Our recently purchased '04 V8 Touareg is increasingly sounding like a jet turbine engine upon start-up, and especially as winter approaches. We're told it is probably the DC-powered fuel pump. Any way to reduce the aural effect?

View 2 RepliesWhat is the solution to fix the secondary pump humming/vibration noise? I get this humming noise from my driver side center dash area and according to few other members, it's the secondary pump. Some dealer fixed it by moving it to the side a bit to stop the vibration.
My dealer told me that's false and it's normal to make that noise (never had this noise before) and if there is something wrong, VWoA will issue an TSB to fix it..
Well, they won't do anything until there is an TSB and I was wondering if it's a easy fix that i can do it myself??
I have noticed a loud humming sound coming from the truck when I have the AC on. Also you can feel the vibration as well. I turn off the AC and it goes away. All this happens on an infrequent behavior but does happen daily. what gives?
View 2 RepliesI bought the car( like six months ago) there has always been a loud humming noise from the fuel pump ( I'm pretty sure it is the fuel pump anyways) not the normal whirring noise the fuel pump makes but a hum you can hear about ten feet away. Had no issues till just lately when the afternoons are well into a hundred degrees. That is when my car starts giving me issues. After one of these hot days on my ride home from work, I had just come off the highway and stopped at a stop light when I felt the engine bogging out, the engine stalled and I had to push it to the side of the road.
Its worth mentioning that this humming noise is much louder in the heat than the cool morning then when I turned the key to hear the fuel pump(auto fuel inject) it was louder than it has ever been, and would keep stalling on the way home, I had at the most a quarter tank of gas (gas boy is busted/stuck I think) the fuel pump is bad? Could it be the sock? I thought I read somewhere that my girl pump uses gas to cool down, and that having the tank any less than a quarter could lead to the fuel pump overheating????
Is it normal in these vans to here the fuel pump humming? I hear it when I turn the key on and while I am driving. It never gets quiet.
View 3 RepliesOur 2012 camry se had a problem with the fuel pump running when the engine was off. Several hours after we came home I went into the garage for something and heard a humming noise. First thought was a distant neighbor using a leaf blower, then realized it was coming from the rear of car. definitely coming from gas tank area. Turned key on, then off and noise was gone.

View 6 RepliesI'm getting a loud gurgling type pump noise when removing the fuel cap. It is really something I have never heard before on any vehicle. It's not a quick hissing noise. It is a constant motor type noise coming from the fuel filler. I tried it again today because the dealer was there, but since I have a 1/2 tank of gas it did not happen.
Each time I have needed to fuel up, I've heard it. So I suspect this noise occurs when the tank is low...within 3-4 gallons left.
06/2003 Touareg V8 Driver side fuel pump shut off after 15-20 sec after start is that normal? I know that the passenger side is stuck and needs to be replaced but just wanting to be sure that the driver side pump is supposed to act like this.

View 8 RepliesI worked with my buddy troubleshoot and remove a faulty fuel pump. He received it a week or so later and did the install himself. After this, he states that while pumping gas at the gas station the nozzle no longer cuts off automatically when full causing overflow. He says this has happened at different stations and different pumps. I told him to go double check connections and that everything was sealed. I am wondering what could be causing it..
2004 Passat v6 wagon auto
5.4 L, Engine runs if primed at the intake. Fuel pump can be heard running but no fuel gets to the engine. Truck is mint and being sold real cheap due to this issue.
Fuel Pump? Filter? Both? I haven't seen the truck, a friend is considering buying it and rolling the dice it is a quick fix. Fuel is in the tank .....

View 7 Repliesi have an 04 f-150 with a 5.4 motor. about 2000 miles ago the power steering pump started to whine really loud. I sucked out the power steering fluid and started it up and the fluid that back into the tank looked like it was gritty and rusty. I replaced it out a few times and no change. I then did the job of replacing the power steering pump which was about a 5 hour job.
It was quiet for about 5 miles and the new one started whining. Every week I have been sucking out the old fluid and replacing it and it still seems to be gritty. What could I do to quiet it down? the steering works perfect btw. I am looking at selling this truck and buying an 09 or newer ford and want to quiet it down before selling it. The truck has 88,000 miles on it and i am the original owner.
I have a 2004 V8 with 27k I have noticed lately that the valve noise seems awfully loud. I am sure this can't be normal. I am going to take it to ;the dealer to let them listen. I can hear them now telling me that is normal.
View 24 RepliesSo after a long trip from my vacation I ended up running over a dead deer on my 2004 VW Jetta GLI 1.8T AWP. As soon as I hit the car turned off. I was looking around to see what the damage was and everything looked intact but my car still wouldn't turn on. I checked some things and came to the conclusion that there was no fuel running to the engine (whenever the key would be on the "ON" position the fuel pump didn't make the usual "whirring" sound meaning it was on).
So I checked the fuel pump fuse, that was good but when I checked if there was current in the fuse, there wasn't. Then I disconnected the fuel pump to see if there was current going through the connector and there wasn't. This led me to check the fuel pump relay. Relay looked good and when I checked to see if there was current going through to the relay, there wasn't. So my issue is that the car is not turning on because there is no current going through to the fuel pump and no current to the relay and fuse.
where in my '06 Prius is the fuel pump located?
