Tiguan :: Random Misfire On 2009 TSI / 2WD - Oil Leak

Jan 23, 2015

I have a 2009 TSI/2WD with 68k miles on it which we bought brand new. The car has been relatively trouble free for all these years and my wife loves the car.

Middle of the last December my wife calls me and tells me the "Check Engine" light came on while she was driving.I told her if there is no unusual noises or any warning lights blinking drive the car home and I'll take a look at it when I get home. She said everything looks normal and nothing unusual.

Long story short,I came home scanned it with VAG-COM,found random misfire codes and spotted the oil leak on the garage floor and saw where it was coming from.Yeah you guessed it right, it was the Crank Shaft seal.

I went ahead and replaced it with new one from the dealer and a new PCV breather too.Started the car after I finish No leak,No check engine and everything was fine.

Until two weeks ago again the check engine light came on.went ahead scanned again and this time it was P0300,P0302(RANDOM AND CYL.#2). There was no visible misfire that I could feel so I cleared the MIL.I also did swap the coils to make sure it wasn't coil related and again it stayed the same as before.Spark plugs have been replaced 3 months ago,so that's not it either.

After couple of days of my wife driving it,I noticed that the MIL always comes on when she starts the car after it was driven and the engine was hot or warmed up, so after a lot of searching and reading online forums,I came to conclusion that it must be the valves and it's"DE CARB" time.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Codes For Random Misfire And Small EVAP Leak Detected

Okay, so a few weeks ago, my tire blew out on the freeway. Of course my spare wasn't in there and when I got one I couldn't get the lugs loosened. My 4way was too big on all sides. It was late, I am a single mother of two young kids so I had no choice but to drive slowly to get it off the freeway. The next morning I came back fully prepared, got my car in to get a new tire. I have been driving with ONE code for my CEL, but at the shop (where I use to work) I used the scanner and it threw 5 codes.

P0300 Random misfire

P0442 Small EVAP leak detected (this one was already there)

P0420 Catalyst system below threshold bank 1

P0301 Misfire cyl 1

P0303 Misfire cyl 3

My beautiful love is an 02 Jetta 2.0 4 Cyl. Now, since 4 of these codes popped up AFTER my first blowout (I turn 30 next month, knock on wood)

Did driving my car at 5 mph about a mile and a half (everywhere up until the gas station was NO PARKING) do something to my car? All of a sudden, any in town driving ESP IDLING makes my check engine light blink and my car has no power I just have to pull over wherever I am. I checked the car out myself on the side of the road and my cat was glowing. After this I do not drive my car.

So, what should I do. I did a tune up. Should I replace the 02 sensors then the cat?

Tiguan :: 2009 - Cylinder Misfire After Coil Pack Swap?

I recently did a coil pack swap to determine if that was the cause for a cylinder 1 misfire. Left to right on my 2009 se tiguan, I changed 1 to 2, 2 to 1, 3 to 4 and 4 to 3. I recently ran into the cylinder misfire again, this time on cylinder 4. The problem is, I do not know which coil fires which cylinder. I've looked around quite a bit and can't seem to find it.

Tiguan :: 2009 - Water Leak In Passenger Footwell

I just picked up my 09 SEL tiguan yesterday, when I got home, I found that the passenger footwell was soaked with water (from the A/C). I pulled the plastic trim from the console side away and found the source: there is a tube with a rubber intake that the water is coming out of. It seems like that tube sucks air in when the A/C is on. No water is pooling under the car from the A/C being on. The water does not leak when the a/c isn't on. Is something stopped up? I'm going back to the dealer tomorrow, but i'd like to get it fixed now, as my carpet is soaked and I'm afraid might start to stink.

