I have just over 10K on my tig and about 1000 miles ago i noticed a rattle pop up. sounds like its coming from the divers side in the engine bay, thinking maybe battery cover? Before I've found the battery cover not clamped down all the way and heard a similar rattle, now the battery cover is snapped tight but I still hear a rattle?

I can't really explain what it is, but it sounds like it is coming from the the rear driver's side and happens when I accelerated or turn. I know that isn't much of an explanation, but my car has been fine then just all of a sudden?
View 3 RepliesLast year my wife and I purchased a 2011 certified pre-owned tiguan from a local VW dealership which will stay anonymous atm. This past weekend we were driving home and noticed a rattle coming from the engine upon acceleration or around 2k-3k. The EPC light and check engine light both flash one time whenever this happens but never stay on. I scanned the car and found a pending p0341.
I know about the timing tensioner so I waited until the car cooled completely and went outside about 1am and started the car, sure enough it made the star-up rattle.
We took it back to the dealer and they diagnosed it with a failed timing chain and camshaft and are going to replace the components. I'm guessing by failed timing chain they mean the tensioner.
I have a rattle coming from my drivers door now that just started. It is quite annoying but I would rather fix it myself rather than bring it into the dealer.
View 20 RepliesI have a rattle coming from the drivers front area. I'm not 100% sure but I think it might go away in warm weather. I had a tech drive along with me once a few weeks ago, but we couldn't hear it that afternoon. Yesterday afternoon it warmed up to around 65ish and I couldn't hear it. I only hear it at slow speeds (5-10mph) and only when rolling over light bumps, anything moderate to heavy and it's not discernible.
This is my first try at recording it and I think it sounds a bit less squeaky more rattley in person. Maybe more like a lost screwdriver in the a body panel or engine bay or something Or a loose strut? Or a loose rotor? (doesn't seem possible) Or the short shifter bouncing? (I have a forge SS, and once I was poking around looking for something loose in the engine bay and I jiggled that and the sound seemed close, but I don't see how that would be it.

For over a month I was having a slight rattle coming from the driver's side.
Today I found that my door panel on one end is coming off. I can literally bend it and look inside
Not sure how to take the top half (where the wood trim is) off without breaking any remaining clips.
So I have finally solved the rattle that has been seemingly coming from my driver side dash speaker. I'm not exactly sure which of the 3 things I did fixed it, but it's fixed.
First, I removed the 2 10mm bolts securing the speaker and removed the wiring harness. I noticed that there are 2 metal clips that those bolts screw into and they are loose, so I took some electrical tape and just taped over them to keep them from rattling.
Next, I found the wire for the speaker has a plastic shroud around it that is very stiff and could make noise, so I wrapped that with electrical tape as well.
Finally, the thing that was most likely the cause of the rattle was a loose wiring harness attached to the firewall. If you reach into the speaker hole you will feel the harness just under the hole. Where the harness is attached to the firewall it was extremely loose. I simply took a paper towel and was able to wedge it behind the harness and the firewall which kept it from moving.
Now the driver side rattle is gone, but I've noticed another rattle somewhere else near the center/passenger side of the dash. Every time I fix one rattle I seem to find another. Maybe I'm being a little OCD about it.
I have been able to track down a rattle coming from the driver side rear door. The problem is that I don't know what to do to fix it (aside from taking the car to the dealership).
View 1 RepliesI noticed this rattle/whistle on one of the 2012 camrys we test drove and now I am hearing it on the one we purchased. when on the highway with the radio off or down low I hear the rattle/whistle. (almost like a jacket zipper rattle) It sounds like it is coming from near the top of the drivers door.

