When the stepper motor goes, does it fell like the all the diff's are locked up when you are turning?
This is happening to my 04 now with 75 000 km on her. What part do I tell the dealer to get in for me?
I have an '08 T2 and this issue may be unique to this new version of the Touareg. Here's the deal...
Let's say I am driving at 30 MPH on city streets. When I apply the brake, I "feel" what I would describe as periodic engine braking occurring simultaneously. I also experience this periodically in all sorts of driving situations when I am not accelerating. In other words, the truck doesn't always just coast freely. This "feeling" doesn't really slow the truck, it's just a feeling like some sort of resistance is taking place. I have also described it as a hum but it's only slightly audible.
I am in DRIVE with the A/C running . I have 800 miles now but it's been happening since I picked up the truck. Oh - no, the parking brake is not on and the differential is not locked.
When I took my truck in to have the CD changer installed, I tried to describe this to the tech. They ultimately said it is probably one or more of the various pumps. It was also suggested that it may be the A/C compressor but I haven't been able to determine that it truly the case.
I am becoming so frustrated with this that I am considering going to another VW dealer in a friend's car to test drive another T2 and see what it does. I need to figure out if this is just something a T2 does or mine is screwed up.
Again, there have been so many changes in the 2008 model so it may be unique to this new design. Unfortunately, they just came out so I don't know how many owners are out there yet.
for the past few weeks when turning corners the outer rear tyre is skipping as if the diff is locked. was thinking of taking it into the mechanincs and maybe replacing it, but now the problem has gone no skipping when turning. could this be an electrical problem mayb a sensor?
View 8 RepliesI have an 04' Touareg V8 that I have owned since new. It currently has 97k miles. It recently has developed a high pitched hum that seems to come on at 30mph+. The sound seems to come from the middle of the car. The car is at the dealer and I want to hear some unbiased post regarding this.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2008 RX 350 and I am experiencing issues with turning the key ignition and having the steering wheel locked. It gets locked and after several attempts at jimmying the key it eventually starts. My concern is that if I keep this practice up I will damage my key. I have addressed this issue to the dealership and I was naive and trusted them with fixing the problem with my last maintenance visit. Thinking the the problem was solved I started to experience the same problem again. I was first told that it is possible the my key chains are too heavy which could of caused the problem but I lightened the load and still have this problem. I've read about this problem with other people but there doesn't seem to be a solution.
One thing I have noticed is that I tend to experience this problem during the cold weather. During warmer weathers I don't have issues with the key ignition being locked but now that it's cold I am having the problem again (not sure if this has to do with anything). Do I need to change a part out to fix this? I've also read that there can be dirt in the ignition which needs to be cleaned out. Will this work and if so how do I do clean it?
I have an '04 V6 and everytime I turn the wheel to turn at low speed I get a sound and felling like the tires are skipping or scrubbing the ground. I have no weird wear or shakes and it tracks straight. What would cause this??
View 7 RepliesJust a quick question about the locking differential. I'm just wondering can you activate the locking diff while turning or on the gas pedal? Because today when I was climbing up an icy hill, I thought I'd turn on the locking diff,I was still on the gas when I pulled the switch. For a second I saw a warning on my dashboard, but quickly went away before I had a chance to read it. Just wondering in what conditions you can lock the diff. I also hear that you couldn't activate it while turning at a certain degree?
View 7 RepliesI know from what I've read that this tsb should have been addressed on my vehical (04 V8 early vin). The car has had two previous owners and the 2nd purchased as vw certified. I bought the Treg when it had been certified again 18 months later, so why does this "binding" due to the stepper motor software still exist after all tsb's have been performed
Its happened twice in three weeks now........when you shut down and start again everything is ok.
I have a 2004 V8 standard suspension Touareg and when I make a turn and turn the wheel all the way to either the right or the left the Touareg feels like the front wheels are skipping and I can feel a shuddering vibration from the steering wheel. I have the Pirellis on it.
I have 6,000 miles
Twice now while out messing around in the snow, I have noticed that the center differential low range selector button has popped up.
View 1 RepliesThis is what i have going on with my 2004 v-10 with 100k+ miles on it after a got a low coolant warning and I put some more of the red coolant fluid in it. I later checked it out and found that most all of the coolant connections including the ones on top of the block and manifold have this hard crusty red stuff on them...?

