I have had my 2010 Tiguan SE for about a month now and I have noticed a sound when it shifts that sounds like a tinny grind or rattle. This happens mostly in "D" not "S" mode and at the lower RPMs. Is it normal?
I took it to my dealer and of course they said they heard nothing, but it doesn't seem like something a new car should sound like.
Third owner with about 81k, sometimes when I go to shift into sixth it seems like there is something stopping me about half way into normal position. Normally I have to go back to neutral and then try again. I don't have this issue with the other gears.
second question, I've noticed under deceleration mostly or going slow over bumps that I can hear a tin style rattle. Now the last couple days when I start the car with or without AC running there is a constant rattle making me think that whatever was rattling over bumps is about to make a run for it when I hit a big bump or something.
I got a awful tinny rattle sound that comes on sporadically around 3k RPM. It tends to only do it at through a small RPM range (2750 - 3250 rpm approx) and when pressing the throttle 1/2 way down or more (but not when less). This sound is exacerbated when I had the flapper mod which is a large contributor to why i went back to stock.
I am thinking the sound is caused by a heat shield, but without getting underneath and having a second person blipping the throttle, its hard to diagnose. Are these cars known for rattling heat shields? Is there a particularly troublesome shield that I should look at first ?
Starting somewhere in the course of a 400 mile drive yesterday, my car developed a new sound. It sounds like something is either vibrating against something else or some little chunk of plastic is bouncing around in the engine somewhere. At first I thought it was a piece of the bumper or trim dragging on the road, but it's not. You hear it when the car starts, when the car gets gas, and even when the engine is idling. It's not a constant sound, but it's there more often then it is not. It's there at high and low speeds. It's there whether the engine is warm or dead cold. To my untrained eye, there's nothing out of order when I look under the hood. It doesn't seem to impact performance (yet!).

2010 Toyota Matrix with 72k miles....
I have a weird rattle right before shifting (in certain gears) and when revving it between 4-6k. I had it checked out by a tranny guy and he said everything was fine. It was the same guy that rebuilt it after blowing through gears 2 and 3. So I checked the heat shield and its on there solid but I did notice something.
Now I'm no mechanic or anything so Im not even sure if this is right or not but it looks like there a thin cover over the side of my tranny held on by two bolts, the metal has snapped clear off the bolt on one side and I believe that is causing the rattle. Here is the picture (this may or not be the tranny, like i said, I am no mechanic and rarely do work on my engine or anything.)
That black bolt on the bottom is what holds it on, but the metal before the bolt is snapped off, Could that be my rattle?
04 F150 4.6 ltr Has a tinny rattle during acceleration . Sounds like 2 hammerheads in a washing machine....
View 2 RepliesTook my car to a shop today after I'd been experiencing a "tinny clunking" sounding rattle. I was worried it might be my catalytic converter and after couple of bumps on the exhaust system while on the lift, the tech thought this was indeed the case. Replacing the catalytic converter could be a $1500+ job from what I hear if replaced by toyota.
View 17 RepliesI have a 2010 SEL with auto transmission (obviously). When it changes gears both up and down shift there is a clicking noise. I don't remember hearing it before about a month ago, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.
View 5 RepliesSo I took delivery of my ordered PP GTI about three weeks ago, When driving under light throttle, when upshifting or downshifting amongst the first four gears, the car makes a whining/ humming noise from about 1700 to 2300RPM. I lifted the front end of the car to check things out and noticed that the left axle makes some weird sounds. I'm hoping it's a bad CV, issue with transmission (not clutch related)?

Example when I turn my car on and shift from Park to Reverse I hear a clicking noise and then when I go from Reverse to Drive it makes a clicking noise. Sometimes it just goes away. Is it a transmission issue or if this is a common sound.

View 3 Replies148,000 miles, and yesterday my R decided it would no longer allow me to use first gear. It sort of starts to go in gear, but feels kind of mushy, not positive, and if I let out the clutch, the gears grind, but will not engage. All other gears feel and perform normally.

View 3 RepliesI have 20th gti and I downshifted into third the other day and heard a small grind and all of the sudden I lost all my gears, I couldn't shift into anything and was stuck in third. I was able to move the shifter up and down from 3rd neut to fourth without engaging the clutch but it was all the same gear:S I managed to get home in third considering I was close by and when I stopped i was able to throw it into reverse but it would act like i was in a high gear(either 4th 5th or 6th I am not sure).
View 4 RepliesHas rattle that sounds like it is coming from the centre of the dash? It sounds like a piece of tin sheet metal is rattling faintly. I wouldn't think a fuel line rattle would sounds like that, but maybe I am incorrect? Putting pressure on the dash with your hand doesn't seem to make it stop.
We also get the creek in the l/h side that I had assumed prior that it was from the door seal when the body flexes.
I have a 96 2.3L 5 speed Ranger. The clutch has been getting softer and softer until about two weeks ago when I couldn't drive it anymore because gears would grind like crazy when I shifted, especially 1st and 2nd. I had no time and just drove my other truck but now I've had a bit of time to look into it. I went to bleed the clutch and then realized there was no fluid in there. So I tried to put fluid in but nothing happened. The clutch is still extremely soft. The truck won't even start when I have it in gear, it turns over and kind of lurches forward, even with the clutch pushed all the way in. It starts right up in neutral. So my guess is I have to do what I really don't want to... replace the clutch!!
Is it possible that since I just put more fluid in the clutch it may take awhile for that fluid to get into the cylinder and I have to bleed it again?
I have a 2003 Jetta Gli , 24v vr6 with a 6 speed transmission.
Well this all started last night, started to drive, when accelerating , around 3k RPM I start to hear a rattle or grind. This only happens around 3k while accelerating. Once letting off the gas or pushing the clutch in, it goes away. Sometimes after 3k it'll go away.
So this is my first 4wd vehicle. I read that to put vehicle in 4wd when the car is running, put the car in neutral and shift the 4wd stick to H or L depending on the driving condition. When I do that, it grinds a little before slipping into the mode. Is this normal? Am I shifting it into 4wd incorrectly? Also, when doing normal road driving on pavement (no rain or snow), should the car be kept in H or N on the 4wd stick?
View 10 RepliesI purchased my car almost two years ago. I drive a lot for work, and my car now has 74000 kilometers on it.
So far its gone thru 3 CV Axle Joints on the drivers side, a radio unit, clutch bearing, fork, and fulcrum, and now there's something wore out in the rear suspension (squeaking and snapping).
The transmission in mine has also started to grind when shifting like the syncros are wearing out. Motor knocks when it's cold, sounds like the top end goes dry of oil when sitting overnight and takes awhile to get any.
I have a 1986 Ford Bronco straight six 300 4 speed manual NP 435
She grinded a bit when shifting from a stand still but nothing terrible for an old rig but leaked oil bad from the rear main seal so I took out the tranny/t case to put in new clutch, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and rear main seal. When I put it all back together shifting into 1st would grind like CRAZY. So would reverse but not near as bad. So I took it all back apart inspected everything even torqued the clutch to specification. Put it back together and same result. So I replaced the slave/master cylinder thinking the clutch wasn't pushing enough bench bled it and still no luck.
I'm up to 102k on my 2007 Azera Ltd. In the last two weeks I started getting a grinding/rattle type noise when I turn my AC/Fan up to the higher levels. When it's on low/mid you can't hear anything. Does this mean the compressor is starting to go or is this something else going on?
