This winter my (air) suspension has developed a major squeak. I did a search and found nothing.....

View 1 RepliesI'm a new Mk4 R32 owner in the Portland area and my driver's front suspension developed a nasty squeak on the long drive home after buying the car. When you hit a pothole or any sort of bump it makes a nasty "clink" sound under compression/rebound. It's only on the driver's side front, and it seems to be a bushing/bearing or upper mount in the car when I got it up on Matrix Integrated's lift.
Also - the driver's front spring is squeaking since the powder coating flaked off after all the miles.
Thinking of buying a cheap set of coil overs to remedy this and refresh some of the more worn suspension items. Car drives just fine too.
I have a 2005 Saab 97x. It has auto-leveling air suspension. Recently, it seems to have developed a slow leak. When I drive all day, it is fine, but each morning when I go outside, the rear end is eight inches lower than it was when I parked it the night before. If I start up the car, the pump kicks in, and the rear end lifts to its proper level.
View 1 RepliesAll of a sudden after coming back from an Alsp ski trip some sort of loud front drivetrain whine has developed. It's an 05 V8 with 4k miles on it. It's drivetrain because the whine scales with road speed and not engine rpm. It seems to only come from the front too. It starts to get real noticeable around 50mph and increases.
The odd part is I can turn the steering wheel maybe a quarter of a deflection either direction and the sound virtually disappears. I checked out the tires and the tear is good and no usual wear. I am thinking maybe a wheel bearing or a transmission output bearing. I just don't see how anything else could make this whine come out of nowhere so quickly.
Driving over some speed bumps today I noticed alot of squeaking coming from the front of my car. I am guessing it's the shocks. Is this a sign that my shocks are going out, or are they just normally squeaky?
View 10 RepliesI recently picked up a new 2015 Lexus IS 250, AWD with the F Sports package. I'm about to hit 3K miles on the car, and love it so far - only issue is I noticed recently that the front suspension seems to make a squeak when going over bumps at lower speeds (i.e. a parking lot, etc).
View 1 RepliesI notice if I drive on anything other than a smooth road the suspension squeaks a lot. Is this normal when its -30C or -22F? Car has 30000km and is 2.5 years old if that makes a difference.
View 11 RepliesI just replace my struts, tie rod assemblies along with the wheel bearings on my 2003 MKIV Golf GL. I noticed when turning at low speeds, the is a squeaking noise (rubber against metal). It sounds as if its coming from the shock tower but can't tell. The installation was relatively straight forward.
View 3 RepliesI have an 07 GS350 RWD, 132K miles.
Symptoms: Very audible squeak from suspension front and rear (not as bad in the rear) when going over bumps. It happens mostly on the driver side. I can replicate the squeak when I push down on the car in the front. It only happens when the weather is warm, lately when it's been 60 degrees or less, it doesn't make any noise really.
Another squeak I'm hearing is when I get in the car first thing after it's been sitting a while, there's a squeak that's coming from mid-body area (I think), and happens when I turn right, transferring weight to the driver side.
I've searched and saw numerous threads but haven't really been able to get a clear idea of what may be causing this. I did have someone lube the control arm bushing (at least I think we did) and the noise did not go away. Car feels smooth, but I wouldn't rule out shocks as a culprit. I'm trying to get ideas and narrow things down so I can start hunting for it when I have free time.
A few weeks back I heard a light squeak after going over the random speed bump from my driver side wheel. My mechanic didn't really think much of it at the time. It has gradually become more frequent, almost every time I drive now sometimes loud sometimes quiet. I am wondering if it is my control arm, what it could be? What would be the general price tag to get something like that fixed? I drive a 2009 Chevy Equinox.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2013 tdi. 40k miles. For the past few weeks iv been hearing a noise from the front. On small bumps or potholes or just going over a bumpy road its. Its like a rattle clunky sound. Going in my driveway I hear it too. I also noticed there is a squeak when i hit a medium to bigger hole. This is really annoying because this car is fairly new. Is the dealer gonna cover it if there is anything wrong?
View 5 RepliesThe rear suspension on my 2013 F Sport AWD with 27,000 miles has started to squeak slightly. It doesn't do it all the time but is audible from within the car even with the stereo at low volume. When the road is smooth it's quiet but it'll squeak on even slightly uneven pavement.
