I just noticed yesterday when I used the electronic Parking Brake. When I engaged the Electronic Parking brake, the DRL Indicator (light) on the dash went off. I did not go outside of the vehicle to see if they actually turned off (the vehicle was still running). Is that normal?

Battery is dead and electronic parking brake is engaged. Hooked up a battery jumper and still am unable to release the brake. Is there a mechanical workaround to disengage the electronic parking brake?Need to be able to get the Tiguan out of my garage in order for a tow truck to take it to the dealer to address an overall electrical issue that is cause the car to lose power... hence the dead battery.
I have bi-xenon lamps and DRLs. The manual states that the DRLs are supposed to turn off when the transmission is in Park and the parking brake is engaged. My DRLs do NOT turn off.
So, my question is: Do your DRLs turn off when the car's in Park and the parking brake is engaged?
Just like the title says, I have a 2013 Tiguan. When I park and turn off the Tiguan, I will hear the the parking brake activate and then turn it back off immediately. It doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.
View 1 RepliesI went skiiing this past weekend in Angel Fire, NM. When it was time to leave on Sunday I started the car and proceeded to undo the parking brake (I was parked on a n incline). As I press the button I get a message saying something like "Electronic Parking Brake Fault. Please Service". Then I press it again and it works. Is this something I can expect more of, or could it be due to the cold weather? It was 13F outside then at the time, and the car is a 2006 with 52K on it.
View 14 RepliesOk so this is the problem now, i went to check my fuses and pulled a #20 out to see if the cigarette lighter fuse was blown. Guess what? i start the car and all of a sudden the Electronic Parking brake failure kicked on. I tried to get the car out and now it won't get out of park! FML i heard that you can just unplug the battery for 15 min and that should reset the car but who knows... I got vw roadside coming to see what they can do it might need to get towed though
View 7 RepliesI always apply my parking brake whether im parked on an incline or not. Sometimes if I disengage the parking brake, and set my car in Drive on a flat surface, my car does not advance (I'm not pressing the gas). This tells me that my parking brake is sticking! If I apply the gas slowly, I hear the brakes "clunk" off and I finally get going.

I went through a recommended adaption sequence and I'm back to square one. warning light for [P] - traction control light - display says Parking Brake Fault See Owners Manual. And there are codes for Parking Brake Control Head Electronic Malfunction...
View 4 RepliesMy mom drives 2012 tiguan. Somehow she engaged parking brake and didn't know how to disengage. So she put the car in drive and pressed gas pedal tiny bit. It seems this did disengage the parking brake but she feels like car started to make more noise. Is she just paranoid?
View 11 RepliesI got my 2011 Tiguan today but the manual is being shipped up so I don't have it yet. I got it home (I love it), and I stopped at my mailbox and engaged the parking brake. I had engaged it before and only had to let up the clutch and it would disengage. This time it stalled. I started it again. Pushed the parking brake button down. It would not release. Pulled it up. It would not release. Simultaneously pulled it up and put my foot on the brake, and it released. I know it's gotta be easier than this, but I don't know the trick yet I guess.
View 11 RepliesMy 2012 Tuguan has, of course, the electric parking brake. It is very refreshing to have a car with a parking brake that actually works. I'm a believer in actually using them.... unlike my wife who just doesn't see the point. And I use it a lot, like for long waits in traffic..... it's so easy.
Anyway, I am wondering how it works. I took a quick look underneath, looking for a motor operated cable that might be working on a secondary drum, but didn't see anything like this. To be honest, I have never seen parking brakes work directly on a disc. I thought it might be possible that there is an electric hydraulic pump that closes the calipers, but this would require some fairly complex valving to prevent back pressure on the master cylinder. How it works. I can hear what sounds like a motor(s) running for a couple of seconds when I raise the little paddle.
I have a 05 Ford escape with 107K. When I make a right turn and applying the brakes I feel a clunking in the brake pedal. checked all front brakes and all is ok. So I looked at the drive shaft on the drivers side. I can move or wobble the drive shaft around on the in board CV going in the transmission. Is that normal?
There are no "Clicking" sounds any where while turning which would tell me that is what it is. Also while driving slow not applying brakes there is a lot of clunking and knocking sounds while going over a few little bumps here and there. Is it the inboard CV joint?
I recently had the rear pads replaced on my 2010 Tig after about 39k miles by my local mechanic (won't do that again). Not soon after I received the warning light that indicated a parking brake error but had no issue using the brake. Took it to the dealer for the 40k service and they checked the brake. Couldn't find anything wrong with it after diagnostics but they did reset it. Service Mgr said I may get the error again and they would have to look into it further (possibly the switch??). Received the error again today.
View 4 RepliesHaving issue with E-Brake when car has been park for a long time. Mine makes noise every time I leave my car park for a long time, like as if the brakes are stuck on the rotor. It would make a noise as if my rotors were rusty, and would diminish after the car has been driven around town for quite some time, but does not completely go away.

