Touareg :: 2004 - Noise Under The Bottom At Very Low Speeds
Aug 2, 2004
I purchased my 2004 Blue-silver V6 Touareg last week. So far all is well. Except for one major problem. I keep hearing a noise under the bottom when I am at very low speeds. It has an axle-grinding sound to it. Here is my problem -- it comes and goes. I took it back to the dealership and they heard nothing. I drove it for a day later and heard nothing. But once again the noise came back --- last night and this morning. Keep in mind -- I am not using the sportshift or offroading drives--I'm just driving on the interstate and as I exit off an come to a slow stop -- "I hear this weird axle noise under the bottom".

Experienced a wind noise that is very irritating at above 40mph?I am by no means being nit picky about either,it's very loud. The sound is best described as wind whistle. The frustrating part is that it is hard to pin-point and a search here turned up ....

What this might be. I have a rattle type noise coming from behind the glovebox. It is only there at low speeds and driving on poorly paved roads. It is definitely not in the glovebox. It has been driving me crazy for some time now...

I just started getting this thumping sound, at very slow speeds from the bottom front end. What this could be. It sounds like it might be coming from the suspension or steering.

I have a 04 v6 model , in the last couple of months when I am on the interstate at about 75-80 mph. I get a very loud vibrating noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer thinks the drive shaft has some play in it.

OK here's a new one (for me anyway). My Reg started to produce a squeaking noise from the chassis. I can't tell exactly where its coming from (yet) but it seems to occur mostly at slow speeds. I can reproduce the noise by driving over a speed bump or making a slow speed turn. I suspect an exhaust hanger as it seems to happen front and rear. I cannot reproduce it by bouncing on the corners of car though.

I have an 06 Touareg V8 with AWD, auto tranny. No leveling suspension. And when I drive it specially while my foot is on the gas at cruising speeds there's a grinding noise coming from under the car. When I step off the gas it is gone or when I am accelerating hard I can't hear it. What could it be? It's driving me and my ocd insane!! I think it is drivetrain related (differential, wheel bearing, etc.) but not the transmission as I can still hear it while coasting in neutral.

2007 Touareg with 19",V6, with 10,700 miles
Problem: Noise or rattle in engine compartment, at low speed (less than 25miles/hour) on uneven pavement (not potholes). Can be replicated over and over.
The dealer acknowledge the noise and has tightened all suspension parts, greased all joints, replace front-right shock and bushings (for some reason the noise is more prevalent on Right side), put some sort of tool with sensors in different areas of the chassis to "hear" noise differences while driving to determine the culprit.
Description: To me, the noise sounds like there is something lose in either the engine compartment or the area where the wipers are located. Sort of like if there was something (plastic maybe) hitting the chassis (only at slow speeds - I cannot hear it when driving faster I guess because of engine and road noise). I have not been able to figure it out.
The noise was present only on another 2007 with 8K miles.

Those of you w/the "sport exhaust" on later 04's and 05's, at 80- MPH ... I get an engine exhaust resonance that varies with throttle. On throttle bad whine, off throttle no issue. Go 75 it's ok. Go 85 it's ok. My dealer hasn't heard of this. Not sure what can be done but on a long trip the drone will drive you nuts.

When checking the oil (dipstick) the other day, I smelled a "different" smell . . . so I turned the oil cap and saw GREEN oil on the bottom of the cap. I've used (use) ULSD/B5 in this TDI .

I have a 2005 T-reg V8 and it has been running great. (This is my second treg had a 04 that VW baught back from me.) On Saturday I went in for my 5K service and was called to the service bay to be shown a bottom cover that was filled with oil.
The crank seal was to be sent to the dealership, however, the tool to repair it will not be here for a week. VW said my car did not loose too much oil, so there should not be any serious damage.

So it looks like my truck has a new issue. I thought I had picked up some white paint from the road, and somehow kicked it up onto the black underside of my driver's door. When I looked closer to see how I could clean it up, I realized it is actually the black coating peeling off of the white paint. What I have is exposed white body paint in a stripe on the bottom of my door. I checked it a little more closely, and there are several other areas on the door where this is starting to happen as well.

I noticed the bottom dark grey trim on the front passenger door is sticking out. Looks like the panel/trim is prying away from the door.