Of course the F Sport has air suspension. I haven't experimented with the different ride settings or height adjustment yet but it is audible in Normal mode.
My front suspension squeaks very loudly when going over even the slightest of bumps. I've looked at similar threads and have noticed some people replace the entire control arm, some just replace control arm bushings, others change the strut mounts/bearings.
Am I better off replacing all 3 components (control arms, bushings, and strut mounts/bearings) or just doing CA bushings and/or strut mounts? Do control arms normally need to be replaced? Car has 90K miles, and is daily driven year around during the cold Minnesota winter. My knowledge of suspension components is limited.
after I had my springs installed I noticed this air sound when I go over bumbs. is this normal.? if I upgrade my shockts to aftermarket will they make the same sound?
View 9 RepliesI have had a bad squeak on the front passenger side suspension. It only happens while you are pulling into a driveway, going over a speed bump, or driving slow on a bumpy road. I brought my car to my mechanic and he thought it was the control arms that were shot. They were changed after forking over some cash. I noticed right away the handling was better due to the control arms which is said were shot. But... the squeak is still there, and has not become lower sounding at all. He said it might have something to do with the suspension but it is not worth it to change all the parts.
View 11 RepliesMy car has developed a strange squeak from the front suspension when going over large bumps or speed bumps. Most of the time it only happens when i hit a speed bump with both tires hitting at the same time. It is a slow squeak not very high pitched but shouldn't be happening on a car with stock suspension components and less than 12,000 miles.
Why my car would be doing this, under normal driving conditions i don't hear any sounds. Its just when i go over speed bumps and large bumps on the road. It is also only from the front suspension.
My new truck has developed a squeak in the front suspension every time you go over little dips and bumps in the road.Which is all the time.
View 3 RepliesNoticed a squeak noise from the rear suspension when going over big bumps or humps, even going in or out tall driveways?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2005 with just a touch over 95K on it. I know I'm due (and maybe a little overdue!) for plenty of scheduled maintenance prescribed in the "Passport" between 90K and 100K but I've been pretty laissez-faire about doing much other than changing the oil every 3K and telling my mechanic to "just make sure everything looks alright" since I picked up the vehicle at 70K miles. I know - there should be some audible sighs from more responsible owners, a finger-wag or two, maybe even a reply chastising me for being so frugal about the maintenance. Probably pretty well-deserved. The original owner was nothing short of OCD with the maintenance so I consider myself pretty lucky. In my defense, however, I'll tell you: there's never been a thing wrong with the car in over 20K miles. Not a peep, squeak, growl, groan, whatever. Other than getting fairly inefficient mileage (~42 city/~48 highway - I live in a very hilly place and the hills always seem to be going "up" rather than "down" for some reason...)
View 1 RepliesMy wifes Passat wagon just got the 40k service and the dealer replaced the sway bar bushings in hopes of getting rid of some SQUEAKS that the car has made since we got it, it is lowered on h&r springs and bilstien shocks, however the sway bar bushings really didn't fix it, it seems to squeak when turning to the left and its definitely coming from the back.
View 7 RepliesMy RXh developed a suspension squeak which occurs during wallowy roads and when entering/exiting driveways. Anything that gives the suspension a good workout causes it. When I brought my RX in for its 30K service, they replaced both struts because they were leaking. The SA also noticed that my tires would need replacing at the next service interval. 30K miles sounds about right to me. He even pointed out that the rear tire closest to us was exhibiting more wear on the outside. btw, these are the dunlops
When I first got the vehicle back, I thought the noise had improved. But it was wishful thinking because its just as bad as it was when before I had the struts replaced. This is a bit of a cause for concern since basically there is a more serious issue happening if leaking struts were not the cause. (btw, I am irked that they put an additional 10 miles on my car while they had it and did not notice the squeak was still there).
Anyhow, now that I have it back, I notice that both the rear tires are exhibiting extreme wear on the outer rim, or toe wear.
Now for the million dollar question. Since the rear suspension is pretty much failing in multiple places, can it be to blame for the abnormal tire wear? I guess it is difficult to say for sure since we don't know what else is wrong with the suspension, but it they are causing my tires to wear unevenly, then the cost of tire replacement should be prorated and/or sold to me at a reduced price. Mind you, I bring my vehicle in every 5 thousand miles and I assume they do the necessary tire rotations.
