View 7 RepliesOver the past few weeks we have not driven the Touareg as much and noticed something new. On cold start, after sitting for 1-2 days the transmission seems to slip when going from Park to reverse. Once in reverse, I apply throttle, the tack goes up, but the Treg does not move . It takes 2-5 seconds for it to go, then it smoothly starts to pull, slow at first and then catches up. Once I am backed out of the garage (25-30 FT), I shift to drive and there is no more slipping until the next cold start.
I called the dealership and they told me this was normal. I took it in for an overnight stay so they can experience it in the morning after sitting overnight. I also asked that the Transmission fluid be checked since the engine was in and out twice and it had a leaky seal. We have put in the neighborhood of 70-80K miles on the 4 Touaregs we have owned and I don't ever remember this symptom or problem.
2008 T2. The dealer says it's because I have my Parrot grounded to the radio chasis. I say they are full of you know what as it's been doing it since day one long before I installed the Parrot. It's a PITA at least once or twice a week when it resets all my presets to channel 184.
View 1 RepliesI recently bought a 2008 F250 with the 6.4 diesel indirectly from a dealership. The truck itself has 220,000ish kilometers, but the engine (as well as the turbos) are Ford reman that had about 12,000km when I bought it and I have only put about 6500km on it. It is already leaking oil but that is for another thread.
The reverse sensors, steering wheel controls and part of the stock 6cd radio have never worked. The towing system has errors as well. The fuel level sensor often has problems reading the new level after I put in fuel, but that is always fixed by disconnecting the batteries and forcing a hard reset.
I figured the steering wheel/cruise control problem was due to either a broken clock spring and/or the brake pressure switch. I replaced both those as well as the airbag because the horn relay failed closed when I put it back in the wheel. It did not fix the problem. The steering wheel buttons still intermittently illuminate, but the radio controls and cruise control buttons do not function regardless. The truck isn't giving any codes either.
The towing system will activate lights and brakes on a trailer as well as set the gain, but it will not detect that it is actually hooked to a trailer. I cleaned the pins, but I haven't looked any further into it. No codes for this as well.
The reverse sensors/system does not work. It will lock itself in "off". I am guessing this is because one or more of the sensors have failed, but I am skeptical that it would be just that given the trucks other problems.
The radio does work, but the auxiliary input/mode will not work. I ran the diagnostics on the radio and on 'Test 1' I got "SELF FAIL B1342 ECU" and "B2477 CONFIG". I tried to clear the codes, but I can't. I think this means the radio is kill.
First, the Touareg navigation radio has two AUX inputs, plus a telephone audio input. One AUX input is an AUDIO/VIDEO input. The other is an AUDIO only input. Below is a photo of two Dietz cables connected to the two different AUX inputs:
How to actually connect these cables and what parts are required would be too lengthy a post for this thread. So if you want to know these details, click on the link shown in my signature below.
If you put your ear to the steering wheel, does everyone's MFI make a buzzing noise? Kinda like a computer screen noise. Just seems a bit excessive to me, but maybe that is just how they are.
View 2 RepliesI was very surprised to find that after having only gone 3k miles after my last oil change (at 20k) my 2004 V6 Toureg burned a half-quart of oil. Asked my dealerships about this and was told this is normal and VW allows a quart of oil per 1k miles before they replace the motor. The service rep even said that I should have my oil changed every 5k miles even though the manual says 10k. This sounds like BS to be because I would drive my 2.8 VR6 8k between oil changes and it would only be a half-quart low. I used Mobil 1 synthetic of course. Has V6 burns a lot of oil?
View 9 RepliesWhen I turn the dial on my sunroof control just a click or two, the roof opens to a little more than half open. Basically, the roof has maybe 3 positions between 1/2 and all the way open despite the multitude of click positions on the dial. It's nowhere near precise. I'd like to be able to open it just a little sometimes (not tilt, open).
Is this just the way it is or will my VW dealer be able to adjust something?
Is it recommended to completely stop the Touareg before shifing from the Sport mode to the Normal driving mode?
View 4 RepliesHe has a 2002 Explorer 4.6. The truck is having a hard time going into reverse intermittently, hard shift in normal driving and thinks it has slipped in first gear going up his driveway that is steep. He is worried that he put slightly over sized tires and this may hurt his tranny. The overdrive has blinked twice with in the year. Possible problems that could create this he is thinking solenoid pack, servos, torque converter. The truck has 110k and never done fluids, Would lucas slip fix or hurt we have heard that these tranny's are finicy.
