Tiguan :: 2010 - Slight Whistle From Engine On Occasions?
Oct 16, 2010
I have a brand new 2010 Tiguan that has a slight whistle coming from the engine on occasion. It is constant and not engine speed dependent.

View 5 RepliesEarlier today on a easy drive (not pushing it) I noticed a slight "whistle-sound" that I haven't noticed before. About then it became VERY sluggish and the Engine Management Light started to flash.
As soon as I could I pulled over and connected my AL619 and it says "to low turbo/supercharger flow".
I didn't notice any smoke or smell, just a serious lack of power (i was doing 30km/h at the top of the hill).
Just tried to locate the leak, but I cant feel it or see it. I guess one would need one of those "smoke generators" to see where the pressure goes out.
So, do I have a broken turbo, or just a blown turbo pipe/tube?
So my 2016 S 4-Motion is coming up on 2400 miles. A little while back, I noticed that sometimes when I decelerate to or cruise btw 20-30mph there is an odd low whistling sound. But of course, not always. I haven't been able to identify any common factors other than the speed. It is the kind of sound you get from blowing over a bottle (for any musical types, it's a middle-C# regardless of speed), so I thought maybe it could be from some kind of gap where the roof rails are mounted because it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side roof. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
View 4 RepliesMy 05 V8 has developed a slight whistle when the air conditioning is turned on and the fan speed is high. This only seems to happen when the system is taking in outside air. If it is recirculate mode, the whistle goes away. It also goes away if you manually turn the fan speed down. My assumption is that something may be caught in the intake.
View 4 RepliesI have a new sound. I recently swapped my coolant and thermostat. After that a slight whistle has developed. It seems like it is RPM dependent, it hasnt gotten any worse after a solid 400 miles of driving, but it also hasn't gotten any worse. It sounds like if someone has slightly blowing into a whistle, but not all the way. What it could be?
View 24 RepliesI noticed a slight whistle last year coming from my front left hub. I pulled the hub and greased the gears as best I could and it sort of went away. Now this year it is a little louder. It only happens when the hub is locked. Is starts around 20mph and goes away at 40. Is the bearing in the hub shot or is this normal. 4x4 works fine and there is no visible excess wear on the gears. The truck has 93k.
View 6 RepliesAre they known to cause any noise? VGT Solenoid.
I have recently developed a slight whistle/squeal when boosting and when letting off on the pedal. I initially thought I had a CAC boot starting to split out, but since it's making the noise when I let off as well I doubt that the problem.
It isn't constant, and only does it for a second or two when it happens. It's not extremely loud, just loud enough to make you wonder what the heck it is...
I bought a new 2014 Prius plug-in base model two weeks ago. No problems until yesterday.
The engine has started revving really loudly on occasion. It's much louder than the normal ICE noise in hybrid mode - 2 or 3x as loud (much louder than our regular Honda Civic engine).
When the revving happens when I'm in EV mode, the EV mode light on left side of dash stays on (but it's clearly not in EV mode). The EV and Eco symbols above the power bar go blank. The MPG won't go above 25 mpg, no matter if I'm not touching the accelerator. Switching from EV to Hybrid mode and back does nothing.
The only way to get it to stop is to stop the car, turn it off, turn it back on, and then it's fine - EV or Hybrid mode, it sounds normal again. I have not tried to drive more than a mile with the noise to see if it goes away. It occurs when:
-If the fan, heat or defrost is on when I turn the car on - turning them off doesn't stop the revving.
-If I switch the fan, heat or defrost on when stopped at a light - turning off doesn't stop it. (But it doesn't happen if I turn heat or defrost on while moving in EV or Hybrid mode.)
-If I switch from EV to Hybrid mode while stopped at a light.
The weather is cooler now and I'm fine with the ICE starting to warm up the engine, the compartment, etc, but the revving noise doesn't seem normal.
For those of you with more experience with the Hymotion pack than I:
1) What does it mean when the car "chirps?" It seems like I get 3 or 4 chirps on occasion, with each chirp itself being a rapid succession of 3 individual chirps? I assume it is something to do with the Hymotion pack because I never heard them before the pack was installed.
2) Under light acceleration, say 1 mph/sec, when the engine is just barely contributing to acceleration, at around 31mph (+/-) the engine stops putting out power (the arrows from the engine disappear), the car noticeably hesitates when the engine drops out, I get 3 or 4 chirps, then the engine comes back "online" about a second or two later and all is well. Under normal (i.e. faster) rates of acceleration, this does not happen.
I have a '13 6.2 with 11k on it and it's started making a weird noise since the temp has turned cold. At first I noticed a slight whistle at certain rpm's but the temps were around 0 so I didn't think too much of it since stuff gets noisy the colder it gets. Today the temps were in the upper teens and I'm noticing a new sound. From around 1000-1500rpm I'm getting a whining sound that is noticeable in the cab. It's coming form the engine since it does it while sitting and I can make the sound appear by getting the engine at the correct speed. It's louder when the engine is cold but I can still notice it a bit after the engine is at operating temps. Below 1000 and above 1500 rpm there is no noise. I never really noticed it before, but since I heard the slight whining last week I've been listening more and I know that's when you start hearing noises that you normally wouldn't pay attention to.
