Tiguan :: 2011- Transmission Thumps While Stopped?
Mar 10, 2012
So we have a new 2011 Tiguan with about 3,300 miles. I noticed a while ago that when coming to a stop, or rolling a few feet and stopping the driveline would almost "thump" when stopped. You can feel it like the torque converter is releasing, or it's engaging a gear and almost moving forward a bit. The other day it seemed to be getting worse, and it's very repeatable as an issue. This is our second Tiguan, the previous being 4motion and this one being FWD.

2011 SEL 4Motion w/ 2500 miles.
The tranny thumps sometimes at low speed to the point where I sometimes think I have been rear ended. It's the worst in stop and go traffic, shortly after coming to stop there is a thump.
Another way I can get it to do it is at a stop, let foot off brake most of the way, not all the way, but still enough where the car doesnt move. Then push the pedal back to the floor, there is a large thump...WHY! Driving me crazy. Something with the torque converter?
Also, is it not possible to let your foot off the brake and not have the car jerk forward without even stepping on the accelerator?

I have a 2011 tiguan 2.0tdi 4motion, around 3 days ago the left headlight dipped beam stopped working, I replaced the bulb with no avail, the sidelights, and high beam work, just nothing on dipped beam, at first the warning lamp illuminated with the message on the screen, of check left dipped beam, I've checked and have no voltage going to the connection the bulb connects to, now the warming light and message have dissapeared but still no headlight. Where to locate the fuse for the headlight...

I just bought this car (2000 miles) and I have noticed that it shifts gears oddly (hard to describe) and I get thumps and jolts in the transmission at low speeds, parking lot driving, going from reverse to drive.
Any knowledge of this transmission and it is possible there is something wrong?

I've got a 2011 tiguan SEL 4motion and occasionally it feels like after starting the car and putting it in D (typically only when it's moved right into D) it seems to feel like the transmissions is repeatedly trying to get into gear. It doesn't seem to effect being able to drive off just seemed odd and kind of annoying. Or like the torque converter was locking and unlocking repeatedly.
I've also felt the same occasional jolt while sitting at a stop. I'll be bringing the car in for a 40k soon and will be having them check it out, but thought I'd see if this was a typical thing.

Sometimes when I stop at a light about 5 seconds after I come to a complete stop, I'll feel a bump in my transmission likes its trying to lunge forward. Today I started my car and put it in drive and when I did so with the brake applied, it was rhythmically bumping once every 2 second or so, almost like a heartbeat. It did it about 15 times and I shut my car off, started back up and it hasn't done it since. I know the first issue is somewhat common but the second one where it kept doing it was really weird. It has about 35k miles and is already on its second tranny(per car fax changed at 2k).

This morning while driving on the freeway, the the transmission stopped shifting into 6th gear. This was at 70 mph. The only way it would shift up to 6th is by using the manual mode, however after manually shifting to 6th I moved the stick back over and it immediately downshifted to 5th at 70+ mph. Concerned, I pulled off and turned the engine off. After i restarted the engine, I continued to my destination and the trans shifted up to 6th on its own. The car has never done this.

Since I got my Tig a couple weeks ago ive noticed occasionally when stopped at a red light (usually right after I stop fully) ill feel like I've been tapped from behind slightly. Just a lil thump forward. I didn't notice it every time though. Today, while sitting at a light I was able to figure out how to reproduce it. Id like to see if you all have felt the same and if you can reproduce it like I can.
While at the light hold the brake pedal as lightly as you can while still remaining stopped. then, press it down relatively firmly. Once you push down on it, you should feel that thump. loosen up the brake a bit and then repeat. It will do it again.
I am assuming this is a set percentage of brake pressure or pedal degree that is disengaging the clutches fully. Well, that's the most I can speculate actually..just a wild guess.

I have a 2015 Tiguan and the odometer suddenly stopped working. ABS/Speed sensors? What drives the odometer anyways?

