Tiguan :: 2012 - Just Died While Driving?

May 20, 2014

I have a 2012 Tiguan that's about 2 1/2 years old now, and, naturally, just shy of my 40k mile service window. For the most part, it's driven flawlessly. Today, after driving for about an hour and a half, it randomly died, and the alternator light came on. Ironically, this happened just a few hundred feet from my house, and it essentially agreed to limp home at about 15 mph until it got into my driveway, at which point the power steering gave out. I put it in park, turned it off and took out the key, waited about 30 seconds (a lifetime of PC troubleshooting is hard to ignore) and restarted, with no issues or warning lights. I don't have any OBD tool to pull the codes right now.

I can get it into the dealer probably by Friday, but I have two days of needing to go to a customer that's 40 miles away. I'm concerned about this happening at highway speeds, rather than on an empty residential street. To be fair, I had been driving a while, it's the warmest day of the year, and I had the A/C on and off throughout the drive, as well as radio and my iphone charging (nothing unusual, though). Any thoughts on if I should seriously worry about driving it around the next two days, or if it was likely a fluke?

Kia - Sportage :: 2012 - Died While Driving / Would Not Accelerate

My wife was driving home yesterday when our Kia would not accelerate when she pressed the accelerator. All the lights came on the dashboard and the engine shut off. So, she had to pull over.

After she pulled over and attempted to restart the engine, the engine would turn over (click like it wanted to start) but would not start. Though the fuel was low, the tank still had 1/8th of a tank, and the "low fuel" light was not on.

This morning, I put gas in the car and it started after two or three attempts. I was able to drive it to a gas station to fill it up. The car started without any issues.

It started, but I'm concerned that there is an underlying issue, like a fuel pump, filter, or something else.

Tiguan :: 2012 - Driving With Parking Brake On

My mom drives 2012 tiguan. Somehow she engaged parking brake and didn't know how to disengage. So she put the car in drive and pressed gas pedal tiny bit. It seems this did disengage the parking brake but she feels like car started to make more noise. Is she just paranoid?

Tiguan :: 2012 SE - Rattle In Cargo Area When Driving On Even Moderately Rough Pavement

Our 2012 SE has an intermittent rattle somewhere in the rear of the Tiguan when riding on even moderately rough pavement. Ultimately I'll have to crawl around back there while my wife drives up and down a rough road to locate the rattle, I guess, What was the source of the rattle.

Tiguan :: Engine Died When Stepped On The Gas

Just had my 2012 die on me briefly in a parking lot. I was backing out of my parking space, put the car in drive and when I stepped on the gas...engine died. The battery light was on, but all electronics in the car seemed to be working fine. It then started right back up after I put it in park.

Tiguan :: Battery Died / No Key Holes Found In The Car

My girlfriend has a Tiguan, and I noticed there are no key holes anywhere in the car. I noticed this after leaving the lights on in my GTI and having to manually key in to gain access to the car.

What happens if she were to leave her lights on? Is there a separate battery source for the keyless entry? I have to think there's something smarter (than me) to keep you from getting totally locked out of your car if your battery should die...

Tiguan :: Car Battery Died Suddendly After A Long Trip

Yesterday night I got back from a tired long trip and forgot the light nob on fog light position. This afternoon I went out to the car the battery is dead.

I asked dealer but they claim this is a feature to leave side lights on if I left light nob at fog/side position while key is removed. I used to own a 2009 Corolla with auto light, it always turn off all lights regardless light switch position after key is removed.

Car model is 2010 Tiguan Hightline / SEL

Tiguan :: Battery Died Now Driver Side Back Door Actuator Won't Work

Among other issues that have been happening with our tig, the battery crapped out. Replaced the battery no problem. The drivers side auto up and down stopped working but that was an easy fix.

When the battery died we noticed the chirp wasn'tt happening when you lock the car. Back left door isn't locking or unlocking with either the fob or any buttons on doors. The lock buttons on the affected door either, but the window works fine.

This seems like the battery dying caused it, is there some way to reset it like the auto up?

Tiguan :: 2012 - TPMS Light Came On

My wife's TPMS light came on yesterday, I checked the tire pressures this AM and set them all to 38psi, one wheel was down a few PSI, and went for a drive. everything seems fine.

TPMS light is still on, this is a canadian trendline w/4motion.