View 2 RepliesEver notice when you shut off the engine and get out of your tig sometimes there is a motor whizzing sound near the rear? Well I finally noticed what it was. Just so happened to be looking down at my electronic parking brake when the sound occurred and noticed the indicating light on my parking brake turn on and off with the sound. It must be cycling the parking brake to keep it in good working order.
View 3 RepliesJust got the Tiguan SE- love it! We have had it for about 3 weeks. I noticed sometimes while applying the brakes, the RPM's will go up as I am slowing down. I know the car has to move between gears when slowing down or speeding up, but it almost as if it gets "stuck" in a gear when the car is slowing down. Any thoughts, input? We don't drive fast, we apply the brakes and gas slowly to ease the car in. This just seems odd as my past car (2005 Maza 3) did not do this. I am new the VW family so maybe I am just not used this.
View 6 RepliesBrand new 2011 tiguan SEL with the Kessy keyless entry and ignition system. Today it wouldn't start. Had it over at my brothers house, vsited for a bit and then were heading out to dinner. The steering wheel light on the tach face was flashing red and beeping at me. Foot on the brake, finger on the engine start/stop button and nothing - the red steering wheel icon just flashes and beeps. The frustrating part was since the car is brand new, I had the owners manual on the dining room table at my house, an hour away It was just a few minutes after 6, so I was unable to get anyone in the service dept at the dealer I bought it from. Luckily, the salesperson returned my call (go Francisco!) and grabbed a manual from another Tiguan to tell me what the flashing light means. Basically, it means the car won't start. Very frustrating, the car has 268 miles on it and is only 6 days old. Having it towed back to the dealer for diagnoses and repair. CSB?
View 13 RepliesToday the parking brake light didn't turn off when I released the parking brake. Other than the light staying on, nothing else unusual occurred. I did not notice any indication that the brakes were dragging. The brake fluid level was near maximum.
After reading earlier Priuschat posts on this subject, I found the cause which apparently is explained in technical service bulletin TSB BR002-07 (Parking Brake Light Won't Go Out | PriusChat)
Here's what happened to me. For some reason, the entire switch body loosened from the firewall and moved away far enough away from the lever arm such that it couldn't contact the switch and close it when the pedal was released. I think it happened because I pressed the pedal too quickly and with too much force somehow. The switch is at the top of the pedal assembly and it's not too difficult to reach
So, I pushed the switch back against the lever arm and presto, the brake light turned off as it's supposed to. I tried the parking brake several times and it is fixed for now. Now I need to determine how to tighten the switch so it won't move again.
I was down at H20i this past weekend and had my window cracked and a truck splashed water into my car all over my dash. Then all my lights started flickering. So I let it air out for about 2hrs and cleaned it all up and the problem went away expect the parking brake light flickered for a bit then just stayed on and kept binging at me and says to release the parking brake. So when I got home I let it air out all night and let my windows down and put my car in the sun all day today. Parking brake light is still on.