Driving home from work today, normal day in the high 60s, my temp gauge randomly stopped working. It was right at the 190 mark where it should be then a few miles from my house it just dropped to 0. When I got to my house and turned it off the fans stayed on for quite a few minutes.
I went inside and looked around on a few different forums. Most people said it was the thermostat or some sensor that could have crapped out.
Probably 30 minutes later I went out to restart it hoping the problem magically disappeared and it actually did. Start up and went straight up to 190 as it should. Turned it off to no fans as usual.
What this could be? Could it just be a sensor on the way out? Still under warranty so might try calling the dealer tomorrow when they open to ask for their input.
Just as reference my car is a 2011 with about 48k and is revo stage 1 for about 3k.

So the A/C on my wife's 2013 Tiguan stopped working suddenly this past Thursday, just our luck this weekend was the start of a 95+ degree week. Took it to the dealership today for a diagnostic and they came back saying that the line between the condenser and compressor has a leak and needs to be replaced. They're estimating about $690 including tax for the job, this includes the AC evac and refill.

Just FYI for those that may encounter key fob issues after replacing the battery:
Yesterday, I noticed the one of key fobs stopped working (2009 Tig SEL). The key fob battery was dead (tested the battery in another device). My 2nd key fob still worked, so I used that until I was able to pickup a new battery (2032) from the local store. Got home replaced the battery in the key fob that did not work. The key fob now lit the LED whenever I hit any of the buttons on the remote, but would not actually unlock/lock any of the doors / hatch or PANIC functions.
Called my local VW dealer and they to swing by (I work less than 5 minutes from them). One of the techs came out an verified the the key fob did not work, but did light up the LED. He told me they have seen this before and it does not always happen from changing the battery, but here is how he got the key fob to work:
Use the flip out key and manually open the driver's side front door (remove the little key cover on the rear of the door handle). 'Cycle' the key clockwise and counter-clockwise. Doing this locked and unlocked the veh / flashing the lights and sounded the beep. Remove keyfob and then use. The keyfob was now recognized and worked.

2005 Prius w/90,000 miles.
This morning I got in my Prius and started the car. I was waiting for my son and almost absentmindedly I put my foot on the gas enough to get the ICE revving up. The car was parked with a very slight incline forward (a few degrees at most). After a few seconds the car thumped backwards. It then continued to do that continuously with a thump about once a second. It's not a hard thump, but it's very noticeable.
It is almost as if a very small amount of power is being applied in reverse and then released quickly. I shut the car down and was able to replicate the issue. There are no error codes on my OBD2 and no unusual engine lights. Is it normal?

The DSG in my MY08 R32 is a lemon. It thumps/clunks quite loudly when shifting into 6th gear at low speed (50-60km). It seems to make the noise a lot when it's in D mode.

I recently had work done on my Volvo 2008 V50. The front axles were replaced, new brake pads in front, and new calipers and pads in the rear. When I got the car back the brake pedal would go to the floor... turned out the master had been compromised when the mechanics were bleeding the system. That was replaced (at no charge) as well.
All seems well except that now when I brake suddenly, which happens a lot in So Cal traffic, I feel a thump under the floor. I don't hear anything but can feel thump or a knock right under my feet (driver's side). This only happens when braking quickly. Braking at a slow speed does not produce the thump.

Was standing in the driveway when someone was leaving in the Prius -- All of a sudden three or four thumps -- I guess when the ICE started -- sounded just like a slapping belt ... but no belts correct? ...... this was loud.

Wife's 2011 Tiguan just stalled when she was driving it. both fuel pumps were replaced about 2 years ago when we bought it used because they faulty. After talking to my wife, I realized that she has been putting 89 in it. I'm just curious if using 89 for an extended period of time could be causing this issue? I had her pick up an octane booster because she just filled up with 89.

Just picked up a 2011 VW Tiguan 2.0t ... Got back into town and ran her thru a touchless carwash. Got it home tonight and the radiator fan ran for over 45 minutes wide open after I turned off the car before I disconnected the battery. The battery cable is off now until morning. Wet sensor?
