I have a 2012 Touareg TDI Lux which I absolutely love for so many reasons. Since almost day one my brakes squeek when I back up only. I now have 6200 miles on my vehicle and it drives me nuts. It can be wet, dry, backing up fast or slow and it shrieks.
Just dropped by my local dealer and was told it is something to do with the pads seating which is BS after 6200 miles.
We bought my wife's V8 2005 Treg new in December of 2006. It had sat on the lot of the dealership with several others so they were doing what they could to get rid of them. Anyway, it has been awesome, with a few electronic issues, but the one problem that will not go away deals with the brakes. They squeak all of the time and the Treg only has 13,000 miles. It seems that it goes away right after a carwash, or if I intentionally brake very hard. The dealership has inspected the brakes and states that nothing is wrong and that this just happens.
View 10 RepliesMy 2004 V8 Toureg has around 7K miles on it. The brakes are squeaking at a very high pitch. The same squeaky sound a bus makes when it stops. My dealership told me it is due to me not hitting my brakes hard enough. I have hit my brakes hard many times as of late and the squeaking continues loudly as folks will turn their heads. The dealership told me it is due to brake dust accumulation which if I wash the car they still squeak. Dealership also told me the VW regional field rep has told them that to rough up the brake pads which is a temporary fix. Dealership also stated if the brakes were replaced the brakes would start squeaking in a matter of a few months because this is how German cars behave. Not sure where to take this matter.
My other problems as of late are a bad power steering pump(replaced), bad suspension controller arms(new parts are ordered-kept hearing a popping sound when turning the tires and braking and grinding noise from the suspension), a bad keyless access module(replaced), steering column not centered(re-centered), wind noise from the rack ontop (basically to fix and probably only temporarily, unlocked them and then moved them forward a bit and then back to their original location- may have been loose as no more wind reverberation inside the car now), and rubbing from my driver side wiper. The brakes are the real thorn in my side at the moment due to other drivers hearing the noise while driving as they turn their heads. Very embarrassing especially coming from a new car!!
I just got my brakes fixed. I heard squeaking and they were rough. At the shop, they told me that the brakes had glazed. They had to machine the rotors. Mileage: 20K.
View 19 RepliesI may have read this on here a time or two before but just noticed our Tig doing it now...with only 816 miles on it!?!? it IS a truly an unnerving, shrill, sound...this will get old and fast! I'd hate to think i need to change the brake pads already, one thing for sure i WILL make mention of this when it goes in for the 90 day "inspection".
View 6 Replies2007 SWB all stock. My break squeaks when backing up, specially backing down slope on a drive way. I also notice my right rear tire have tire wears which might be related to vibration at certain speed (like 76-80).....
Should I check the breaks? Alignment? control arms? Maybe time to search DYI on breaks and see if I can do it or not.

About 6 months ago a slight squeaking sound started when only backing up. Now its progressed to a sort of grinding metal on metal sound with regular driving as well as in reverse. I can hear it the most when its in gear and I take my foot off the gas. I changed the breaks, checked the wheel bearings, did a clutch test, and the u joints look fine. Something weird happened yesterday, while raining out, it didn't make a peep. My drive shaft and u joints have a layer of rust on them...could that be a cause of the noise, and it went away when wet?
I think it becomes more pronounced if the ground is not level. Is this normal?
View 8 RepliesAfter putting my Ford Ranger in park and pressing down on the E-break to get the news-paper or mail. I've noticed that there is a consistent squeaking coming from the back drum brakes when the brake pedal is applied. But only for a certain period of time; then the squeaking stops.

View 5 RepliesMy brakes squeak from time to time, particularly backing up, but also braking forward. My mechanic said I have plenty of brake pad and nothing is being damaged. He said he has often seen the "squeaky brakes" problem in Mercedes and it is often difficult to pinpoint which wheel (or wheels) would be the cause of the squeaking (sound like metal on metal). Why this is happening?
View 2 RepliesI just had the left front strut replaced by an independent shop. Afterwards they noticed that pressing the brakes after backing up produces a single 'clunk' sound from the front. Not sure if it's from the left or right. Also not sure if it was doing this before the repair and didn't notice, or it just started. It only happens once, although I haven't tried backing up twice in a row.

1.) Everytime I go to back up in my car the whole car starts shaking back in forth like someone is at the front and back rocking it.
2.) After my car has been driven around for a bit and I return to campus to look for parking spaces sometimes I have to back up because there aren't any. Whenever I go to back up, it makes this loud sound like a bat hitting a metal pole and it can be felt throughout the car. It does it all the time now.
I am beginnning to get scared to take this thing offroading. Also whenever I shift from P to R it makes this loud THUNK sound. I am going to let the dealer look at it when I take it in for the 10K service.
We just bought a 2012 se and my wife has been saying it makes a clunk sound while backing up. Sometimes it does it over bumps. It sounds over my head and behind me when driving it. Almost in the pillar area of the back. Anything I can look at. Not taking it to the dealer yet, not a fan of our local place.
View 8 RepliesI have had my RC-F since November and two days after having it the brakes have been squeaking. I had thought that It would work its way out just had figured since it was new it had to work its way off of the brake pads. I have 1100 Miles on it now and it is still squeaking.
View 14 RepliesSo my front brakes are squeaking pretty damn bad, and I'm pretty sure that I need to replace them. However, with the history that we have with the rears wearing faster than the fronts, and since neither have been replaced in 30K miles.
I don't want to have to come back and go at it again, and would rather spend one day then two getting the job done. .

40K miles on it, and the rear brakes are squeaking.
I have some new rotors and pads picked out, but i dont know if i have the Bosch or the Girling rear calipers...