Tiguan :: Random Cylinder Misfires On All Cylinders With Rough Idle

I have 11 tiguan 2.0T. When I start it up is runs rough below 1200 rpm. The check engine light starts flashing. The codes are all 4 cylinders for random cylinder misfire. When I go drive it around the roughness calms down but doesn't go away and the idle will start jumping up and down. It goes to 1500 back to 800. Then 1700 back to 800. It had even hit 2400 once. I have changed the pcv about 2 months ago. I checked it and it looks fine. One place said maf. I cleaned it and no change. Running out of options.

Passat (B5) :: Random Misfire On Cylinders 3 And 4

Random multiple cylinder misfire according to auto scanner report on a 2002 Passat 1.8L? I have recently changed all belts including the timing toothed belt. I have had this very same problem prior to changing all belts on this car. Mileage is 111,000 ....

Passat (B5) :: CEL On - Random Misfire On All Cylinders

I went and looked at an 03 Passat 1.8T with 114k miles. I like the car and the price but the CEL is on, returning random misfire on each cylinder with a standard (non VW) scanner. There are no other codes. The car runs beautifully until it idles low with the car stopped or stopping; then you can feel it missing.

The coil packs and controller arms were recently replaced. The timing belt was replaced at 100k. The spark plugs and wires have not been replaced. I don't know whether the coil packs are stock or not, should I ask? The code can be cleared but then it comes back (I'm not sure how long it takes; I could ask).

I've collected this list of possible things to check, based on this useful previous post:

1. Oil overfill.
2. Downstream O2 sensor.
3. Spark plugs and cables.
4. Cam Shaft Adjuster? (maybe? there is no cam shaft code?)
5. Plugged fuel injectors?
6. Plugged catalytic converter.
7. Cam timing?
8. Induction cleaning?

Is this a good list? Are there possible troubleshooting steps not included here? Are some of these superfluous in my situation?

Golf/GTI VII :: Random Sputter / Misfire?

My car sits with 45,000 kms on the clock. Had it stock for the first 5k kms and then went stage 1 w/dp and intake. Have been beating the ever living piss out of this car since, and more so since stage 2 got revised again. At about 30k kms I started to develop a random sputter/misfire that was only really noticeable at idle, more so with a mount insert installed. Approaching my winter tire changeover and oil change I had planned to do this past weekend I ordered some maintenance stuff from ECS (filters, spark plugs, spare coil just in case). I had recently got a CEL with a "cylinder 2 misfire" code. I cleared it and it came back within a couple of days, again cylinder 2. Great, nice and easy..Sorta.

Picked up my parcel from the WA post office and installed the coil right there to see if it would go away. And...... NOT. Not worried at this point as I figured the plugs were just toast from so much hard driving for the past 40k kms. Got her into the shop last night and did my tire changeover, oil change, put the factory coil back in and changed the plugs. Here is what I found hiding in cylinder #2,

The car runs so smooth. It's like I found another 10hp lol. Definitely recommend changing up the plugs if tuned and putting kms or miles on the car. With the added power I'm guessing the life span drops off quickly.

Tiguan :: Intermittent And Totally Random Extended Cranks In 2013 SE 4 Motion

I bought this car in July 2013. In August I started noticing that randomly it would experience extended cranks to get started. It usually happens when the car has been off for a few hours. Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not.

I have taken the car to the dealership 5 times already. The first 4 times they said they found faults in the computer and that fuel pressure was dropping when the car was off and during the 4 visits, they changed out the fuel pumps on both high (did this twice) and low side. But the problem still exists. The 5th time they kept the car for a few days and drove and started at various times and they say everything checks out fine and it is behaving as normal.

Other than this, the car is fine. Lately, I notice that this happens about 1 -2 times a day depending on when the car is started. Typically I am experiencing this if the car is started after 3 - 6 hrs or more. Other times it starts fine.

