I have a 05 V8. I have had in it 3 times in the last month for a bad headlight which was finally fixed now this error message popped up yesterday.
By the right I will not be taking my VW back to the dealer...
As the subject states, I got the MFT message: 'CHECK HEADLIGHT RANGE CONTROL'
Battery gauge = 14 solid
All other guages normal
Received the MFI message "Check headlight range control"?
I have a 2004 V8 and the automatic leveling feature seems to be working correctly. If I stand in front of the vehicle, it appears that the headlights level themselves when the ignition is turned on.
I have noticed a couple times while driving at night that the headlights did not appear to be shinning down the road as far as they have been during other trips, so I'm thinking the problems could be related.
It is a fairly new vehicle, Touareg SN 42xxx. It has two problems, which might be inter-related, both of which have defied all the repair attempts of a very competent and concerned dealership.
First problem: The warning message "Headlight Range Control" keeps on appearing. Much work has been done to try and fix this: Alignment of lights checked, suspension level sensors checked, vehicle inspected for damaged wires, etc. Later on in the process, both headlight assemblies and the instrument cluster were replaced. The message still appears.
Second problem: This is really minor, I only mention it because it might be related to the first problem. The instrument cluster trip computer (MFA) will not store accumulated mileage over a series of trips. In other words, if the car is stopped and started a few times, the trip computer will zero out.
1. What is the procedure in doing a basic setting for the xenon headlights ('04), what group (i.e. 001, 002 etc.)
2. How come I cannot delete/erase the DTC or error code (Headlight is not adjusted/MIL on, no basic setting.
Lately every time I get into my 2004 V8 I get the warning check headlight range control. How to fix this or does this require a visit to the dealer?
View 1 RepliesI've got a 2005 Touareg V-8, 17,200 miles. I've got the xenon lights and the problem is as follows. I started getting the "Check Lights" message on the MFI. I checked the lights and everything was on and working. I took the car for service and had the dealer check it out. Of course the dealer couldn't find anything.
They checked for fault codes and didn't find anything. Once I left the dealership the message came back on so I turned around and went back to the dealer. I left the car on so that the fault codes would not clear. They instantly hooked the car up to there test equipment and found the fault code, the code indicated that the problem was in the left head light assembly circuit shown as B+ as the problem.
Since then they've replaced, the headlight assembly, the control module, the wiring harness and still today I've got the same "check Lights" thing going on. When the Check lights message comes on I loose my left light all together, the problem is getting worse and they don't seem to be able to find the problem.
Having problems with air suspension/compressor? Mine has totally failed with an error message of RUNNING GEAR FAILURE- WORKSHOP!

View 10 RepliesI got the bec autoparts gti reps from Ed. I know HID's aren't perfect so sometimes they don't turn on but just turning the headlights off and then works to have them turn on. Whatever no big deal, but, every time it happens I get a check low beam headlight message that won't go away until I disconnect the battery terminal. So what I'm asking any trick with vcds to disable these messages. Idc to not have that caution. I just can't read German and don't know how to maneuver vcds.

They thought it was nearly ready to go, but the latest error message showing up tells the driver to "put the vehicle in P" while driving.

View 7 Replies2004 V8 Touareg. Was getting all the "low voltage" error messages. "workshop fault" "headlight adjust" "brake system". Then one day I used my second key and get a "Key Battery not Found" message.
Dealer says the "low voltage" error messages have to be reprogrammed out of the computer and cannot be simply cleared. FYI I have a vagcom. They say there is no fix and I can either pay for a new battery or come back in to have them reprogram when they come up again. Is this true? New battery makes no sense to me as the battery is only two yrs old. Seems like quite the hassle as any cold weather and not starting up the car for a couple of days and I got to make a trip to the dealer. Is there a fix for this?
"Key Battery not Found"- Never saw this message until I used my second key. It obviously has a key battery since it opens the doors. Dealer is stumped and they wanted me to pick up the vehicle telling me that it was fine and the message didn't mean anything.
1. I think my battery is getting weak.... when i cranked it, it didnt sound strong and the original battery eye says to add distilled water. I am thinking about getting a replacement battery at Costco.
2. so right after it started, the message of "Check Brake System" shows up. Tried to restart but no go. Drove about 15 miles and all seems fine but message is still there.
* is it OK to replace with a Costco brand battery (they have a great returns policy) and is there anything i need to do before or after replacement?
* could the Check Brake System be due to the weak battery? How can I reset it?
* Anything else that can cause this error message?
My friend got an 04 treg v6 and has that warning up on the cluster. How I can fix this? And does my vagcom cable for a mk4 work on a toureg, or is this canbus?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 TReg, V8, and air suspension. In the past three weeks I have gotten the following error message displayed for about five seconds each of the six times it has appeared on the MFI:
"Electrics: Consumers are switched off."
Nothing seems to happen while driving; the radio and everything else seems to keep working.
It happened once while I was driving around in low differential. The message read something like:
Drive More Slowly or shift to High Differential
I was only doing about 5mph when this happened and haven't been able to reproduce the error.
This is only the third unique error message my Touareg has shown me in its first 8 months of life. I wonder how many different error messages are programed into this car. (I bet there are many). I'm not being critical. I find it fascinating. I have never driven a car that was so in touch with its inner workings as this Touareg.
As far as the owner can tell, the car is running fine. He hasn't driven it aside from getting home after the light came on. It seems to give a very informative error message. What it's saying?
View 4 RepliesSo with all of the snow we've been having in the north east this is usually an error message I get almost every week. Normally this is due to the front sonar sensors being covered in ice or snow and will go away once it melts when I'm parked in the garage or is washed off.
However the past few days, I've had the car washed a few times to make sure the salt is off of the sonar on the front bumper but I'm still getting the error message stating to check the front sonar. If I leave the park assist on it works for the sides but not the front and the error message still stays on the screen. I've hand-washed the sonar sensors several times and 'massaged' them in place to maybe break up some ice behind the bumper or get the sensor to work but I've gotten nothing. Upon further inspection, one of the sensors has a deep scratch in it to where you can see past the paint of the car slightly.
I'm really not looking forward to taking the car to the dealer to have them look at the sensor because they will most likely charge me a ton. I saw a few other posts on the forums about the LS400 from '99-'00 having a similar issue and it cost them $550 to get it fixed. Obviously it's not the same car but I'm expecting a similar quote. I'm assuming the paint scratch is what is causing the issue as another post for the LS mentioned the same thing and said they had to scratch all the paint off of the sensor to make it work again.
I have a 2006 RX400h. On 3 occasions I've been stranded. The car won't start and I get an error/message Shift to P when Starting. However I am in Park. It's coupled with a Check VSC System warning. Service department says I have just drained the accessory battery, however nothing is being used other than standard equip such as lights, dash etc. I've had all batteries changed in the car over the 4 years I've owned it. Is this usual?
