I have a 2012 Tig S. I hear a rattle coming from under dash by steering wheel. It happens over rough pavement. Had it at the dealer, they replaced the sway bar linkage. The noise is still there. Service rep. says its normal. I drove another new Tig and it felt tight. I only have 12000 miles on it. Really like my Tig.
View 9 RepliesOur 2012 SE has an intermittent rattle somewhere in the rear of the Tiguan when riding on even moderately rough pavement. Ultimately I'll have to crawl around back there while my wife drives up and down a rough road to locate the rattle, I guess, What was the source of the rattle.
View 16 RepliesOk, I am new to the Tiguan but not new to VW engines. For the last 11 years I am driving a 1.8T and I test drove the newer GTIs and Audis with the 2.0T. But with my 2012 Tiguan S manual I find the engine to be a little loud and rough sounding. Especially under heavy load it more reminds me of a diesel than a 4 banger turbo. Now, is this this normal or is it just my engine?
View 16 RepliesSince Ive got my 2010 Tiguan 2.0 TSI, I hear a creaking noise coming from the front right suspension when riding over uneven pavement. The dealer said it is a common known problem from many Tiguans caused by the engine mount and that VW recommends the change of that part.
The new engine mount is slightly different from the one that is installed in my car. I am still waiting for the part to arrive and to be changed. Meanwhile, I spoke with another 2010 Tiguan owner, here in Brazil, whose car has already received the new part.
He said that the creaking noise has gone but now he feels more vibration coming from the engine and a kind of "diesel-engine-sound" when accelerating... Location of the engine mount: [URL] ....

