Touareg :: 2004 - Headlight Lenses More Frosted And Pitted?
Oct 1, 2008
2004 v8 55k... For the last year or so both headlight lenses have become more frosted and pitted... have noticed over a period of time that his has substantially dimmed my lights at night.. and that is something with those lights... anyway the local dealer felt they could polish them to like new... they have done this in the past... but after putting in the time we had so so results and they were concerned that if they kept on going at it they would really damage the lenses... I guess my question is... can one replace the lenses without replacing the entire headlamp assembly... I know vw cannot but is there an after market replacement or source for these.

Just wondering what are the different ways people are going about fixing the chips in the lenses? Mine are getting pretty bad and I was looking into fixing it myself.
Well took peoples advice for what worked and did up the headlights today. I think I didn't do enough sanding so I might do them again in the near future. They look better though I think. I took a few pics as I went for others to see and here they are
What they looked like when I started
The car
After sanding with the 600 grit
after sanding with 2000 grit
and end result
You might not be able to see the change very well but you can in person. A little more sanding next time and I think I will be good. Now time for a few

I have a 2005 V8 with Xenons. I noticed today whilst cleaning my Touareg the headlights have loads of tiny cracks in the lenses. I live in Houston TX, so it's probably caused by the heat.

My 04 Toureag has one headlight (low beam) that flickers on and off. I can shut the door and it will flicker on. This happens both for daytime running lights as well as regular headlights. It also at times registers on the dash that a light is burnt out. Yet all the lights are on and working.

Just got a Touareg 04 v6 it got something that im not quite shore of. The foot light stay on when i turn the headlight is that normal. IF it is how can i just make them turn on by opening the door. Also when i turn the car on the a/c turn on sometime, the last question is the engine fan would stay on in high speed. I change the water temp sensor on the back of the engine block and still the same problem. My friend it telling me that we my have to change the fan assembly becouse the fan comp it might be bad.

I have a a 2005 Camry LE.
Just purchased new OEM front head light lenses.
Looking into lighting options.
If I go with stock bulbs I would like to use watt bulbs on high beams.
What are the highest watt bulbs I can out in without damaging lenses or wiring?
I think it is easy to upgrade wiring harness if needed.

I need o pull the headlight switch on my T-Reg. Pushed in and turned to the left and pulled but it won't come out. Is this the correct method?

I can see where there is a 1/4 inch post that if turned will push the assembly out, but i can only get it to come out about 1 inch. Is there something else that has to be released ?

I was just wondering if there was a write up on how to swap out the headlight bulbs.

I made the mistake of removing the driver's headlight unit to replace the running/turn bulb while the lights were on. Now NOTHING in it will turn on, not the xenon light, the cornering light or either the running/turn. VAG shows the errors like they are all out (open).
I have reset the errors in both cent. elec. and xenon range, I have shut down and locked the truck and let it sit before restarting it. Only thing left to do is pull batteries (V10 has two) but that seems extreme!

I don't use them much. Might not have used them since the truck was vag'd, they don't work,...fuse? Washer fluid low disables them )I don't know if it does, but I had a car that wouldn't let the headlamp washers run if the fluid was low).

What would cause this problem?

1. What is the procedure in doing a basic setting for the xenon headlights ('04), what group (i.e. 001, 002 etc.)
2. How come I cannot delete/erase the DTC or error code (Headlight is not adjusted/MIL on, no basic setting.

I found that my headlight has a tendency to flicker, it happens more when I'm accelerating. This morning I had a "check headlights" in the information column right after start-up. Took it to the dealership. Nothing was found, no stored codes?

My passenger headlight intermittently goes out then goes back on. Usually when I accelerate. I have had them replace the entire headlight under warranty but to no avail. Is this just a connection problem or is there a TSB for it?

Lately every time I get into my 2004 V8 I get the warning check headlight range control. How to fix this or does this require a visit to the dealer?

As the subject states, I got the MFT message: 'CHECK HEADLIGHT RANGE CONTROL'
Battery gauge = 14 solid
All other guages normal

Received the MFI message "Check headlight range control"?
I have a 2004 V8 and the automatic leveling feature seems to be working correctly. If I stand in front of the vehicle, it appears that the headlights level themselves when the ignition is turned on.
I have noticed a couple times while driving at night that the headlights did not appear to be shinning down the road as far as they have been during other trips, so I'm thinking the problems could be related.
