Just like the title says, I have a 2013 Tiguan. When I park and turn off the Tiguan, I will hear the the parking brake activate and then turn it back off immediately. It doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.

Battery is dead and electronic parking brake is engaged. Hooked up a battery jumper and still am unable to release the brake. Is there a mechanical workaround to disengage the electronic parking brake?Need to be able to get the Tiguan out of my garage in order for a tow truck to take it to the dealer to address an overall electrical issue that is cause the car to lose power... hence the dead battery.
I just noticed yesterday when I used the electronic Parking Brake. When I engaged the Electronic Parking brake, the DRL Indicator (light) on the dash went off. I did not go outside of the vehicle to see if they actually turned off (the vehicle was still running). Is that normal?

View 6 RepliesMy mom drives 2012 tiguan. Somehow she engaged parking brake and didn't know how to disengage. So she put the car in drive and pressed gas pedal tiny bit. It seems this did disengage the parking brake but she feels like car started to make more noise. Is she just paranoid?
View 11 RepliesI got my 2011 Tiguan today but the manual is being shipped up so I don't have it yet. I got it home (I love it), and I stopped at my mailbox and engaged the parking brake. I had engaged it before and only had to let up the clutch and it would disengage. This time it stalled. I started it again. Pushed the parking brake button down. It would not release. Pulled it up. It would not release. Simultaneously pulled it up and put my foot on the brake, and it released. I know it's gotta be easier than this, but I don't know the trick yet I guess.
View 11 RepliesMy 2012 Tuguan has, of course, the electric parking brake. It is very refreshing to have a car with a parking brake that actually works. I'm a believer in actually using them.... unlike my wife who just doesn't see the point. And I use it a lot, like for long waits in traffic..... it's so easy.
Anyway, I am wondering how it works. I took a quick look underneath, looking for a motor operated cable that might be working on a secondary drum, but didn't see anything like this. To be honest, I have never seen parking brakes work directly on a disc. I thought it might be possible that there is an electric hydraulic pump that closes the calipers, but this would require some fairly complex valving to prevent back pressure on the master cylinder. How it works. I can hear what sounds like a motor(s) running for a couple of seconds when I raise the little paddle.
I recently had the rear pads replaced on my 2010 Tig after about 39k miles by my local mechanic (won't do that again). Not soon after I received the warning light that indicated a parking brake error but had no issue using the brake. Took it to the dealer for the 40k service and they checked the brake. Couldn't find anything wrong with it after diagnostics but they did reset it. Service Mgr said I may get the error again and they would have to look into it further (possibly the switch??). Received the error again today.
View 4 RepliesHaving issue with E-Brake when car has been park for a long time. Mine makes noise every time I leave my car park for a long time, like as if the brakes are stuck on the rotor. It would make a noise as if my rotors were rusty, and would diminish after the car has been driven around town for quite some time, but does not completely go away.
View 12 RepliesWhenever I start my 2011 Sonata Turbo after it has been resting overnight, the brake warning light comes on and stays on. It's not immediate?it usually takes five to ten seconds, and whether the emergency brake was on when I started has no effect. Once it goes on, it cannot be shut off without shutting off the car and restarting?at which time it acts normally for the rest of the day. The braking system is fine.

View 11 RepliesI have purchased a second hand Lexus GS350 F 2015 with only 12,000 miles on it. I do have an issue with the parking brake. It works fine sometimes, and sometimes it blacks out and I keep getting the (!) sign and message saying (Check Parking Brake System, Parking Brake Inoperable) with blinking red Parking sign. It simply releases the brake and it doesn't function at all. It goes sometimes by itself and comes back. This issue usually happens after driving the car mileage not immediately when starting up the car. How to handle this problem and which part is malfunctioning.
View 2 RepliesToday the parking brake light didn't turn off when I released the parking brake. Other than the light staying on, nothing else unusual occurred. I did not notice any indication that the brakes were dragging. The brake fluid level was near maximum.
After reading earlier Priuschat posts on this subject, I found the cause which apparently is explained in technical service bulletin TSB BR002-07 (Parking Brake Light Won't Go Out | PriusChat)
Here's what happened to me. For some reason, the entire switch body loosened from the firewall and moved away far enough away from the lever arm such that it couldn't contact the switch and close it when the pedal was released. I think it happened because I pressed the pedal too quickly and with too much force somehow. The switch is at the top of the pedal assembly and it's not too difficult to reach
So, I pushed the switch back against the lever arm and presto, the brake light turned off as it's supposed to. I tried the parking brake several times and it is fixed for now. Now I need to determine how to tighten the switch so it won't move again.
I was down at H20i this past weekend and had my window cracked and a truck splashed water into my car all over my dash. Then all my lights started flickering. So I let it air out for about 2hrs and cleaned it all up and the problem went away expect the parking brake light flickered for a bit then just stayed on and kept binging at me and says to release the parking brake. So when I got home I let it air out all night and let my windows down and put my car in the sun all day today. Parking brake light is still on.
View 6 RepliesMine is a 2015 ES350. I drove it normally on last Friday. Today Monday morning, the car can't be started. Other symptoms are no any lights, stiff brake, shift locked in parking position, no clank with a jump starter.
The battery connection is tight; I also tried both keys and holding it right next to the start button. It seems like the car system is shut down.
I may call AAA to tow to dealer. However, the shift is in parking mode. Is there any way I can override the shift to N?
I have bi-xenon lamps and DRLs. The manual states that the DRLs are supposed to turn off when the transmission is in Park and the parking brake is engaged. My DRLs do NOT turn off.
So, my question is: Do your DRLs turn off when the car's in Park and the parking brake is engaged?
Had my car parked outside of work for about 12 hours yesterday, and in the NYC cold front, the parking break must have stuck on slightly. When I started to move, despite the fact I'd released the parking break, I received a warning in the MFI that said PARKING BREAK FAILURE TO RELEASE. I pulled the handle again and heard it pop just a little more off. Everything worked great after that. If I hadn't received the alert I probably would have driven off with it on. I'd probably have noticed the hesitation and checked the break again, but the alert was useful. Some of the warnings in the MFI can appear to be a pain at times, but it's amazing how thorough a job VW has done monitoring the cars systems and giving real time information if something doesn't work. You just have to make sure you don't get info overload from it all!!

View 1 RepliesIts been consistently below freezing around here and when the car is cold, I get a parking brake fault as soon as I turn on the ignition. When I press the button it will usually release the brake, however further presses result is flaky operation, inconsistently flipping between working properly and showing a fault. However, if I can clear the fault, Auto-Hold works fine, and once the car is warmed up, the parking brake works flawlessly.

But when I check the codes there is nothing and the check engine light never turns on, so how do you tell which one to replace? Or is my problem something different? I drive a 1999.5 vr6 Jetta.
