I have had my Tiguan S for almost 2 years and it seems that I keep having to get it towed. I just had it to today because the serpentine belt came off when I was driving. After I bought it the fuel line was loose and it had to get put back on and after about 12000 miles my tranny went out and had to get replaced.
View 2 RepliesI had my timing chain tensioner replaced. When they do this do they touch the serpentine belt tensioner? 1000 miles after the timing replaced, my serpentine belt shredded and they say I need a new serpentine belt tensioner. Does this sound correct?

First things that came too mind were tensioner or worn out belt. Hard to believe the belt would be worn out though as it only has 65k miles.

I can't figure out how to route the belt around the tensioner pulley, circled in the picture (from another thread). Everyone glosses over how to do this and I can't figure it out.
It seems like the only way to get it on is to bend the belt and slide it between the pulley and the block, but that I just can't reach the blasted thing.
I am very concerned regarding how often my serpentine belt needs to be replaced. First time it was replaced at 104k, second time dealer replaced it at 126k, third time at 153k. Today I went for oil change (173k) and the dealer told me that it has little cracks and recommend replacing it. Is it normal? Could it be something else is affecting it?
View 11 RepliesI have troubles with what I thought would be a basic job: removing the belt on my 2004 Solara so that I can remove the alternator. I can't get the belt loose enough to slide it off, no matter how hard I try.
The wrench I'm using is about 12" long, I'm a big guy and I've done powerlifting in the past, meaning I can apply lots of strength on that wrench. I've just watched a youtube video of a guy with the same engine removing his belt, and he exerted a lot less effort for a lot more wrench travel. I thought that using a breaker bar is extreme.
Pulled off front bumper today with no success, seems like the whole radiator and a/c unit must be removed?
View 5 RepliesSo the PO of my Jetta had the alternator replaced...awesome! One less job for me to do. My serpentine belt went out yesterday so I chalked it up to being old. When I got the new belt on it kept slipping off, I pulled the tensioner pulley off and saw that the wheel was all chewed up, I look down and saw that whoever put in the alternator didn't bother to screw in the bolt all the way and it chewed up the belt and everything else.

I have a 2005 Prius with 86,000 miles. All of these issues started about 2 months ago, the day after an oil change.
Serpentine belt break? My 2005 Prius has 132,000 miles on the original belt, so I thought it's probably due for replacement. I went to an independent garage to get an estimate ($80). But the owner said that he has never heard of one actually breaking. He said that they are reinforced with fiberglass, so they just don't break. He recommended that I look for missing chunks and listen for squealing.
View 2 RepliesI looked through the MKIV DIY stuff but didn't see one. My serp belt is in need of replacing soon. Seeing some cracking on it for sure. According to records from the PO it was bought as part of the timing belt kit at the end of '09 so I imagine it was changed then...just didn't think it would be so cracked so fast!
Anyway, looking to replace it in the coming weeks. If I could be pointed in the right direction that would be awesome. I do have a Bentley, but I find how-to's on here to often be better. But if I need to just follow the Bentley, I can do that too.
I've been hearing a slight squeaking near the belt area. It's not continuous. Does it for a second then stops for a second and continues.
I hear it a lot more when I put the heat on through the top window (defroster). Never noticed it until it started getting cold. You think it might just be the belt? Or what?

View 1 RepliesSo this car has only 50k miles. It was really cold in the sierra (around 20F) and the car started making a squeaking sound. I assumed it was just belt warming up, but when I opened the hood later, I saw shredded plastic. No CEL's! Seems to run smooth.
Where this came from? Is it part of the serpentine belt system?
I have changed belts on other cars just never a Lexs. how hard is it to do on or trucks?
View 7 RepliesI've replaced the water pump on my Touareg 2009 TDI at 112,000 miles and am trying to fit a new serpentine belt at the same time. I'm stuck because two sensors and their wires are inside the circle of the belt and I seem to have to disconnect the sensors to remove the old belt and fit the new one - this isn't shown is any of the diagrams I have from website and I am wary of just pulling and twisting to disconnect them. I've posted two pics of the sensors - I think one of them is a crankshaft location sensor. How to disconnect them or with fitting the serpentine belt in general would be great. I love my Touareg TDI (bought from new in 2009) and have just started servicing it on my own - I'd like to drive it 300k miles.
View 1 RepliesToday I had my 2004 1.8T Passat in the shop for a few minor things. The car has only 89,000 KM's (NOT MILES~ I live in Canada) on it. They told me that my serpentine belt was needing to be replaced (which I knew) and they recommended that I to my timing belt at the same time. They told me that you can buy a kit that has the timing belt, tensioner and water pump in it. Anywhere I have read it has said to change your timing belt at 120,000 KMs.
View 2 RepliesI have a 1991 Dodge Dynasty with a 3.3 Liter engine & the serpentine belt keeps coming off. I have replaced the belt,idler pulley & belt tensioner. When the road is wet or winter slush (it happened once in dry hot weather) the belt will ride off.
