My 2004 V8 clunks when shifting gears, causing the engine to oscillate right through the seat. It also happens when driving a steady speed, e.g., 10MPH in traffic, and you goose the gas or release the gas altogether. So far:
1. Replaced transmission valve body
2. Replaced stepper motor
3. Replaced rear propellor shaft and bearing
I think this started with a reflash of the trans to cure the death lag.
Occasional clunk when truck is shifting gears. Not consistent. On highway at high acceleration clunk is more apparent. Any thoughts. 2004 v10 with new engine placed at 70,000km now at 85000km. Otherwise truck is running great.
View 8 RepliesLast summer my 04 SantaFe (140,000 mi, automatic) would feel like it was sticking and bumping when backing out of a parking space, then after shifting into Drive it would jerk and then make a huge thunking noise when applying the gas pedal. However, this would only happen sometimes, not all the time, and was not dependent upon the weather, surface, whether it had just been driven or not, etc. It would just happen when it happened. I brought it to the Hyundai garage and they replaced an axle and sensor. I continued having the same problem, brought it back to the garage and they replaced the viscous coupler.
I continued to experience the same problem after that, brought it back to the garage and they had the car for 10 days. I was told they had to get a mechanic in who was familiar working on 04 Santa Fe's and they determined the axle they replaced was bad, so they put in a new one. Everything ran great until I brought the car in early February for an "off balance ceiling fan" noise when accelerating. I brought the car to the Hyundai garage again and had the transfer case replaced.
Now the "clunking/grinding" is back when moving from R to D!!! So I brought it back to the garage again Monday and they said they cannot find anything wrong, and they are convinced it's just a symptom of the age and mileage of the car. However, it happened again today, but worse than ever before. This time it felt like it might not even move from R to D, and then it continued the grinding and bumping after accelerating and then the car felt "sluggish". I am convinced something is really wrong, although they assured me at the garage that the transmission is good, the axle, sensor and boot are all good etc. What else could it be?
i have an 04', 70k. no surprise.. just a big bummer...
is there anything else i can do to not have to get a new driveshaft?
i only get the clunking after 20mph..is the bearing bad too? is it the rubber that bolts up?
its in a tough spot so i dont know what it looks like(yet)
Every so often, my manual transmission Corolla will "overthrottle" during acceleration, especially shifting into 2nd and 3rd gears (and sometimes even 4th), i.e., the engine will race above the usual RPMs associated with each gear, just for a bit. This however, isn't consistent. I still need to check if the engine air filter is dirty, which I suspect could be a part of the issue.
The vehicle has ca. 124,975mi, and only started exhibiting this problem 2-3 months ago, and only in 2nd gear. Again, this issue is very intermittent, and sometimes I can go a week or two without any incidents at all. The regular maintenance (oil changes, cooling system maintenance, etc.) has been faithfully performed according the manufacturer's specifications.
When driving, getting up to about 30 mph, a loud clunking noise and feeling seem to come from under the center armrest. I have looked underneath to see if something came loose or was missing, but nothing looks out of place. Increase in speed makes it get worse.
2004 Touareg V6 67k Miles
I have a 04 V8 with a hesitation in the shifting. The VIN is in the 44000's. The dealer says there is nothing they can do to flash the tranny, they've tried and it won't let them. I found the TSB referring to the engine code and they insist it doesn't apply to my vehicle. Is there anyway to find out for myself whether or not it is possible?
View 4 RepliesI've read the throttle lag posts with interest. Ours only lags when performing a "California" stop where you go from the brake to the gas and look for an instant pick up. Seem to have about a second of delay before anything happens. Of course this causes all sorts of unnecessary lurching and I don't like it. Does everyone else experience this as part of their throttle lag problem?

