View 5 RepliesMy read brakes have been grinding. I bought new pads to replace them. After pulling the drums I noticed that they were hardly worn. 50,000 miles on the car. They was a bunch of brakes dust in them. Cleaned the dust out and put the drums back on. It was quiet for about 3 weeks, now the grinding is back.
View 3 Repliesi wrench on kids car. have done all 4 brakes in last 5 yrs. kid said front brakes were noisy. 06/01. 1 pad was worn thru to backing plate. messed up rotor. i decided to replace both rotors since cost was minimal. piston in caliper was stiff. decided to change caliper 1 week later. yesterday kid said rear brakes were noisy. rear discs. 1 pad was down to metal. replaced pads. rotor looks rough. other rotor is ok. need to get 1 new rotor. should i change both? pistons in calipers pushed in easy. feel smooth. caliper pins look fine.
View 11 RepliesI've had this "rattle" when going over uneven roads for about the past few months and I think I narrowed it down to the rear calipers. They are both tight, but it seems as though the "floating" ability of the caliper is loose.....does that make any sense? I mean you can grab the caliper and it'll make a rattling noise, but the bolts are tight..
View 5 RepliesWhen I hit the brakes from a higher speed, say 40 mph+, they make a noise. It's the type of noise I would expect to hear along with a shudder, almost like ABS kicking in. It's just the noise though. No shudder, the brakes feel fine, no lights on the dash, nothing. It's a 2011 CPO with 31K miles.
View 2 RepliesI recently bought a new 2016 r line, coming out of a 2013 gti 6 speed manual. This is my first suv ever and my first automatic trans in about 10 years, so needless to say it has been somewhat of an adjustment.
I love the drive of the Tiguan, but I was curious where people typically see their rpms shift at. I noticed that while driving on the highway, to accelerate with traffic it likes to shift at about 3000 rpm initially and then dropping, city/around town in around 2500. I wanted to make sure this rpm doesn't seem too high or low for this car.
Secondly, I did read some on this issue, but is everyone else's Tiguan somewhat loud when accelerating? My gti had the same engine and seemed a little quieter.it sounds almost like a Diesel engine inside the cabin, but not as loud as one would be. My wife drives a cx5 with 184 HP and hers is a decent amount quieter. Noticed the engine being a little noisy?
I am getting a lot of noise from the clutch and brakes on my 2008 accent.
First the clutch: the noise is coming from the clutch release cylinder under the hood, at the front of the engine bay. I've tried lubing the cylinder, but it didn't work. Is there something else I can try, or do I need to replace the release cylinder to get back to a quiet clutch? Would a rebuild work? Is it even possible to get a kit to rebuild a clutch release cylinder?
I checked the hmaservice website, but the troubleshooting didn't have any mention of the clutch noise. I've seen plenty of references online to people having similar problems, but I haven't found any specific solutions (besides the standard "take it in and get it fixed" response). I'd love to take care of this problem without going to a garage.
That's been going on for a while, but the brake noise is new. It's a squeak noise that happens only as I release the brakes when the car is standing still. It's fairly quiet now, but I want to make sure that it's not going to lead into a bigger problem down the road.
I've done plenty of disc brakes in the past, but I've never worked on drums before. I'm not even sure if the noise is coming from one brake or all four. My best guess is that it might be the caliper pins that need to be lubed, but that's a complete shot in the dark guess...
What should I be looking for when I try to diagnose and solve this annoying noise. Is it something typical that happens with drums?
Bought a '13 RX 350 CPO from Rohrich Lexus in Pittsburgh. It has 16,800 miles on it. It's the wife's daily driver. She tells me the brakes are making noise today. I drive it...sure enough sounds like metal on metal coming from the left front. Like the pads are worn and they are scraping the rotor. No pulsation through the pedal though.
I used a pressure washer to make sure there is no brake dust build up or debris between the pads & rotor. The rotors look ok, no pitting or scoring. At 17K the pads CAN'T be worn already?! I'll jack it up tomorrow and take the wheel off for a better inspection.
