the display today, I assume one on the brake lights are out and need to be changed. Is this a simple plug and play change, and are the brake lights in the tailgate or rear quarters.
View 1 RepliesMy yellow (circle with line on each side) warning light for brakes is on in my 2005 VW Touareg. Only 9 months ago I replaced the front pads, rotors and sensors. When I put the car in drive and start to move the warning light flashes 'check front brake pads'. Is it possible it's something simple like a sensor? Is there a way for me to check that? Side note: I replaced the rear brake pads and rotors only 5,000 miles before that. I just want to see if it could be something simple before I take it in to be checked out and told it's something more sinister. I checked the level of brake fluid and it is full.
View 3 RepliesI took of the brake light above the rear glass hatch, it does not come on when braking, it is a LED light, tested with a 9v battery and worked ok but not working while installed, fuses are ok. Should I just buy a new one and replace it?
View 4 RepliesI'm getting an intermittent brake light warning message on my otherwise perfect '04 V8. It is the bulb in the center part of the 3rd brake light. To replace it I looked for access from inside or outside. No obvious way to get to it.
View 1 RepliesI got a loud beep and MFI warning "Brake Light Failure" indicating my bulb was out in the right rear brake light. A friend was behind me, I called his cell phone and he said, yup, its out. Then after a few mins of driving, the warning went off and the brake light was again functioning. This has then happened to me twice more over the course of about a week. The brake light still works, but I get a failure and warning sporadically.
View 2 RepliesIn my one-owner purchased-new 2005 Prius w/ 74K miles and w/ no maintenance/accident history other than doing all scheduled maintenances at Toyota Dealers along w/ recalls applicable at each time (other than we had Toyota replace the 12V battery last year just because I knew it would die at some point anyway and I don't like pushing my luck; I'm not 100% certain if there's been a recall on any water pump for this car and if so, don't believe the dealer has mentioned it), I have the following indicators which appeared all at once while I was driving along at around 45 MPH in no unusual circumstances (80F, dry afternoon, about 30 minutes into a trip of mixed speeds, no loads in the vehicle, no effect on the car while driving):
From Left to Right on the display:
1) Red Triangle - Master Warning Light
2) Orange (Symbol)CHECK - Malfunction Indicator Lamp
3) Orange (!) - Brake Warning Light (but it didn't highlight the word 'Brake' in red)
4) Orange VSC - Vehicle Stability Control Warning Light
On the Screen:
Orange Car w/ the ! symbol - Hybrid System Warning Light
We immediately aimed for the house (about 5 miles away); the car drove perfectly fine, with the engine stopping and starting at lights as needed, with speeds going from the 55MPH we were traveling at the time of the alarms down to 0 and back up thru 35/45 MPH and such per normal off-interstate driving. The battery currently shows all the blue bars, and the engine and hybrid systems showed charge/discharge as usual as we drove. There was no discernible change in the driving reaction of the car to brake, steering, accelerator, etc.
I washed the Touareg this weekend and when I got in to go to work this morning the "check brake pad" warning came on. It was quite cold after the car wash and the vehicle sat for 12 hours. Could the washing then sitting in the cold have something to do with this warning?
View 5 RepliesDang, my engine light came on at 5K miles and then a few days later it went off. Should I take it to the shop to see what's going on? Is it safe to drive? Even though the light is off now. Looking for a list of items that I can check myself before I bring it in to the shop? It seems to me that something might came loose and it tighten itself due to driving or weather???? Anyway, I like to check it or fix it myself.
View 5 RepliesWarning light came on and am wondering if there are others who have had this happen. Had the 15000 mile service just 300 miles ago, car has been in garage for 6 days without use, weather outside in single digits, but garage is 45 degrees. Waiting for tow to dealer.

Went out to my car at lunch today and the "Check Brake Lights" warning came on. I checked the lights and my top center brake light is out. No fuses are burned out.
Three days ago I get a check Brake pad warning in the MFD. I checked the fluid and it was fine. Since the all the pads look good could it be a bad sensor?
2004 T-Reg Campy White....
Yesterday our t-reg locked up on us, the Brake fault warning saying "Stop brake fault" came up, but the car was at a full stop. It was in park and I could not get it out of park, this has occured several times before but the dealer never found a problem, with a few repetitions of starting the engine and turning it off seemed to clear the fault. Not this time, just locked up, Also the air suspension fault warning came on with two clicking sounds, one from under the dash just above the accelerator and the other coming from the ignition switch. The dealer now says wait a week and he will look at it saying he would have to quote "tear into it" to look for a potential wiring harness problem. Our 2004 T-reg has been in the shop probably no less than 50 times in the last 4 years....
View 1 RepliesI've got some issues with my 2005 Toyata Prius (~150,000 miles). My wife was driving recently and the "Master Warning Light", the "Hybrid System Warning Light" and the yellow "Brake System Warning Light" all came on.
Some quick reading of the owners manual said we should take it to a dealer right away, but because it was a yellow, and not red, brake system warning light it seems ok to drive at least to a dealer. in regard to the yellow brake system light the manual said it could be that: "the regenerative brake system failed or that the hydraulic brake system failed".
Now, I have a cheap bluetooth OBD reader hooked up to the "torque" app on my phone and I thought I would try to see what error codes there were to learn more. But strangely, it did not read any fault codes. I've used this reader successfully on my 2001 Mitsubishi galant, but I'm not reading anything for the prius in this case. I'm not sure if there is legitimately no error code associate with the warning lights or if my app is just failing to read them for some reason.
The engine light came on with only 1700 miles on it. Is there a check list that I can go over to find the problem. I want to check it out myself before I take it to the stealers I mean dealer Or is there a way I can check it on the MFI?
View 3 Repliesbrakes are functioning fine, fluid is OK.
View 7 RepliesLately, I am getting the uncomfortable "beep" and a "Check brake lights" message every time I get cough in a traffic jam and guess what: I checked the break lights and everything is OK. It took me sometime to be able to check the lights when the fault is on because usually it disappears after 30 seconds or so. Off course, when I take it to the dealer we cannot reproduce the problem (is not every time I break, is only when a break a lot of times in a short period of time looks like something is overheating) . The beep is driving me crazy!
View 9 RepliesMy T-reg has come up a "Brake Assist Workshop" warning when I start the car twice. But after I restart the car, it disappear but I can't find the description in the manual for this warning.
View 2 RepliesHad my car parked outside of work for about 12 hours yesterday, and in the NYC cold front, the parking break must have stuck on slightly. When I started to move, despite the fact I'd released the parking break, I received a warning in the MFI that said PARKING BREAK FAILURE TO RELEASE. I pulled the handle again and heard it pop just a little more off. Everything worked great after that. If I hadn't received the alert I probably would have driven off with it on. I'd probably have noticed the hesitation and checked the break again, but the alert was useful. Some of the warnings in the MFI can appear to be a pain at times, but it's amazing how thorough a job VW has done monitoring the cars systems and giving real time information if something doesn't work. You just have to make sure you don't get info overload from it all!!
View 4 RepliesSo this morning when I started my car for work, the engine warning light turned on.....Last night it was perfectly fine. What surprised me was the car is only 3500 miles in. Why encountered the engine light issue this early in their ownership of the IS?
