My 2010 Wolfsburg Tig makes rubbing noises when I turn the wheel but not moving. The noise sounds from the wheel shaft. The noise goes away when the car is moving. What's noise? Is it a normal noise for Tig?
View 6 RepliesMy 2010 Honda Odyssey EXL recently began making a whining noise that seems worse when turning the steering wheel. When in the shop for routine maintenance a few weeks ago they noted a leaking power steering suction hose although at the time it was not making any noise. Is this a likely cause? Unsure what it was I tried spraying belt dressing on the serpentine belt and it seemed to work. There was no whining for a couple days. Now it's back.

View 3 RepliesOur 2012 Prius with now 17,000 miles in 8 months has developed a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel, especially far to the right at low speeds.
The first time the dealer identified it as a failed intermediate shaft and replaced it under warranty. Shortly after we told them it was starting to make the noise again, but they claimed they couldn't replicate the sound and anything they heard was normal 'linkage' (whatever that is). Shortly thereafter the clunking progressed so we took it in for now the third time, and they confirmed the problem, spoke with Toyota who said we must have had a bad part, and replaced it again.
So the car was making a strange creaking noise from the column (the point where the wheel attaches to the column); then on a drive up north, i noticed that the horn had stopped working. Shortly after, the airbag light and warning came on, and I lost all power functions to the wheel (phone and radio control). Cruise, etc, all still work.
I'm guessing that the power harness took a dump, but unsure. Car going in on this weekend.
My 2010 Tiguan R-Line only experiences vibration in the steering wheel noticeably at 70mph plus. The tyres were brand new when i collected the car in July this year and the alloys have been balanced since having the existing alloy weights replaced with new ones in August. What the problem could be and how best to resolve this nagging issue.
View 6 RepliesToday a creaking noise suddenly developed coming from the steering wheel when turning left at slow speeds. I only have 600 miles on the Tiguan, so was a little surprised to hear this so soon. I have found many others with similar problems on VWs through Google... the problem seems to range from coil springs to tie rod ends. I am hoping that this is just a freak occurrence, but am taking it in tomorrow.
It sounds like "creaking" as if you were shutting a door that needs WD40. That's the best way to explain it.
I recently picked up a cpo rx 350 and my steering wheel makes a squishy rubber-rubber friction kinda noise when I turn - especially when I am reversing. Is it common and does it go away?
View 14 RepliesI bought an 09 Accent and love the car, good mileage and actually quiet. I have developed a noise when I turn my steering wheel. It is not there when the car is cold, but after a few moments, when I turn a corner, I hear sort of rubber on rubber sound as I turn the steering wheel.
View 2 RepliesWhen turning the steering wheel slowly while from a stop or slow speed there is a grinding sound coming from the front end. It isn't very loud but you can also feel it in the steering wheel.
Is there a common thing/problem with these? I know there isn't a pump. There isn't any kind of a vibration or wobble at highway speed.
When I turn the steering wheel I hear what sounds like a frictional noise...like a rubbing. I have checked the tires and they are ok. I have checked the Power steering fluid and it seems fine but I did add a little. I am going to wait a little time to see if the additional PW fluid works.

I own a 2009 Scion tC, has about 70k miles on the car. I am experiencing a squeaky noise when turning the steering wheel left or right, as well as accelerate and braking. A friend and I jacked up the car, listen to the noise while the engine was running. We were able to duplicate the noise and it seems like its coming from the tie rod area, inner tie rod that is connected to the rack and pinion. Do it needs to be greased? keep in mind that for my car, i will have to replace the whole tie rod, can't grease it because it doesn't have a Zerk fitting. Also, when i push down on the passenger side fender, the squeaky noise reappear. noise is coming from passenger side. This has been going on for about 2 months now.
View 2 RepliesRecently on my gen 6 with about 68k miles I have noticed a very pronounce noise when turning the steering wheel whether the car is stationary or in motion. It makes a loud creaking/popping noise and it cant be heard from outside the car. The noise happens no matter which way I turn the steering wheel. I know Toyota has had problems with their intermediate steering shafts.

View 11 RepliesI'm having an issue with my 2004 Elantra.
When I turn the ignition in my car, it makes a very loud noise at the front of the car. This goes away after about 3 seconds, but when I turn the wheel to either side, it makes a very high screeching sound. This persists until I've been driving for a few minutes then it goes away.
I hesitate to say the following, but it also feels as if my steering wheel is a bit "harder" to turn, but maybe it is my imagination. What it could be? I checked power steering fluid and it is at normal levels.
A few weeks ago I noticed a 'clunk' noise when turning the steering wheel. It only did it the first turn on a trip. Over time it has gotten worse - the sound is the same, but it happens for several turns, maybe 10 or so, before it stops. After the car sits, turned off, for a while, the cycle starts again.
I replaced the rubber coupler on the MDPS, but my old one looked fine, and it made no change in the noise.

View 4 RepliesI've got a 1993 ford aerostar. Today, my steering wheel started shaking/rattling when I turn the steering wheel. Seems to be more obvious when turning right rather than left, and is only obvious at low speeds.
Only thing out of usual was that the front had been on jacks for a few days for an unrelated (starter) repair. What to check or how to isolate? I imagine it has to do with the power steering but not sure what to check.
I bought an '08 Elantra about a month ago. A few weeks after buying it i noticed a creaking noise while turning the steering wheel to the left. It happens at low speeds or when stopped, but I haven't heard anything at high speeds. I can't tell for sure but it sounds closer to the inside of the car than the outside and will happen the entire time the steering wheel is turning to the left. No sound turning it to the right.
My brother liked my car so we test drove 3 other Elantras, 2 '08s and an '09. Two of them made the exact same noise. He ended up liking the one that didn't but after a while his started making the EXACT same noise too. I'm thinking this must be a common problem with the '07-'10 Elantras as all 4 cars had the same noise, but I can't find anything about it.
My right strut is bad and I'm having both front struts replaced Monday, so if it's something that can be done while he's doing the struts I'd like to find out before he takes everything apart so he doesn't have to do it twice.
Our '07 Santa Fe (3.3 L) has began making a terrible noise when turning the steering wheel. It is a deep, whining screeching noise that seems to come from the front passenger side of the car. It isn't a metal-on-metal sound, but is similar to the sound my old skid-steer loader used to make at work when the hydraulics were going out. It also seems to be worse when turning right.
At first I thought it was the power steering pump, but looking at some diagrams online it appears that the pump is to the rear of the motor.
The wife says that the sound seems to get worse after it rains. Saturday she drove into Austin to run some errands and when she got back home the sound was really loud. I drove it into town and after a while the noise went away. She says that the sound has returned, but not as bad as it was this weekend.
Front sway bar bushings causing "clicking" noise while turning the steering wheel? Usually happens when I'm moving into or out of a parking spot and while I'm turning my steering wheel. I got the driver side, I believe, lower control arm replaced and after that i started getting a faint clicking noise when I'm turning the steering wheel.
The dealer, after multiple visits, discovered it's the front sway bar bushing causing the noise. They said it's really not worth the cost, since it's isn't a safety issue and the whole sway bar needs to be replace since you can't buy bushings alone. I want to get rid of the noise regardless of safety or not.