View 11 RepliesIt's Sunday afternoon and -20 degrees in northern Wisconsin. We are at the cabin after a nice weekend in the snow. I start the treg and the MFI has a yellow differential symbol. Displaying Status, the MFI says "System Fault" and "Workshop!" That doesn't sound good so I call 24 Hr assistance and they can send a tow truck 90 miles but that can't tell me what the warning means. Naturally, the Owner's lit says nothing about this warning.

I then started going around the corner, when the steering just locked up for no reason and the battery light came on. I then shut down the engine and restarted it, making everything ok. What happened?!?
View 4 RepliesI had the differential control module recall/flash performed last week and now the car makes a whining noise at speeds north of 35mph. The noise seems to emanate from the front of the car (near the radiator). The dealer was able to hear the sound -- and unable to diagnose the problem. They reflashed the stepper -- and the noise remained.
They moved the stepper motor, drove the car -- and the noise remained. Finally, they put the stepper back in -- reflashed it -- and then the noise went away. Subsequently, I drove the car noise-free for about 250 miles (over several days) -- and then the noise came back. I'm also having the same problem that others report about the tight-radius binding when turning (which the flash was supposed to solve).
questions:
1) any experience of whining noise after the flash recall
2) i see that some had the stepper motor replaced...what was the underlying reason?
3) it seems that the stepper is the problem -- but could it really be the differential that's not keeping the right ratios?
It happened once while I was driving around in low differential. The message read something like:
Drive More Slowly or shift to High Differential
I was only doing about 5mph when this happened and haven't been able to reproduce the error.
This is only the third unique error message my Touareg has shown me in its first 8 months of life. I wonder how many different error messages are programed into this car. (I bet there are many). I'm not being critical. I find it fascinating. I have never driven a car that was so in touch with its inner workings as this Touareg.
I have a 2008 Accent with 136,000 km on it. A few days ago I parked with the wheels slightly turned and the steering wheel totally locked, the key couldn't turn and the wheel couldn't be unlocked by pushing it either way. I called CAA and the driver had no luck but he tapped the key lightly with a wrench while it was in the ignition and it started. I took it to the mechanic yesterday and they had the same problems and called a locksmith who specializes in automotive locks.
They told me to take it to the dealership because they thought it was something further inside. Something was bugging me and I realized what it was. When the car was parked and the key wasn't in the ignition, as soon as I opened the driver side door the chimes went off. I closed the door, tried to lock it from outside with the remote but it wouldn't lock and the alarm wouldn't engage. I called my mechanic to tell him this and we all agreed that it seemed the car thought the key was in the ignition even though it wasn't.
I went to the dealership and left it and they called and said it was the ignition cylinder that needed replacing. Does this sound right?
My girlfriend has a 2014 Santa Fe Sport, and she usually leaves the headlights "on" because they turn off shortly after she locks her car or whatnot. For some reason, they don't ALWAYS turn off. Probably 30% of the time they stay on. Well, it was super cold this weekend and he car wouldn't start remotely, so we took mine instead. But lo and behold, her battery is completely dead.
Is there something that would cause these to stay on only sometimes? She's going to start turning on and off, but the intermittent part seems odd to me.
MY V8 Touareg with P+, Nav etc is in the shop today...My wife went to start it yesterday and the car completely went crazy...it would not start, the lights went crazy and finally the key was locked in the ignition....This is the second time this has happened...I'm getting pretty frustrated. Dealer was no support, they think we don't know how to start the car!
Anyway, looking into my State Lemon Law. Car is great, but don't want to spend $50K on a car that won't start and cause so many issues! Roadside has been called twice thus far. Tha car has 1,900 miles on it. The Tire gauge does not work, the memory seats don't work. I think the car is great, but too many issues.
My steering wheel locked up on me after i parked it it now says steering defective workshop..... I can't start it nor change gears it does nothing...the battery in the remote is fine what do i do?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2.5 years old V6 Touareg with 56k miles. I went out of town for 5 days........Come back and the car is dead: meaning nothing is working, no electrical, nothing. I had to use the physical key to open the door lock. I then tried to start it - nothing and the key got locked in the ignition.
My question is - what can this be? A battery? If yes, how do I replace it? Any other resolutions? This never happened before in 56k miles. Not quite sure what to think. Is there a way to jump this car?
