I have a 2012 V8TDI and when trying to reach the highest "special off-road" level after turning the knob to its rightmost position nothing happens. The last level indicator keeps flashing on the onboard computer screen and the car doesn't rise any further. It stays to the "normal off-road level". What am I doing wrong?

View 3 RepliesCar wouldn't start, electric came on but it wouldn't turn over. Towed it to Toyota Dealer. Trouble reported in window was "Check Hybrid System" and " Check CVS? and one other but don't remember. After leaving the dealer and arriving home, I had a call advising me that there was water in the hybrid battery to the tune of $6K. Manager told me that the car had to have passed through standing water or water rose to level where batteries were contaminated. Don't know of any flooded areas around here and no evidence of water on the carpet so how does water get into the batteries. Manager advised me to call insurance company to have them pay for it. Nothing surprises me today but how does water get into the system without flooding the car?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2002 Ford Explorer and I am still trying to figure out why the coolant will overflow in the radiator reserve tank. I put in a new thermostat and a new cap to the overflow tank. When the tank is cold, sat over night, I put in new anti-freeze to the cold coolant line. Then I start up the explorer and let it run for a while. The temp gauge goes up, then drops a tad and cold air comes out of the vents.
After I rev up the engine, I see the coolant level starts to rise in the overflow tank, then it goes to the top and starts to leak out. This takes a while being the thermostat has not kicked in to suck the fluid in. Before this happens, the heater core lines are luke warm. After the tank overflows, the remaining gets sucked into the engine and I get nice warm heat. What causes this. I had the test done to see if the head gasket is bad. The test was negative.
My 2012 RX350 now for over a year and like it a lot.........BUT.
There's seems to be a lot "road noise" that's transmitted back into the cabin, like driving over expansion joints on blacktop or rough road surface, is this normal?
I drove a 2000 RX300 for 100,000 miles and don't remember it being this noisy. Interior noise is great and quiet.
Trying to figure out if she jumped timing or maybe PCM went out. Car started dying going up hills then stalled out on level road. Found coil pack for #3 and #6 bad and replaced it. Other's arced ok so I left them alone. Didn't work for starting it so I checked the fuel pressure and got 37psi with key on and engine off.What would cause it not to even try to hit? Considering maybe it's jumped timing or the PCM is going out.
View 14 RepliesThis system has a feature that is supposed to adjust the sound level to compensate for road noise etc. I had a Ford with this feature and you could adjust the sensitivity. It worked great; adjust the volume sitting still and the volume went up and down as you traveled.
In the 2010 Prius, I have enable the feature but I cannot figure out if the sensitivity can be adjusted and I do not hear that it is working. I set the volume and start driving and as the road noise increases the sound just gets drowned out. If you turn it up, when you slow or stop it just blasts loudly; no adjustments at all.
I have just purchased a 2000 Passat 1.8 mfg 2/29/2000. I have no keys. I will have to get keys made and want to know if they require special programming. Dealer said its on fence maybe maybe not. Depends on when built. Any other info about what to look for would be nice. I look forward to being able to contribute in the future. For now I'm a newbie.
View 2 RepliesI am new to my Lexus and have owned the car a month now. I love it. The only part of the car I haven't quite figured out though, is locking the car via SmartAccess. About 50% of the time, I can't get the car to lock on the first try by placing my hand on the door handle and touching the sensor with my thumb. Tonight I tried 3 times before giving up, digging the key fob out of my pocket, and doing it manually. Its frustrating. Is there something i'm doing wrong, or is there a special touch I'm missing somewhere?
View 4 RepliesMy Touareg has 9400 miles and yesterday I checked the coolant level when cold. Inside the reservoir there is an awkward yellow cylinder with the max and low words. The manual is not very detailed about where the level should be like the oil, or at least show a picture. I noticed that my coolant is right underneath the letters LOW for the low mark. I would take it that I need to add, but need to confirm whether or not that is an OK level. Could LOW be the translation by the Germans for the cold mark? My American made GMC Envoy has a clear reservoir with precise max-cold-low marks so you can actually safely see the level even when hot and be sure about it. I ask this because today I had the 10000miles service done and the tech said the level is fine.

View 1 RepliesWhat are the odds of the brake fluid being low, and not being indicative of a leak, in my new-to-me 2012 prius two? It's at the "low" line. The dealer said they put all new brakes on it before they sold it to me as pre-owned & certified, so the low fluid level shouldn't be low because of related brake component wear.
View 4 RepliesI bought a tiguan 2012 2.0 TSI and I think there are some problems with it. First of all, when the car is riding in low rotation, it trembles until the car gear goes one level down. Is it normal or am I driving wrong??? It happens because I do not like to pull down the accelerator hardly. Another think is that the sound frame is kind of loose. I have noticed in other cars that it is normal. Is it?? I tried the 95 octanes petrol and it worked the same way. I went to a vw dealer and did a test drive and I also noticed the same problem. Why does it happen??
View 24 Replies2013 Camry SE. I hit a curb pretty hard on the right side. Dealer replaced both tires and wheels and lower control arms on the right front. $2,400. Now I notice a low level rumbling starting at 45MPH or up. Very little change in the noise as speed increases.
I'm wondering if they missed a damaged bearing that is causing this noise? I had the dealer test drive it and they can't seem to hear it.
The last week or so, the coolant level low light has been coming on in my 04 Touareg V6, and I've noticed that it is leaking underneath the car. I've been keeping a close eye on the level, and filling it back up until I could get it into the dealer. They can't get me in until the 24th, so when I was under it last night changing the oil I checked it out.
It is dripping from a round plastic piece on the firewall with a square "knob" on it. This "knob" has what looks like a cross indented into it. It was dripping slowly while the car was on, and continues for a few minutes after it's been turned off. I originally thought it was the a/c condensation dripping off, but it's definitely antifreeze.
I fear that it's the heater core and that it is leaking from the inside, but I could just be paranoid. It should still be under warranty (34,000 miles).
Yesterday, I rode in my son's 9-month old 2006 v8 (w/11k miles) and noticed excessive road noise, seemingly from the right front wheel area -- far more than I'm used to hearing in my 07's. It gets worse with speed up to 55mph, then gets better above 55mph. He has done some light off roading; I'm wondering if he has mess-up something, as it sounds like something is rubbing (or as if the wheels were worn to the cord and you are riding on serrated pavement). He plays his music so loud, he has not noticed any problem, nor did the dealer during the 5k-mile or 10k-mile scheduled maintenance.
View 6 RepliesThe other day I was driving off-road with a 04 V8 Treg with Nokian WR2's tires and got stuck going uphill in mud (there was a small river running that had created the mud on the side). I engaged the low differential along with the lock (both rear and front lock option) but could not get out. I finally had to reverse downhill and back out of my pursue to go further up the hill. What did I do wrong? Are the tires not suitable? Did I have to leave Treg on high differential? Should not lock the differential?

-Extremely cold day out (highs in the single digits)
-Will be hauling around people that like a very warm car
-Will be in a lot of stops and go traffic
Is the best practice to charge only to about 2/3 or 3/4 of the way full (according to the battery graphic on the HSI)? My thinking is the ICE will be running a lot while stopped at stop lights and waiting in traffic. And I might as well have somewhere for all that extra energy to go. I know we are kind of splitting hairs here, but I wanted to think about this situation before it actually came up.
So my car is about a year old with 21,000 miles and I just took a look at the coolant level and it's like halfway gone already? I've never seen a leak anywhere so is this normal?