I assume that the first number is the part number, the last is the manufacturing date and the others are either car model or manufacturer code or anything else. Note that the part number is the same, except by the letter suffix: "G" in the "old" one and "E" in the "new" part. Well, the suffix designation does not make sense for an evolutionary design...
My questions are:
1) Is it a new design or is it a roll back to an older part that does not cause that problem although it was probably modified due to another issue?
2) Is this part number specific for 2.0 TSI engine or is it the same for other engines (petrol/diesel)?
3) Which engine mount have you got on your cars?
Is it me or rattles are common thing in Tiguans? I can hear at least 3-4 different rattles when the radio is off. I eliminated one by pulling iPod interface unit out and applying some felt pieces around.
It is now snug and quiet. I still hear one coming from the front passenger door, one or two from the back seat and possibly one more from the trunk area. There is also a faint buzzing noise when I apply gas, it sound like a loose or rattling heat shield or something (can't pinpoint that one).
I also wanted to ask how to remove a door panel, I'd like to take a peak in it to see if I can find the culprit myself before I get "problem can not be replicated" from the dealer.
I'm not sure if this is just my unit, if so maybe I will talk to the dealer, but I noticed that the door 'rattles' when you close it while the windows are rolled down. This is true of all the doors.
I think basically the glass from the rolled down window shakes about when the door is slammed shut. You end up hearing the rattle and the general feeling is cheap. Other than that, the door feels solid if the windows are rolled up. I think maybe rolling it down, the window has less points of support on the free end. So it becomes looser and can rattle around. But when the window is rolled up, it has its free end fixed so it doesn't rattle.
So is it just my unit or does yours do that too? I noticed some cheaper cars I've either rented or test drove do this too. I believe the unit I test drove at the dealer did this too so maybe it is universal for all pre-2016 Tiguans?
Glove box rattle on the 3rd gen RX. Mine makes a slight noise over very rough pavement. It seems to make noise at the latch, so a felt is probably not going to work.
View 2 RepliesUpon noticing some squeaking noise when my car hits particularly rough pavement I asked my mechanic to take a look. He informed me that my front lower control arm bushings have shifted, the right one some, and the left just a hair. The car was involved in an accident some years back and about two years ago I ran it into a curb bad enough to shift my steering wheel about 10-15 degrees out of position.
According to the mechanic, it its not a bad problem currently, drivability is not at all affected, but it could be a potential issue in the future. However, because I just identified the problem, I don't know if it is recent or has been there all along for the last 5 years (just inherited the car from my dad a few months ago). For the moment, its wait and see if it gets any worse.
So I say, OK, whats it take to correct it, just for future reference. This is when I find out that the 02 Camry, for some insane reason, has control arm bushings that are not replaceable without replacing the entire control arm. And if that wasn't bad enough, the control arms cannot be removed without lifting or removing the engine AND transmission!?
I noticed that my sunroof creaks slightly when going over rough pavement when closed. I can duplicate the noise by pushing up on the closed sunroof with my fist. It's not loud at all but with the radio off and at lower speeds I can hear it.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2002 BMW 525i with 100k miles. Since I bought it at 30,000 miles there has been a braking problem. If I am applying the brakes and hit a bump or rough pavement, the brakes start to "pulse", they make a "rattley, clattering" kind of sound, and it feels as though they will fail to stop the car. Removing my foot from the brake for a breif moment then reapplying the brake past the bump or rough pavement stops this from happening. Most mechanics claim they can't reproduce it, but I can. At about 50K miles I decided to self diagnosis the problem as a bad sensor or "motor" for the antilocking system. I had it replaced which appeared to resolve the issue for a while. But it is now back. What this may be?
View 3 RepliesSwapped for Warn standard hubs a few months back when the ESOF's turned out to be trashed.
Since then, I've noticed a rattle coming from the hubs when driving over rough or broken pavement. I've checked the outer caps and they're good and snug, proper amount of grease inside, and the hub itself is completely secure.
Do aftermarket hubs have tis issue? It's not critical, but on cooler evenings with the windows down it sound like a rattle trap unless the roads are in good shape. More of a pet peeve I suppose, but still curious.
2000 ML430 230,000 mi. The engine starts and all is fine until I hit a spot of rough pavement or a minor bump and the engine "stumbles," feels like it has cut out or starving for fuel. I have been unable to tell whether it is left front or rear right tire or corner of the car that hits the bump and starts the engine running on limp home.Once it happens and I stop at a light then hit the gas, I can count to 4 before the engine responds, making left turns dangerous. MB factory service since new. The dealer has replaced spark plug wires, spark plugs, crankcase sensor, gas pedal sensor and still the same problem. I think it is a loose wire or ground since it only happens after I go over a bump(even a seam on concrete any jiggle does it).
View 3 RepliesMy 2012 Plug-in spontaneously started making a metal scraping/rattling noise in the middle of a low-speed drive around the neighborhood yesterday. Seems to be coming from the left front wheel area. I've checked thoroughly under the car and in the front wheel wells for anything that could be dragging/rubbing, and I can't find a culprit there.
It occurs while coasting in EV mode, so not ICE/exhaust related. The car doesn't pull to one side or the other. Only 9K miles, so I wouldn't suspect a hub bearing or any other significant wear to be causing this.
Possible clue or red herring: the dealer replaced the the left front tire and did an alignment two days ago, and the noise occurred within 15 miles of driving after that service.
Was talking to a cab company running over a hundred Prius, they like the gas mileage.
Biggest problem running a hundred plus Prius in LA is the skirt front bumper is so low to the ground (for better aerodynamics) ... less than 5 inches ground clearance when loaded ... it hits the ground and bows the side moldings of the bumper.
When ever my Camry its a rough road the trunk rattles like their is something moving around in it, however there is nothing in the trunk, I checked to make sure the spare was secure and it is. What could be the problem?

View 12 RepliesI noticed my 2014.5 camry has a loose driver's window. When rolled down between 2 to 6 inches, it rattles when driving over small bumps If I actually feel the window, it moves about 1/8 inch to the sides when open 2 to 6 inches. I mentioned this at my one year service. The tech showed me other 14.5 SE's they had the same problem only on the driver's window. He said the dealers can't do anything about it because it is how Toyota designed the cars.

While I am at it I figure I will grease the front wheel brg cartridge, replace the needle brg that is inside the cartridge. I am also afraid I will the axle shaft vacuum seal. I don't want to go to ford an get raped, diesel O-rings doesn't have parts for the newer pickups and I don't want to get junk from the parts houses. Where I can get these parts for a reasonable price? What the best brands are? Are they the same parts as the earlier super duties? I know the lock out is different.
View 2 Replies2012 Passat SEL ... I got new tires put on a few weeks ago and have a new rattle, sounds like glass tapping against glass or metal on metal. It only happens when I'm cruising around 65 mph. From where I am in the drivers seat, it sounds like it's coming from the drivers rear tire area or under/behind the center console/dash board. I know it's not a lot of info, but need to figure out what's going on.