View 10 RepliesIn the last few months my car has been making this crazy medium-weight rattle sometimes, meaning it doesn't sound like something really light doing it and it doesn't sound like something heavy doing it either. Its "history" went like this:
Noticed this sound that really seemed to be coming from the driver-side front, in the wheel well area, checked it out. Nothing obvious. Had the front of the car on ramps a couple of times, poking, prodding, grabbing/shaking things. All is tight. Then had it on stands; same routine, same results. It got a bit worse over time, though it doesn't ALWAYS do it! Sometimes it's quiet forever (on 90-minute drive last week, nothing). This evening, out for 20 minutes, lotsa racket. So it comes and goes. Nothing under the hood seems amiss, either.
At first it seemed to only be present when moving, like something rubbing or dragging on a tire. Nope. Then it seemed to be related to engine speed, like some under-hood component checking out and starting to fuss. That seems not to be the case anymore, either. Now, I've been able to discern that it's something come loose and VIBRATING (I'm pretty sure -- it just sounds like that), but I don't know what yet. I now hear it at idle, sitting at a light (sometimes) and it's definitely worse on rougher pavement than on smoother pavement.
A while back I realized that it must not be coming from outside and under the car after all, because putting the window/s down results in not being able to hear it at all, rather than being able to hear it better. This is true even at 5 mph, rolling along on a quiet street entirely for diagnostic purposes.
Earlier this evening (during the 20-minute out n' about), I note that it's not coming from the driver side anymore; it's more like the whole front of the car. Really seems to be under the dash. When I first figured out that it's NOT outside/underneath, I took off the panel under that side (three Torx screws) and poked around. Didn't find anything obviously loose, etc. I've ruled out the glovebox, its door, and the center console, by holding on to each while rolling. The sound is not quite in the correct spot to be from any of these, either.
I'm having a squeak/rattle type sound coming from my front drivers side wheel (more rattle). It only happens when I go over a quick bump and happens going straight and while turning. 2012 f250. 87k miles. 4x4. I have a two inch block level (southern truck) up front..
View 14 RepliesSo I started my truck this morning and it sounds like air rushing out from the driver side of the engine. I currently have my ICP unplugged due to a bad sensor, will be replacing it on Sat. Also I have been having an issue with my turbo but I don't think that it's related as I here the air rushing sound when at idle as well at when driving. It seems to be a bit louder when the engine is cold but I could also be crazy about that.
View 3 RepliesMy wife's 2011 Gti (31k miles, dsg) has developed a bad rattle vibration at idle. It goes away when you press on the gas. At first first I thought it was just a bit of plastic rattling in the wheel well or engine bay, but now I'm suspecting the engine. It's coming from the drivers side and it sounds like the 'TSI rattle' turned up to 11. It's intermittent, but worse when it's cold.
Engine mount? Chain guides going going bad? I will try to get a video of the sound today.
Have any other 2013 Tiguan S owners with Auto Trans noticed that the engine runs very loud with the AC on?
Currently I have around 600 miles on the clock and when I turn the AC on, the engine sounds way louder.
On top of that, when I'm cruising at 15 mph with the AC on and I give the car some gas, the transmission stumbles a bit and sometimes I hear a single click noise.
Has rattle that sounds like it is coming from the centre of the dash? It sounds like a piece of tin sheet metal is rattling faintly. I wouldn't think a fuel line rattle would sounds like that, but maybe I am incorrect? Putting pressure on the dash with your hand doesn't seem to make it stop.
We also get the creek in the l/h side that I had assumed prior that it was from the door seal when the body flexes.
'02 V6 30v with 73k.. engine noise sounds like rattle consistent with idle sounds like its coming from rear section of motor. i did search came up with a few probabilities but no resolutions just wondering if possible it could be oil pump because if i add oil then start up the noise disappears for a few mins then comes back, a few guys mentioned it could be camshaft tensioner.

View 1 Replies2005 V8 TREG 74,000 miles ... Just last week.... My T-reg started to hear this knocking noise which seems to come from the engine on the driver side... I would say lifter sound but hoping that's not the issue. I do notice that when i start the car, no noise but when driven on the highway... I hear it especially when i come off the highway. On regular street drives, it takes a while for the noise to come up. I've had the Treg for about a year now and havent had any problems but this. I drive the car during the weekends and sometimes during the week.
View 2 RepliesI've had this weird noise coming from the driver side front (i'm guessing inside the engine bay) for the past month now. It started ever since hitting a bad pothole that wasn't avoidable and couldn't see very well during one of the nasty winter storms we got here in PA. Ever since the steering has felt off, like just not all there anymore. Over the smallest of bumps it makes this noise. Extremely aggravating for me since I try to take great care of the car and keep everything tight and new feeling. Since I don't know how to work on newer cars (only mk3 and lower) I have no clue what to do to check... I've had it at the dealership a few times to report the noise, 2 of the times they just took it for a drive around the area and back and each time the tech said he didn't hear a noise (of course).

Also recently noticed that only coming from the same side, the shock over big bumps makes squishy noises, as if it were blown or something...
People have suggested that it could be the sway bar, tie rods, end links, bushings, anything. I personally think it's the strut tower bushing or bearing, but again, I'm not much of a newer car mechanic.
