Touareg :: 2004 - Position Of 4x4 Dial?
Jan 21, 2007
I just bought a fully loaded 2004 Touareg but didn't get a manual! If the 4x4 dial should be on High, Auto Diff, or Low for regular driving conditions? (getting manual tomorrow)...

We got a ton of snow dumped on us today and for some reason my 4WD has decided not to work this year. I have a 2000 F250 4WD Triton V10. The hubs click into the lock position and the dial on the dash lights up 4x4 but I am definitively not engaging into 4WD. I'm pissed because this is specifically the reason i bought a 4WD and it's failing me. I can't find a fuse panel diagram to save my life however all the fuses in the interior of truck look to be fine.

My 2004 V8 touareg is throwing CEL code P0022. 'A' Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 2)
What would cause this? I found that these all could be related:
- Valve timing
- OCV
- Camshaft timing gear assy
- ECM
Would any of these cause it to burn oil more quickly? What steps are taken to diagnose the whole problem?

I've noticed over the last few days that my seat position memory is gone. I thought maybe it was because i was using a different key, but that is not the case. I tried resetting buttons 1, 2, and 3, and neither set my seat to the position i specified. Button 1 is the only one that works, but it puts the seat all the way forward. Is my comfort module shot??? brand new car.

I'm so frustrated after running several errands in the rain yesterday, and being unable to unlock the Touareg (V6) using the remote key fob unless I'm right next to the car and in a certain spot. It's been an ongoing problem since we got our car in November, but I'm at the end of my rope. It's also embarrasing to be standing in a parking lot circling the car trying to get it unlocked with the remote key fob. This is affecting both the doors and the rear hatch. What solutions are available?

I flipped my center arm rest open (2-button version in a V8) and it just is stuck in the open position now.

My exit seating position was working great up until this morning. The seat remains in set position. Am I missing something or is it to the dealer I go.

I suspect my flashlight is malfunctioning. The contact for turning it on/off seems to be acting up. When it is in the "off" position, it turns on if you touch it or hold it in a certain way. A few days ago we noticed it was on after entering the vehicle... it could have drained the battery! We checked, and it was in the off position. Should I go to my dealer and ask for a replacement?

The driver's headrest on my 07 V10 will not lock in the down position. The buttons on the side of the headrest only release from up to down. After a day of driving it works itself up and is annoying. My dealer looked at all of the 07 Touaregs on the lot and they all were the same. My 04 V8 never had the problem of working itself up.

Problems with the passenger side automatic mirror sticking in the down position (position it assumes when Touareg transmission is put into reverse). I have had my Touareg for about 1 week and the mirror does not return to the regular position when I place the transmission in drive.

2005 V8, 25k miles. This morning I started the car and heard a clicking noise in the dash right behind the keyhole. It was intermittent and sounded like a cricket as I was driving. It was not too loud, a few db less than a turn signal click. Every few seconds, the MFI message said "Place lever in P position" ... Nothing else doing anything abnormal. Car otherwise sounds and drives fine. The 4WD knob was in high for normal driving.

My darling wife just called me and told me that one of the people that she was transporting in our egg this afternoon pulled up the passenger-side rear sunshade and hooked it on the clips at the top. Then apparently he just rested his arm on the ledge and they heard some sort of "pop" noise. Then, when he unhooked the sun shade to retract it back into the door it wouldn't pull back and retract so it's stuck in the "open" position. I'm guessing it's a simple matter of popping off the door skin and resetting something that's popped/snapped off.

OK, this happened again. Driving along, try to change from drive to sport, gear lever button (silver on side of gear lever) remains in the depressed position. Can't get our of Drive or Neutral. If you switch the car off it will never start again!! I call McDonald Automotive in Denver and then drive all the way from Breckenridge with the car stuck in Drive making sure I would never get into a position where I would have to reverse. Also the key is locked into the ignition. McDonald has a loaner waiting for me. However, this seems like it could potentially be a dangerous flaw in the gear lever mechanism. It is very unnerving, almost like you cannot stop the car under certain circumstances (even though you can put your brakes on and stop and you can put it in Neutral, but you cannot switch the car off).

is there any way to bypass this while the car is in motion. if a passenger wants to change routes or wants to dial, its annoying that i have to stop the car.

I have quick question that probably has an equally quick answer. When I press up on one end of the sunroof control dial, it makes a click. I can only push it up when the dial is in the 'roof closed' position. I've read somewhere that this 'button' should do something, but when I press it nothing happens. Do pushing up the sunroof control dial is supposed to do anything?

I have a 1984 XJ6 and while driving the RPM dial will go wild and then the car dies. It starts up again no problem. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this. The car has a new transmission and I just replaced the starter... What could be causing the problem?

In the last couple weeks, once the car starts moving the Speed Dial button dims. Does this also on our 2013 RX350. I've had the car for a year and I can't believe that its been this way the entire time. I'm so certain it recently started. I had to revert to clicking the Call History button sometimes.
I feel it either corresponds to update to iPhone IOS 8 or iPhone 6. If that is the trigger, I'm surprised the Speed Dial is not controlled by the car vs the phone.
I was at Lexus service yesterday and they think its working as expected. Why would one not be able to click Speed Dial, but be able to click Call History and then taking eyes off the road to look at the screen and scroll to find a number!!!
One of the lexus folks was in the car and paired his phone that was an older iPhone and was not OS8.

I got a 2009 Corolla LE and I am wondering if the a/c dial lights up with the dash lights? Its been a while since I've been inside the car but I have this feeling that the dial used to light up. The dial has an on/off push button to activate the ac. That ac button does light up when depressed, the rest of it does not. if the dial does indeed light up, how would one fix this? is there a fuse or something just for the dial?

When ever I turn my vent air on or change the temperature dial in my golf (non-climate control) the A/C turns on. If I just have the heater on and its too warm and I turn the dial from red toward blue the A/C will turn it self on. If I keep the heat the same and turn the fan from 1 to 2 the A/c will turn itself on. (At least the A/C signal lights up yellow.)
Is this normal for the golf or is something screwy? maybe it needs the ac to dehumidify or something but it is tough to constantly manually turn off the a/c. And btw If I hit the "off" button, the a/c will turn off, but then turn itself back on if i do any thing else.

Over the last several weeks my car (2010 Hyundai Accent, 60k miles) started randomly stalling on me. I took it to my mechanic earlier this week and all 4 ignition coils were replaced. Yesterday I accidentally left my headlights on for about 2.5 hours and the car was completely dead. I got it jumped and drove it around for about 35 minutes. I had the battery tested at Autozone and they said it is good. Then last night it stalled in the McDonald's line - I was able to restart it and get home but this morning it is completely dead again. Also twice yesterday after starting up the car the rpm dial wasn't moving at all. The car was accelerating just fine but the rpm dial did not reflect this. Of the several times I drove it yesterday it only did this twice. Someone told me to bring the battery to Autozone to get it fully charged, but does that explain the rpm dial not moving?

In my 2004 Camry the lights for the gear shift selector and fan speed and temperature dial are out. Is this a common light source or fuse that controls these lights?
