Tiguan :: 2009 Transmission - Getting Vibration Upon Acceleration
Oct 14, 2015
So i have a 09 tiguan with 112000 kms. and lately i have been having problems with the transmission. i am getting a vibration upon acceleration and it acts up with its shifting like switching gears every once and a while like its hunting for a correct gear. this problem has been getting steadily worse. Is there anything i should know about these transmissions that is common to go on them that would cause this. the car is not beat on and i tried to get vw to do a filter and fluid change but they refused to stating it is a sealed unit and the do not touch it.
Is this a software issue (i highly doubt it) as i did a tb reset and it made it a bit better. i am at a loss with this car it is costing me a fortune. One last thing i had the prnd letters light up solid one time a while ago upon starting but it only did it once and never did it again. I am pretty sure this says there is a fault if i am not correct.

I have a 2009 Tig with the APR flash. I had the flash done in 2010 in Edmonton. I have enjoyed it for the last two years. BUT this summer while on vacation the car developed a slight stutter on acceleration. When i reset the computer to stock the stutter goes away. What is failing or how I can repeat it with the stock setting so that the dealer can fix it and I can turn the APR tune back on.

Had my 09 Tiguan now for 3 months and I'm noticing that during cold weather in the mornings as I try to accelerate or keep a constant speed/rom there is a jerkiness/stutter to the vehicle. It doesn't seem smooth if I go I faster then it's not really felt.
This is felt right around 60km/hr.. Or slower.
Doing some research appears that this could be the fuel injectors - those were just done at the dealer under recall about 7montha ago or so by the PO. The Tiguan has 147k KM on it.
What could be a possible cause for this? I also see that seafoam could clean the carbon build up perhaps?

My wife's 2009 Tiguan SEL has quit on her several times over the last several weeks. Each time it has happened as she was leaving a store parking lot--moderately warm, no hard acceleration. She says battery light is lit on the instrument panel when this happens. Nothing else. She says it will not turn over, but that might be because she doesn't put it back in park before trying to restart. She waits a few minutes and it starts with no problem.
I've had into the dealer and another shop I use periodically. Computer had codes for misfire, faulty ignition switch, flap stuck open in intake, and fuel pressure. Ignition switch, intake, plugs, and air filter were replaced. Cleaned carbon from the valves. Have run one tank of fuel system cleaner through.
I see a few other posts on fuel pressure or pump issues. Has this resolved with a new fuel pump? From what I understand, it's a pretty expensive repair since there are two and they sit in the tanks.

Two weeks into an 09 CPO Tiguan and I have a question about a clunk sound. I hear it (and kind of feel it under my feet) if I pull off the gas after a burst of acceleration. Kind of a muted clunk -- not too bad -- from underneath the floorboard, right as the car is getting back to its equilibrium position. Doesn't affect the driving, so my gut says not transmission (auto).

I have a 2009 LX and I have been experiencing a vibration in the gas pedal on acceleration. Its not horrible, however it would be great if I could find the culprit and get it fixed. What was the cause. The LX has 96K

Every once in a while, I'll feel a vibration in the gas pedal. It happens under acceleration, and typically if I'm pushing down and it has not downshifted yet. Then once it downshifts the vibration is less noticeable.
I know there have been issues with the Electronic Throttle Control on these drive-by-wire trucks, particularly on the Super Duty trucks.

Noticed a light rattling noise during acceleration? It only seems to do it at lower rpms then stops? I feel like I remember reading something about the wastegate causing this? but I don't remember where i saw that?

I have a 2009 Tiguan 2.0T Gas 2WD Tiptronic Auto.
I noticed a while back on a cold morning that at first start the idle would seem off a bit.
I only would notice it for about a couple of minutes and then it would smooth out as I began to drive.
Lately that still happens some but mainly I have some hesitation or slight jerking as I accelerate now.
Mainly it will do it while starting to take off slowly/ when pulling a hill/ and when having to maintain a low speed behind many other cars.
I can counter act it a bit by stepping harder on the gas pedal(when there's room) and getting the RPM to go and stay over 2000 like on the highway.
If it is under 2000 RPM you can notice it pretty well.
I am concerned as I have not had this problem before and it is very well maintained and cared for.
Though it is likely due for a tune up...
What could be the most likely cause? I don't really want to take it to the dealer first as they would want a fee beforehand just to check it out.
It had a check engine light on for just a minute one day but it did not stay on.
If it stayed on then I could get the parts store to check it using the OBDII scanner.

I have a 4motion Automatic Tiguan 2011. It always had a tiny acceleration lag which I believe is quite normal. But lately, our Tiguan developed a that-doesn't-sound-right symptom. I feel the acceleration gap is much longer now, the engine makes quite a bit of noise but the car hesitates to go, and it gets a bit worse on uphills. It had a transfer box leak that was fixed 3-4 months ago.
It sounds like a transmission problem to me. Is there something wrong with the power train?

Is rattling under acceleration normal on the tig? Sounds like a heatshield to me or something, usually around 2500 rpm or so, pretty disappointing on a 35k dollar vehicle.
Imagine a drawer of silverware being shaken around, that's kind of what it sounds like, mostly noticeable with the windows down.