When it starts fine, when I turn the key it sounds like cha-cha (or da-da) and starts. Sometimes is does cha-cha-cha-cha, and that seems normal because my other car (Sonata) takes no more than that. Other times it is either marginally worse like cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha.

or bad like cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha (eight cha-s). My 2011 Tiguan never had this. Dealership is telling me eight cha-s is 4 cranks and that is normal. Although it starts up about 2 seconds when it does eight cha-s, it just sounds too long and abnormal. I have never had a car start like this.

Again, this is intermittent and seems like I experience it once or twice a day depending on how many times I started after the car is sitting off for a few hrs.

Tiguan :: Running Rough During A Cold Start / Random Cylinder Misfires

I've got a 2009 Tiguan with 65k miles on it. A few weeks ago I noticed some issues with running rough during a cold start. I only noticed because the engine would vibrate considerably more than usually for the first few minutes of operation, and would idle at around 1050-1100rpm instead of the usual 750rpm. After warm up, things were fine. Suddenly the issue got bad real fast - wife was out and the MIL light came on, EPC light came on, and the car was running extremely rough. We managed to drive it home (2 miles) doing under 20 the whole time on side streets. Once I hooked it up to my OBD reader, I was seeing cylinder misfire codes on all four cylinders.. P0300, P0301..P0304, all five codes simultaneously.

Since the car was due for an oil change and hit 65k miles recently, I decided to throw new plugs in there to see if that would work. It did, at first.. A day or two it ran completely fine, no rough starts, no misfires, I thought I had solved the problem. The old plugs had some deposits on them and were original, so I thought I was in the clear. Two days later, same thing happened again.. EPC light, barely running and misfires on all four cylinders..

I read up some online and decided to order new ignition coils. Took a few days, but I got four new coils and threw them in. Again, problem solved it seemed. No more EPC light, misfire codes didn't come back and no more rough starts. I drove a good 40 miles with no problems at various speeds, but started noticing some misfires during acceleration (slightly rough acceleration, almost feels like a back and forth rocking motion, very slight). Sure enough, after a cold start I'm seeing the engine run a bit rough again with misfires. This time, only P0304 (misfire on cylinder 4) is thrown, and it only shows up as a "pending code" (engine light flashes for a few moments during start, but does not stay on).

I checked my connections, swapped the plugs and coils in what I thought were cylinders 3 and 4 (closer to the driver side), nothing. I swapped what I think are cylinder 1 and 2 (passenger side) just to be sure, but still nothing. At this point I'm pretty lost. I know enough to be dangerous with a carbureted engine, but am lacking in knowledge when it comes to a fuel injected turbo charged VW engine. It seems to be cylinder 4 misfiring consistently at this point according to the OBD reader.

Also of note.. I had some misfire problems last year, and had my intake manifold replaced as part of a recall (also had carbon deposits removed at the same time). Can a carbon build up occur this fast? Can it be the injectors?

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Random Misfire Code That Would Come And Go

We have been fighting a misfire code for about a year now and I'm pretty sure I finally found the cause. Last Spring the car died on the road and we had it towed to a local service center where they said the fuel pump was bad...this was the 2nd in about 2 years (previous owners doc). We had it replaced and the car was fine but as mentioned had a random misfire code that would come and go. In the last month the car has left us stranded several times and then started after a few hours or a day. While checking the connection to the fuel pump with a meter and test light I verified the pump was getting power correctly to the 5-pin connector but would not start. I unplugged the connector and the 1st 2 pins in the harness connector were damaged and probably burnt.

I cleaned it and applied dialectic grease and plugged it back in turned on the key...fuel pump primed and then the car started and ran fine. It then started to randomly turn on and off but not enough to stall the car. I wiggled the connector and the it I could make it run or shut off. Obviously the connector is bad and the contacts are intermittent. While driving the vibrations would move it just enough to make it cut on and off and more than likely cause a misfire code and sometimes stall the car. My problem now is I can't find a replacement connector/pigtail for the harness connector anywhere including the dealer. Where can I get a new connector for the 5-pin fuel pump harness connector? I have found a MAF replacement connector that looks very similar but not 100% sure if it's the same.