I have a 1997 F150, 4X4. My mechanic says its time for new brakes and was curious if it would be worth possibly converting from drum brakes to disc brakes??
My mechanic has quoted me $300 to do the rear brakes, would it be worth the extra money to convert??? I really don't care for drum brakes. I have done a search on the internet and every time it brings up the issue with the parking brake.
Back in April when I was getting my car inspected the mechanic told me I needed new rear brake pads. I knew I did so I let him change them.
Now I get noisy brake pads this moaning sound out of them when I apply the brakes while I'm backing out of a parking spot or my driveway. I've only driven about 5 or 6 hundred miles since then.
Any troubleshooting tips on determining where the noise is coming from at the rear of the car? There is a pretty audible hum at 55 mph coming from the rear of the car and I am not sure if its the balancer or the diff. I'm reading horror stories of improperly serviced rear diffs causing the diff to fail and starting to freak out.
View 10 RepliesIn my 6 day old Golf TSI, I'm noticing the rearview camera is quite noisy when it deploys and retracts. I don't recall how it sounded during test drives, but I'm surprised I can hear it at all, let alone as loudly as it seems.
Likely normal, but thought I'd post this up to see what others are experiencing. Might drop by the dealership and check another one out for comparison.
Any tips for keep rear tire wear to a minimum? Mine are starting to cup along the inner edge and are very noisy at 20, and 40 mph. 20mph is worse even in the front end.
View 7 RepliesI have a bothersome bottoming out type of noise coming from near my empty trunk or underneath the trunk area. I have the 17" stock rims with stock mich. tires. I had VW check for the rubber rear shock absorber plate which I do have. I Have the rear tire secured as well as the battery. I have insulated the hard foam tool storage kit so it will not bounce going over irregular surfaces. Yet I still get this sound like a loose bar hitting against the underneath on less than perfect roads.
View 5 RepliesI have an '86 Aerostar with a noisy rear end. I've had it checked by both my mechanic, and a transmission shop, and they both say it's the differential, not the wheel bearings. The quote to rebuild is expensive, so I'm looking for a replacement. My question is: What years will interchange with my 2.3, 5-speed '86 Aerostar?
View 2 RepliesExperienced rattling rear seat? Basically every shift and bump the rear drivers side back seat makes a very annoying rattling sound. It seems to be coming from where it latches on. I was thinking of taping the metal hook thicker so it would be tighter on. What to do to rectify it?
View 10 RepliesHad the Buick dealer perform a flush on the rear diff with a speical lubricant to refill and it worked for awile. There only recommdation was to replace the rear, which is cost prohibitve. This noise is a whing/moaning noise when turning sharp, like into driveways, streets and parking places, only when the weather and vehicle are warm. Doesnt' seem to effect any operation, the noise has not gotton louder. Any fixes known? I may start looking for a used rear asm, but I don't want to get the same problem, as Ive heard this is common for GMs AWD systems.
View 1 Replies1998 4X4. My rear suspension is so loud and noisy it's driving me crazy. I've soaked the thing many times with wd40 but it doesnt seem to work or work not more than a day or two.
I've tried to make a pic with my phone because I think at the rear side of the leafs they are separating way too much... I've got no more than about 150lbs and a LPG-tank on my bed...
Moreover I think my truck rides bad. I know it's no Cadillac and I'm running 33s and its a 4x4 BUT I've got quite new Rancho shocks and the whole front suspension is in good shape and it got an alignment a month ago...
So what do you think, after 181.000mls time to get new rear leafs or take the old ones apart, free them from the rust, paint & grease them and put them back together?
This is normal, right?
View 9 RepliesExperiencing this sound after driving the car for the first time in 5 months. It was parked outdoors in NJ weather since December with the handbreak off. I thought I experienced this sound last year as well, but only after not driving it for 3 weeks with handbreak on. I hear the sound everytime I step on the breaks. I think the last time, the sound went away after driving/stepping on the breaks after a short drive. Is this normal?