View 1 RepliesBy way of brief background, I have a 2004 Touareg with 180,000 miles. I recently noticed that the front left air suspension was sitting lower than normal after the truck had been sitting. I discovered that the shock was leaking air and in the subsequent days began getting "Running Gear Workshop" warnings on the MFI. I got both the orange ones and a red one that instructs you to stop immediately. It reset after parking, and restarting. In summary, I knew I had a problem.
Today, I stopped at the dealer and they confirmed that the fitting at the top of the air shock was in deed leaking. Attached is a photograph showing the fitting. It is important that you inspect these fittings ASAP if you have air suspension. There is a TSB that references corrosion and possible failure. See TSB 43 07 01
Initially I was told that the entire air shock would have to be replaced but after doing research and with the assistance of Spockcat, I discovered that the fitting can be replaced assuming the female portion of the connection is not corroded. Replacing the entire air shock assembly is expensive. Apparently, there have been some instances where the fitting has failed during driving and bad things happen.
I picked up my Black V8 w/ Teak and all options yesterday evening and love the Touareg so much I can't stop playing with it. Funny, but I think the Nav is pretty good - and it seems like the latest software version has fixed many of the gripes on this forum. Of course I never had a nav system before, and I did see that the MDX's system is pretty snazzy. I read the manual carefully, but how to shut the radio or CD changer, but keep the Nav or Map screen displaying its goodies? Let's say I'm playing the radio and then want to switch to the Nav or Map but shut off the crap music. I couldn't figure it out, and ended up just lowering the volume.
View 18 Repliesquestion is, how to I get an AUX input into the radio? Looking at the Denison units, assuming I can find out exactly what unit I have. Also - the sound is not too bad. Plays 'louder' than I expected. Is there an amp somewhere? Looked in the rear panels, nothing spotted.
View 10 RepliesI have no sound at all from radio,CD or Nav... nothing, nadda, zip. I checked with vagcom and all speakers show open circuit. It shows a DTC 00464. All of this followed an Output test performed on Controller 47 (Sound System) which worked fine.
View 4 RepliesI have the nav radio with CD changer. Today I took a phone call and switched off the power to the whole nav radio to take the call. I sure wish there were a pause button for the CD player, but that's for another post. Anyway, I was enjoying the song I was listening to and it had just started so rather than just turn it down, I turned the radio off figuring that was the only way to get the CD to stop playing. When I turned the nav radio on again, it was mid-way through the next song. I tried it again, this time using the scientific method of singing along with where the song would be if the radio were still on. Sure enough, the CD player keeps playing even if you switch off your radio so when I turned it back on, I was only seconds off of where I expect the song to be based on my "by myself in my car" singing. If you switch to radio (FM/AM) and I'm sure any other input, the CD does stop playing.
View 18 RepliesWhat tire pressure are you running on your 08 R32? The door jam label says 39psi, but that just gives this car a bone jarring ride. Can I get away with 34-35psi?
View 1 RepliesIs it normal to have variable fan speeds when Ac is on? I understand on WOT Ac deactivates on some cars but when it happens I'm just cruising along coming to a stop, the fan speed increases.
View 1 RepliesLately when i take my key out of the ignition, my radio stays on and my car will chime with the door open as if the key was still in the ignition (and it lasts for different periods of time). I also have found it more difficult to get the key in and out. Obviously there is something wrong with the ignition.
View 1 Repliesbring my 04 V8 in for second service in two weeks to fix the same two problems, (i) low voltage error messages in MFI, including AC off, Electrics Off and Fault Running Gear, and (ii) fix the keyless entry. So for, item i is fixed. Item ii is not and it's going back next week again. Further, they were supposed to take one of my two keys and replace it with a new one since the key I use was giving me an error message that read "key not present." So, they coded the new one and instead of coding my wifes key, they send hers back for warranty replacement and gave me the same dead one back.
Here's the new one. I'm driving home from work tonight, radio on a great tune, and I turn on the rear defroster. Guess what, the radio cuts out. Soon as I turn it off, the radio works again. On all stations, although some have more static than others. What gives??? Never had this problem in 4 years of ownership. It's like the ole gal knows she's going back in 8 weeks and is being replaced by an '08 T2 and she's revolting.
Is there any way to stop the Nav / Radio unit from turning on the radio each time I start the truck, even if I had previously shut the radio? If I wanted the radio on, I would have turned it on! I can't find anything in the MFI.
View 14 RepliesI have a standard radio/CD player on my T-reg. I have a friend who recently bought the Toureg Nav system in Germany. Can I have mine upgraded? What do I need to do?