I do not have MFSW but I do seem to have the full MFD. The manual says to reset via the settings menu which I cannot access. no combination of button pushing on the cluster or control stalk will give me the settings menu. I do not see a button in front of the shift lever or in the glove box like other models have.

Having speaker replacement on Tiguans lately? I have a 2012 SE RNS315 without the Dynaudio system and find it to be OK, but the midrange and highs are just lacking at least to my ear.

I dont really want to do a headunit replacement, just replace the speakers in the front and rear doors if possible.

Tiguan :: 2012 - Power Loss Over 60 Mph?

I am a new owner of 2012 VW Tiguan basic model. I noticed that AWD was replaced by 4Motion was told it is AWD in VW. I drove two AWD (Outlook and Edge) before but they are quite different from I have now with this Tiguan. When driving less than 50 mph, it is perfect and normal. I fell no difference from I had with previous AWAD. However, when speed exceeds 60 mph, I can feel the "active driving" control kick in to intervene my powertrain. If you sit entirely on your seat, you can feel the car body try to swing a twist occasionally, it come and go and let me feel the car is running unstable. I actually have an advanced degree in ME and have been working on auto industries for years. But this is strange to me. I have some theory below:

1) something wrong with 4motion, it activates too fast or violently to cause tail twist (it is like you brake one rear wheel as tag and go style, so that your car still go but your tail swing a little bit)

2) unbalanced rear differential (due to dirty debris or grease?) such that one wheel has more resistant drag than the other? As 4Motion activated thru multi-disk clutch, the abrupt force cause two wheel rotate at slight different speed to swing the rear body? BTW, are these multi-disc controlled by on-off type or PWM? and at what speed, it activate? My previous AWD seem to be passive type with purely hydraulic to pass torque.

3) miss-calibration on the 4motion activation map? is there a way to smooth the clutch locking mechanism by sequential locking or increase the locking period? VW AD said about timely 4 wheel drive mechanical system. I would like to what timely means in this incidence?

4) Either front wheel aligned such as not enough toe-in or toe-out? I just have the car for one week. I plan to bring it back to check for remedy. Or 4 wheel miss aligned? but it is hard to explain why the car run normal under 50 mph?

My car is 2012 VW Tiguan with 40000 miles, turbo, basic trim and no navigation. Not even a compass? It does have a nice white car body to show if the door is open.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2012 GLS - Lost All Power / Car Lit Up For A Split Second And Then Died

I drove my 2012 Sonata GLS to work, when I left work the car lit up for a split second and then died. I thought the battery was the problem, swapped it out with a new one, nothing. Main fuse is good and all the fuses in the engine compartment are fine. Oddly the interior fuse box is not receiving power at all. Multi-meter shows life in the battery and engine fuses. There are no working lights of any kind, nothing happens when I turn the key, Key FOB not working, the whole nine yards.

The car has 63,000 miles on it, I purchased it 4 months ago from a dealership, declining bumper to bumper warranty. My sales rep and the warranty manager reassured me the 5 year, 100k powertrain would be transferred to me, and it wasn't. I'm currently fighting with the dealership over them covering it, but that's a whole other story.

Tiguan :: 2012 VW (43k) CEL Came On / Engine Sputtering / Misfire

A few days ago, my CEL came on when I got to work, I assumed it was a misfire because when I got off work it was off. Now, I just got to work and my CEL came on when I left my house. I have been noticing engine sputtering/wastegate when I'm around 2-3k rpm, hovering around 20-35mph, after that I don't notice it. I bought the car used at 39k miles, the 40k service, nor an oil change has been done since last september. (not sure if that's a factor). I've skimmed the forums and head it could possibly be the spark plugs/coil plugs/ or turbo.

Tiguan :: 2012 - Car Has A Whine From The Steering Wheel

After seeing my new car my mom decided she wanted a new one too lol (i got a 2012 gti) so she traded her 2008 camry in for a new 2012 tiguan. I went to my parents house when they got it to see how the tsi is in the tig compared to my gti.

Her car has a whine from the steering wheel. She took it into vw (has had it now about 5 days) and they said it's normal and will go away. I don't believe the dealership in saying it will go away. I feel like it's something simple too like a squeaky bearing or something and just needs some lube. Also in low speeds/low rpm (it's an automatic) it sounds kinda loud (like putting manual in to high of a gear that low rumble type noise).

I'm comparing this to a 4cyl 2005 Ford Focus, which is my Wifes old car (the tig is her tenative replacement) .. She stated that freeway/highway is good, just city driving isn't that great.