View 1 RepliesYesterday, I noticed a rattling sound coming from the entire car a 2002 subaru outback 2.5l 4 cylander (it seems a bit louder on the passenger side but it literally can be heard throughout the car). I was on the expressway and got off and stopped at a red light when the check engine light came on and started to flash and the rpm's dropped rapidly and the needle began to bounce up and down. I pulled into a gas station to check it out more and popped the hood to find that when the car is rattling it is also shaking and rocking the engine of the car from side to side slightly.
When I'm idling the rpm's drop and the car feels like it is going to stall out. Then, as I accelerate, the rpm's barely go above 2000 and jump up quickly between 3000 & 4000. It sounds like a metal on metal rattle with a very slight high pitched whistle and you can hear a fan kick on and the engine try to keep the rpm's up every couple of seconds when the car is stopped. I had the timing belts replaced 2 years ago and it sounds very similar to how it did when they needed to be changed, however, the engine never felt like it was going to stall until yesterday.
When idling the noise gets louder and when accelerating it can still be heard but barely. Also, the rattling has caused the entire car to vibrate all of the time. I noticed yesterday that the oil was low and topped it off, but I don't think that would cause such a hige issue so quickly. When I go uphill, i have a good amount of power but every 30 second or so the car shifts and the rpm's jump lurching the car forward because of the surge of power. Also, when I hit the brakes, my rpm's jump slightly to about halfway above the 1 but the engine does not accelerate.
I purchased a 2010 Tiguan about a month ago. It has about 74,000 miles. Tuesday my wife called me and said the steering locked up. I was out of town so I told her to have it towed home. I drove it today and it was fine until about 5 miles in, the red steering wheel light illuminated on the dash and it started beeping, the steering got VERY heavy. So I headed back home and noticed the engine had a misfire. I pulled it into the garage and put it in park and the engine bucked a few times and finally stalled.
I read a few places where it said a weak battery could cause the power steering failure, so I checked the battery and it showed 12.3 volts. I installed a good battery out of my other car and drove it again. It steered and ran fine for about 10 miles this time. Same thing though, as soon as the red steering wheel light came on, it started misfiring again. Next I cleaned all of the grounds near the battery and drove it again. 10 miles later same thing, red light and misfire.
I have this code for Steering assist:
1 Fault Found:
00003 - Control Module
008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00101000
[Code] .....
There are no engine codes.
I was driving on freeway today and the car start to stutter sounds like it's not getting gas the engine light to blink, so quickly exit the freeway and pull over the parking lot, turn the car off. Scan the car I got 5 codes all misfire 1,3 and 4 cylinder miss fire, I try to start the car it would crank but and try to run but if would die quickly sound like the car is not getting gas. Just wondering if fuel pump going bad.
View 3 RepliesJust installed APR stage 1 software around 1000 miles ago. The power increase is great, though the last couple days i noticed a slight like slippage from the clutch. I dont do any burnouts. Just open it up,( full thottle) here and there. Always let the car reach operating temp before i start driving. I am afraid that the stock clutch is going to go on me. By the way the car only has 2600 miles on the odo...
View 3 RepliesI have a 2010 with about 166k miles. I am getting a slight hesitation at slight acceleration or constant speed. It does not matter if it's on highway or freeway speeds. Now I am not sure if this in junction with me changing the PCV valve, cleaning the EGR pipe, or cleaning the TB for carbon recently. It started happening a week after it though.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2009 Tiguan 2.0T Gas 2WD Tiptronic Auto.
I noticed a while back on a cold morning that at first start the idle would seem off a bit.
I only would notice it for about a couple of minutes and then it would smooth out as I began to drive.
Lately that still happens some but mainly I have some hesitation or slight jerking as I accelerate now.
Mainly it will do it while starting to take off slowly/ when pulling a hill/ and when having to maintain a low speed behind many other cars.
I can counter act it a bit by stepping harder on the gas pedal(when there's room) and getting the RPM to go and stay over 2000 like on the highway.
If it is under 2000 RPM you can notice it pretty well.
I am concerned as I have not had this problem before and it is very well maintained and cared for.
Though it is likely due for a tune up...
What could be the most likely cause? I don't really want to take it to the dealer first as they would want a fee beforehand just to check it out.
It had a check engine light on for just a minute one day but it did not stay on.
If it stayed on then I could get the parts store to check it using the OBDII scanner.
I know all Hyundai's 1.8L Nu engines have that quiet ticking noise. But is there a slight knocking sound on the left side of the engine (around the belt area)? Could this be just the timing chain noise? It does this on idle but when on a constant speed/rpm, the engine is quiet.
View 10 RepliesI just towed a friends' boat 1500 kms and noticed while walking around with the vehicle running, I could hear what sounded like a slight humming or hissing sound kicking on and off in the rear, almost like an auto-levelling setup. As far as I know the Tiguan's don't come with anything like that. I don't hear it when nothing is hooked up.
View 9 RepliesWhen accelerating I hear a whistle noise from the engine after 4k rpm. The whistle noise becomes higher as the rpm increases.
Stock 08 3.6 22k miles
My 2007 Volvo S40 T5 AWD has an engine whistle at idle, but it stops momentarily when I turn the stearing wheel left or right, then comes back. Whats up?
View 1 Replies1.8 jetta... Seems to do this when at idle only on occasions it goes above 190F. Waterpump was changed about 5k ago so I'm sure its not that. Thermostat still needs to be changed. It seems like if I turn the heat on it stays at 190F.