In the 2007 Touareg V6 Automatic, directly at the bottom of the shifter pole, under the middle counsel plastic there is a black piece of plastic that recoils and unfolds as you shift gears what is that and where can I find that little piece of plastic

Any spec sheet for installing the doors or aligning them. I have been having a problem with the driver's door not sitting properly at the bottom left corner along the A pillar. This causes the first part of the triple seal system [the Touareg has] to be compromised, thus letting in water if submerged.

I have an 04 celica gt with around 168 k miles on it. Recently I have noticed a distinct metal on metal rattling noise whenever I accelerate at low speeds. It seems to be my exhaust as when I rev it up in park it makes the noise. But it doesn't ever make the noise when I'm on the expressway or cruising at back roads speeds. When I got under and looked at my exhaust everything looked normal?

Thought it was another AC flap that is playing up but it was the small plastic flap next to the tyre that was giving me the headache.
Still, could not find the rattle at the rear which i think is caused by the underfloor storage compartments. Thats for another day.

I have a 2007 Prius (now has 220K + miles) I bought used about 2 years ago with 150K miles. I finally got used to the car sounds so this is something new, or rather it's becoming louder and enough for me to question it. The car is still quiet at low speeds but this sounds like something related to how fast the car is rolling, not the engine acceleration. It doesn't sound like it's coming from the wheels. It's a low roar like sound, not high pitched and it sounds like it's coming from under the middle to front of the car as if related to perhaps the drive train. If I am up to 40-50 mph and just rolling (foot off the gas) down a long hill, the sound is there. It gets louder the faster I go. Could it be a transmission sound? I've always had manuals so this is my first automatic transmission car.

When stopping my 2004 VW GTI 1.8T at a low speed the brakes (sounds like from the front) make a strange noise from the front. The best way to describe the noise would like when you would put cardboard or the like in your bicycle tires as a child and make that whirring noise. I have checked the brake pads, rotors and the like and cannot find any evidence of grinding or anything of the sort. It only happens at low stopping speeds and not at harsher stops. There seems to be no evidence of problems stopping or anything like that, just an aggravating noise that will not go away! What it could be because I am completely lost on this topic and have checked all the basics (pads, calipers and rotors) for wear/tear and just did my brakes about 5 months ago with no noted issues at that point with everything broken down.

2004 Honda CRV just over 100k miles.
Brakes are now about 8 months old (less than 1k miles/month). Tires are also about that old.
Other new stuff (done by dealer about 4 months ago) includes: ball joints, wheel bearings, control arm.
I had to take it to a mechanic (not a Honda-only mechanic) to get a safety inspection in order to register it in the new place I'm living and he said "Everything looks new!" I had asked him to look specially at the brakes due to the noise described below. He said they seemed fine.
The issue I've been having is as follows: when the car is hot, i.e. after driving 100+ miles , and when traveling at very low speeds, the brakes make a sort of groaning sound. I recently made a 400-mile 1-day trip; no noise when exiting, pulling up to the gas pump, etc. But as soon as I got into the city where I was going, and did a lot of stopping and starting, I would get a noticeable groan coming to lights, stop signs, etc. No noticeable change in brake function. When I just get in the car to make a quick trip after it's been sitting for a day, or a few hours, I do not get this noise.
So, honestly, I'm not worried about safety, just very puzzled. The noise is definitely a recent occurrence--starting about 5 months ago. I would love to have it fixed, but would prefer to be able to direct a mechanic's attention to something specific rather than giving carte blanche to take apart the front end again!

First, details about my truck. 2007 F150 SuperCrew, 2wd, 5.4, 203,xxx miles on it, leveled with Hell Bent Steel 2.5" kit last year, has been aligned professionally since then, tires are good and balanced.
The issue I have is a vibration, kind of the same feeling when driving on a road surface that has had the top level of asphalt removed before it's resurfaced. It's mostly noticable at highway speeds. Its not a violent type vibration, but you can feel it. There is also a sound, similar to tires with a deep off road type tread.
The sound and vibration more noticeable when making lane changes or when wheel turned towards left, at highway speeds, not as much to the right. I've checked front wheel bearings, they are good, zero play, no loose suspension parts, u-joints are good, no leaks anywhere.
Since it makes the noise and vibration a bit more when moving wheel, could it be a power steering pump? The pump is the original.