On my V6 2004 (just hit 120,000 kms, just changed the oils 2 weeks ago) I was driving on the hiway yesterday, when the whole vehicle started shaking and vibrating - engine light blinked a few times, then stayed ON solid.
I could reduce the shaking by letting go on the throttle pedal, so I stopped and checked, nothing obvious, oil level good etc. I could hear some sort of clunking noise when engine was revved up.
When my ex shifts from 1st to 2nd I get a clunk. If I let off the gas right when it shifts then it shifts normally. Also if I can get the rpms to 2000 or higher then it shifts fine.
View 13 RepliesWhen shifting gears, mainly in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd while the air conditioner is on I'm experiencing jerking / clunking. When I shift it's not a smooth movement and produces a thump. The only way to really avoid this is by letting the clutch out very very slowly. It only happens when the A/C is turned on. Shifting is perfect when the A/C is off.

View 1 RepliesHave any other PP 6MT owners experienced strange throttle hesitation while shifting with a APR 1.2 HO tune? I know what turbo lag feels like, but it is almost as if the throttle position is not being read for 1-2 seconds after shifting.
No matter how hard/fast I shift, I can't get the tires to chirp, even shifting at high RPM. When I watch my speedo after shifting, the needle does not move at all until the delay ends, and of course it moves fast when the boost builds. But for 1-1.5 seconds after shifting, with the pedal to the floor, I would expect some acceleration, even not at full boost.
Even when not shifting, and going from no throttle to medium/full throttle, there is a delay with no acceleration and no significant noise/rev build.
I don't remember this being as pronounced before I was tuned. Also, I had GFB DV+ installed about the same time, but I would expect the DV+ to make this better, not worse.
Have had some issues with some intermittent clunking when I shift or let off the gas. It only clunks when shifting from 1-2 or 2-3 or when I am btw 1500-2500 rpms and let off the gas to coast a bit. There are times when it won't clunk at all or it does it all the time, I can shift fast or slow doesn't matter. The dealership I bought the car from couldn't find anything wrong on my last service. Also when I put the clutch in sometimes I hear a bit of a clunk as well. Also I notice moving the shifter from gear to gear when shifting feels very notchy, but most of the times its smooth.

When I park my car and shift from R to P there is a clanking/clunking noise and I feel small vibration on shifter itself when the noise occurs. It happens all the time and the noise loud enough. Is that normal? Up to this moment I thought it is normal (it still very well maybe) until I drove my friends Audi that does not have any noises when playing with the shifter. View 2 RepliesTransmission Problems in 2001 Volvo XC70 with 123k... A year ago, I had the input and output speed sensors replaced after the service light came on indicating a transmission problem. The transmission has always made a clunking sound and now it is having a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd when doing city driving for a while. It jerks significantly when it finally shifts. It is usually fine in the morning on my 3 mile commute but if I am running around town or after coming off of the highway, it has a hard time shifting. The book states only to have the transmission fluid changed every 52,500 if you use the car to tow which I do not. Should I just give it up and get a new car as everyone I know is recommending? I love this car and otherwise it is in beautiful shape.

View 12 RepliesWhy does my C6 shift at 4000 RPM when the throttle is open? My motor produces peak torque at 5000 RPM, and peak HP at 6500 RPM.
I would like to have the lower gear until I exceed the peak torque at least.
Hauled my last 2 cord of wood for the season, and I now have a pretty good 3-5 slip in and an intermittent bang/clunk when its shifting. So I've put this off for a long while now, and I want to fix it. I've done my research, and I don't really feel like I'm any further ahead than before I did my research.
I'm looking for recommendation's on what transmission and or kit is the best for my truck. I pull my 5er 10-15 times a year mostly up and down the east coast. We are looking to get a new 5er with a bunk house, my goal is to stay in the same weight neighborhood, I run 13-13,500 now depending on where we are going. The goal is to be able to get maybe another 3-5 years of use from the truck, maybe more, and then upgrade to a newer truck. So let me hear what you all recommend as I'm going crazy and probably over researching what I'm gonna do...as usual.