Passat (B5) :: Random And Cylinder 1 Misfire At Idle And Low RPM

1999 Passat 2.8L. New coil pack assembly, wires, plugs, valve cover gasket(oil in plug holes). Misfire at idle and low rpm. Driving at higher rpm's misfire seems to go away. Codes are random misfire and cyl 1 misfire. Need to know if I would get an injector code if a fault or If that motor has problem with faulty cams or springs or any other common problems. I am going to do a compression check this weekend I'll update that info.....

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: VR6 - Random Multiple / Cylinder Misfire

Replaced my water pump March 2nd using the "From Below" method. Started the car after and the check engine light was on and water pump was no longer leaking. I drove the GTI to Advance (15 Mins away) it drove fine and I pulled two codes.

P0300 - Random Multiple/Cylinder Misfire
P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire

The car pulled and drove normally. The next day the car is misfiring badly. Hesitation and bucks when accelerating until roughly 3k then smooths out.

I will swap my coilpacks and check if the misfire moves as soon as I can get my hands on an OBD2 Scan Tool.

From what I understand about the VR6 :

-The water pump runs off the serpentine belt
-Camshaft timing is controlled by the timing chain.
-Timing chain is not affected by the serpentine belt/pulleys.

Questions :

-Can turning the Crankshaft Pulley affect timing?
-Can that be the cause of the misfire?

Mazda - Mazda6 :: 2006 - P0302 Random Misfire - CEL Comes On

Mazda6. I have a check engine light for a random misfire on cylinder 2. I have changed the spark plugs, the injector, and even the cylinder 2 coil, but still have that random misfire. The funny thing is that it would run great within short (about 30 miles) one way trips. Lately, I have gotten a new symptom: It has started to hesitate and can feel a loss of power but only once the car has been driven for about ten minutes non stop. Can't figure this out.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: No Start - Random Misfire / Stalling And Bad MPG

Well first the exact car I have. 99.5 Jetta 2.0 AEG. It all started with one loud backfire with a stall at a stop light while in neutral. After that it was random stalling and jerking while driving. So I checked my everything and all seemed well. I replaced spark plugs because they where fouled and nasty. Cables are good. They're near new and tested them with a multimeter. Next I checked my injectors and they are surprisingly very clean.

I had also ran seafoam prior to these problems a few weeks before it all started. Next step was new fuel filter. Old one was nasty and black stuff dripped out. That didn't work. So I checked for vacuum leaks with throttle body cleaner. Nothing. Visually threre is nothing wrong under the hood. So today I changed the fuel pump. Went for a test drive all seemed well. Can out of the bank. Then it won't start. So I wait like normally. And it normally gets me home. Nothing. Will sometimes start but if I'm not holding the gas it dies. I don't know what to do. My only other thing I can think of is the coil pack.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 VR6 Random Misfire In Cylinder 2 And 5

About a month ago my wife's 2000 Jetta with the VR6 engine in it started acting up and throwing codes. The codes it threw were for random misfire, misfire in cylinder 2, and misfire in cylinder 5. Starting out, we changed spark plugs, fuel filter, and made sure the injectors were clean.

The problem didn't go away so we water tested the coil and wires, but they passed that test. The wires were quite old and out of spec, while the coil was in-spec across all terminals, according to the vehicle service manual, so we installed some new OEM leads this weekend. While installing the leads we noticed a disconnected vacuum line and reconnected that as well.

The vehicle was driving great for two and a half days, then today while I was sitting at a stop light, it started missing really badly and felt like it was going to kill. It did this for about 5 seconds, then recovered and ran smooth for about 5 seconds, before getting really rough until I started driving when the light changed. It didn't do it when I drove it a few hours later at all. This episode didn't throw any codes either.

What could be causing this issue? Would the MAF cause the intermittent missing, or is it possible that the computer is going bad?