Misfire occurs at highway speed under acceleration, the service writer stated "we have to do a coil swap" meaning they just swap them from around, and this is the SECOND time they have done this, according to them this is how VW wants them to address this, now I understand factory procedures cuz I work for a Porsche dealer, but wouldn't you think second time around you would replace those things.

I have noticed that the throttle is a bit light...meaning that the resistance bringing the throttle back to idle is too soft. Two issues as a result. Unexpected..faster acceleration from a stop and my leg tires a bit in town keeping speeds in the 30-45 range. Assume there is no retro fit and/no adjustment. It's rather odd in that just about everything else on the vehicle seems well thought out and executed. I could complain about the over boosted power brakes....or the brake squeel that the dealer can't/will not fix...but the throttle is really getting on my nerves.

About two months ago, my EPC light came on and my check engine light started flashing while I was driving home from work. Never heard of/saw that EPC light before. The car started to stutter and buck really bad when trying to accelerate (on light and hard acceleration). Also, when sitting idle (like at a red light or stop sign) the car would still buck but not as bad as when driving. The only time the car doesn't buck is when I am cruising, like after I just get done pressing on the gas and the car is coasting basically. I call the mechanic the next day and he tells me right off the bat, it sounds like a Crankshaft Position Sensor and to drop it off so he can look at it. So I drop it off, he tells me he believes it is just a bad coil on cylinder 1, so he swapped it out and gave me an oil change (it was due for one). Picked my car up on a Wednesday, it seemed fine. Then on a Saturday same issues and same warning lights came back on. So I had it scanned at Autozone, misfire on cylinder 1 and 3, random cylinder misfire and multiple cylinder misfire, so I call him and tell him, he said just bring it back he'll swap it out. I changed the coils myself since it only takes 10 mins. The car seemed fine for about a month. Then two weeks ago, all of the same issues are back and same warning lights.
Had issues with the EPC light? Also, is any truth that the Crankshaft Position Sensor can be related to this or was the mechanic completely wrong? Read another post by someone else and there was talk of carbon buildup. My friend is mechanic and said that he thinks it might be a fuel related issue or electrical, since the issues keep coming back. Also, it misfires more when the heat is on and seems like the interior lights flicker a little when it's misfiring at idle, it's very subtle, definitely notice it so I don't know if it's electrical, fuel related, carbon build up or what.
-February of 2014, I had a fuel pump replaced by the dealer (it was for a recall)
-Back in January 2015, I had the ignition coils and spark plugs replaced by a friend (who is a mechanic).
-In July I had the lifters replaced (by the same mechanic I called)
-Been up to date with oil changes
-Use plus gas from Citgo
Going to drop it off at the dealership tomorrow.

I have a 2011 Tiguan SE FWD with just over 10k miles. It has been about 2 weeks since the 10k service, all the sudden today I noticed pretty strong vibration in the steering wheel when going over 70 mph on highway. What would cause this? I know the dealer did the tire rotation at 10k, would that have caused it?

Lately having the following issues with my Tig.
When starting up the engine on cold start (or after having the car sit for about 30 minutes) after about 10 - 20 seconds; pretty much right after first acceleration the car all of a sudden looses all power. RPM fall down even when accelerating. Accelerating more only let's the engine stall more.
5-10 seconds later the engine functions normal again.... What problem could that be ?

My 2010 Tiguan R-Line only experiences vibration in the steering wheel noticeably at 70mph plus. The tyres were brand new when i collected the car in July this year and the alloys have been balanced since having the existing alloy weights replaced with new ones in August. What the problem could be and how best to resolve this nagging issue.

Last year my wife and I purchased a 2011 certified pre-owned tiguan from a local VW dealership which will stay anonymous atm. This past weekend we were driving home and noticed a rattle coming from the engine upon acceleration or around 2k-3k. The EPC light and check engine light both flash one time whenever this happens but never stay on. I scanned the car and found a pending p0341.
I know about the timing tensioner so I waited until the car cooled completely and went outside about 1am and started the car, sure enough it made the star-up rattle.
We took it back to the dealer and they diagnosed it with a failed timing chain and camshaft and are going to replace the components. I'm guessing by failed timing chain they mean the tensioner.

Have body work and/or any type of repair that required their doors be removed? I got my car back from the body shop and I'm noticing that the two doors that needed to be replaced just don't sound the same when they close compared to the other (factory) side. It's difficult to describe in text, but the original doors have a solid, singular and non-vibrating sound. The new doors seem more hollow and have what I would describe as a double-sounding close instead of a singular one. They sound like there's one extra vibration or movement when closing. I realize that this is probably not immensely important.

I am experiencing a power/boost pulse when under moderate to heavy acceleration. I'm wondering if this is a sign of my diverter valve failing or another issue withing the turbo system.
I don't have a boost gauge and the main pulsing seems to be between 2800 and 5k in the rpm band.

I test drove a Skoda Yeti 1.8TSI 4x4 DSG and noticed when driving at full acceleration while shifting through 1 to 2 it goes into the red, past the redline.
Then I decided to test it in my Tiguan 2.0TSI 4Motion 6-speed auto and it went past the redline into the red before it changed.
Now because it happened in 2 vw-group cars with 2 different transmissions it makes me think it is normal.
