View 3 Replies2011 F-150 Classic Sync w/ satellite factory radio. A few hundred miles over warranty the radio controller side of the steering wheel buttons has randomized, where the buttons each do a different function, but none of them turn the volume down. Volume Up changes the source, volume down = up, etc. The cruise control side seems to still work.
I have disconnected the battery cable and also done a software reset on SYNC. Read on on other forums to disconnect the air bag and open the steering wheel to spray electrical cleaner in there, or for other radio problems to pull fuse #2. Is this a ghost in the machine type issue?
Also, I have had the truck in for service one time already for the driver door speaker fading out when turning right at specific volume levels. They put in a new speaker which resolved it until the warranty ran out and now it happens again. Could both of these be indicative of a bad radio, or deeper wiring problems?
So I was talking to a guy today with a 2002 Limited diesel. I noticed that his truck didn't have radio buttons on the steering wheel. I thought all 2002 Limited had radio buttons on the steering wheel. The inside of his truck also had simulated wood grain in places that my truck (also 2002 Limited diesel) didn't have.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2012 GLS and on the way to work this evening I noticed that the volume/channel buttons on the steering wheel for the radio will not work. The mode button still works properly, so I attempted to change the radio station on the radio itself to no avail. No buttons other than the volume work on the radio as well.
View 11 RepliesDriver side power window buttons area is peeling like mad! I noticed its just a plate with plastic and some cheap peel off stuff that is attached to it. Is there a aluminum or wood trip kit to add to those areas. Passenger side is not so bad. My car is otherwise looking like the day i bought it one year ago. [IMG][/IMG]
View 1 RepliesI let a freind, Phaton owner, drive my Touareg this morning and he showed me that one can select band and channel from the control dial on the steering wheel. I can't seem to find details in my manual. Looking for operation details?

Are you able to control/change radio chanels and cd tracks from the buttons on the steering wheel besides the controling volume. I remember when I test drove a base model Treg the salesperson was showing me this using the thumb wheel he was changing radio chanels. For some reason I can't do the same. Are there any secrets to this?
View 11 RepliesI was wondering if with vagcom you can change the scroll-wheel on the steering wheel to run through the 6 presets, rather than just going through all of the stations. The way it is, I find it useless but it would be great if it could go through my presets. Maybe I just missed it in the owners manual...but I don't think VW gives you a way to change it... Btw, it's an '04.5 V8 w/ nav - fully loaded.
View 5 RepliesI've read the manual many times...and I know it was this way too in a previous Passat I had. On a V10, can the steering wheel radio controls be made to change 'preset radio stations' instead of scanning to the next higher/lower station???
View 1 RepliesWas installing my new radio and somehow the lights for the buttons wont come on when the headlights are on. Is there a fuse i can check? Where is it located? I checked under the hood but i didn't see a fuse for dash lights.
View 2 RepliesMy steering wheel's rubber is peeling off now (the area under the telephone buttons). Is there something i can do to fix it? I am just thinking about color matching that with some gray duck tape as a temporary solution.
View 1 RepliesMy 2012 Sonata is flaking in the grey area on the steering wheel around the cruise and volume controls. Is there a remedy? Would it be covered under warranty? It's nothing major, but annoying none the less.
View 21 RepliesIn my 07 Camry I only have the volume, next and previous, and mode buttons. I'm wondering if I can add more like the phone buttons. I bought a aftermarket in dash headunit so I wanna use it to it's full capability.
View 14 RepliesAs the title says, the leather on my 2010 S steering wheel is flaking and peeling. There was a bad spot in the leather of the original wheel at the 12 o'clock position when I took delivery. The dealership replaced it and now the new wheel is doing the exact same thing in a different spot. It is from the 7 to 9 o'clock position. Nothing rubs in this area, I do not put my hand in this area, I don't wear anything sharp on my hands like rings and there is no way my skin is rough enough to shred leather so I am assuming it is some sort of defect in the material.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2011 GTI and lately I've been running into an issue with my steering wheel buttons and the RNS-315.
Issue #1: When I use the left button to toggle left/right between my radio presets (does it on both FM and Sirius), if I hit "right" it will go left. If I hit "left" it goes right...but only 3 times. On the fourth time it will jump to some random station. This happens all the time.
Issue #2: When using MDI connected to an ipod, the left button lets me switch through the songs just fine. but every once in a while (for example it has only happened once this month) it will freeze up and the left buttons will no longer function (e.g. let me toggle between songs). When this happens I switch to radio and the same deal, buttons are frozen. turning the radio off and back on again lets me switch once, then it's frozen again. If I turn the car off and on, it's back to normal.
My wife has had her 2008 ES350 for a couple of years and the finish on the steering wheel button have been rubbed away. I have seen where Lexus fixed this for newer models. My question is can I fix this or replace these button rather easily?
View 3 RepliesI have a Volvo XC90 2.4 D5 2004. But none of the buttons on the steering wheel are working - not volume for radio, not cruise control.
Symptoms are following:
* buttons on the steering wheel are lighted up
* buttons on the steering wheel are not working, none of them
* horn is not working
I have checked internet over and over and have 3 conclusions, what might be faulty:
1) steeling wheel lining/wire/connections - but in this case they would work periodically and the buttons would not be lighted up;
2) steering wheel module (swm) - in this case also the turn signals would not work and also the headlight would be faulty;
3) clockspring - in this case the airbag light should light up in dashboard.
The backlighting of the steering wheel controls are getting very dim to non-existent.
View 6 RepliesHaving fitted a 9W7 - 7P6 035 730 C bluetooth module to my 2009 Passat recently, to replaced the old basic nokia universal car kit system. Everything works except I can't operate/control any of the phone menu which display on my white MFD screen, the "phone" button, "OK" button, "arrow up" button, and the "arrow down" does not want to communicate with the bluetooth module. I have a 8 buttons multi function steering wheel. all function in rns510 are working(address book,call history,etc...)
View 4 RepliesI tried searching this - read about 06's with wiring harness issues. Is this the same problem.
It started with the aribag light staying on after startup (MFD message "airbag fault") and then today (2days later) the steering wheels buttons don't light up or work.
All of the other buttons on my 05 are fine but for the last year or so the defrost buttons only work when the wheel is turned at least 90 degrees. I am guessing that there is a contact strip of some sort. How hard is it to get to the backside of these buttons?
