Tiguan :: 2009 - Oil Blowing Out From Turbo
Oct 9, 2014
My 2009 Tiguan SEL with 120,000 miles is going through oil like crazy--quart a month with normal driving. More if under load--drive in mountains. We have massive amount of oil on driveway. So much I've had to put down oil dry.
The oil appears to be coming from the turbo. I noticed it on the back firewall and back of the engine near the upper timing cover. I took it in to mechanic and he confirmed the oil is blowing out of the turbo. He said a remanufactured turbo from VW runs about $1250 and it'll be roughly $1200 labor to install and clean the intake side.
The Tiguan has been a pain. Just replaced the air conditioner compressor over the summer. That was $1200. Have had two intake manifolds installed due to misfires. One was at my cost, the other VW's. Ballast on driver side Xenon headlamp went. Had to take the entire front off to get under headlamp assembly to replace that. And then there are those water leaks from the poorly designed sunroof drain tubes. I've replaced all four of them myself. They're about due to be replaced again.

My Tiguan is 2013 with 3k miles on it. There is a rattling sort of noise in the 2-3k RPM range which I think is turbo related. It is much louder when cold and quieter when warmed up. Is that normal turbo noise in the Tiguan? If so, why does it minimize when warm? And why does it not continue above 3k RPM? My Audi A4 with similar 2.0 Turbo does not make this noise.

I am experiencing a power/boost pulse when under moderate to heavy acceleration. I'm wondering if this is a sign of my diverter valve failing or another issue withing the turbo system.
I don't have a boost gauge and the main pulsing seems to be between 2800 and 5k in the rpm band.

I bought a 2002 gti mk4 with about 127000 miles on it .I did not know the turbo fans were blown out , they were sitting in my down pipe next to my catalytic converter . So I replaced the turbo myself , and 2 hours later the fans fell out of the new turbo , what might be the problem ? why it keeps blowing.

My turbo started to have oil on the top of it. I don't know where it's coming from at all, it started to blow blue smoke but not all the time. You can also smell the oil burning off.. someone said maybe the pcv system but not sure. Still new to the vw world only owned the car for about 4 months. Trying to add pics but it's not working.. Will keep trying

I just recently repaired issues with my 6.0 and now new issues has begun. The turbo keeps blowing the pipes out of the rubber hoses. Not sure what is happening or why so a little insight would be useful.
Oh yeah out of all the work completed in my previous post..don't bother replacing the solenoid section of the injectors. I replaced two the bad ones, rebuilt the other 6 with new everything including a cleaning and now I am getting codes for 3 that are going bad. Oh well I tried right...

Out of nowhere my fuse #30 has started blowing - thats the one that supplies the DC outlet points, or cigarette lighter plugs. And no, there are no pennies stuck in the outlets!
I've removed and unplugged all 4 outlet points from the loom, thats the one on the dash, inside the center console, behind the center console and lastly the one in the boot. Still a total dead short.
I've disconnected the 220v AC inverter thats behind the center console, and still measure a dead short.
What else does this fuse/line supply? The only things not working are my lighter plugs, everything else seems fine. Any wiring diagram perhaps - I'm sure there hasn't been much of a change in interior wiring over the years.

My AC started blowing cool air last summer. My wife who drives it daily noticed that it wasn't as cold as when we first got it.I was making an appointment to take it in when the clock spring broke and we got all sorts of lights on the dashboard. It was still under warranty when I took it in and they gave us a loaner car. They told us that they changed the compressor, clock spring(which he said was a common thing to go on cars) there was also a trouble code on the turbo. That took them the longest to fix
.They ended up replacing a sensor and then found out it was bad wiring. Fast forward almost a year later and the weather is starting to get warm again here in NYC. I tested the AC and it is blowing cool air again. This time I put a thermometer in the center vent and it is blowing about 54.8 F after 5 minutes. The outside temp was 66.F. I called the dealer and took it in after work today and the service adviser said that 54.8 F was within range.I insisted that they keep it over night and have a tech check it and also do an oil change in the morning since it has 30K miles on it.I was time for one again. My question is... what the temperature range is for the AC in my Tiguan?
I made him give my wife another loaner (2016 Jetta) and when she got home I put the same thermometer in the center vent and it was blowing 40.2 F after 5 minutes.Much colder than my Tiguan. I want to make sure that they don't recharge the AC and we make it through the summer and we will be back to the dealer next year. This time the warranty will have expired.I don't have an extended warranty.I just got a bad vibe from this guy at the dealer.

Did I just blow up my turbo or what? I'm kinda new to diesels, I just purchaced a 2005 F-250. Today I was pulling my rv out of Devils Den State Park in Arkansas, beautiful place. There is a steep grade coming out, my truck was seeming to be having a kind of hard time, then a loud PFFTTTT sound. That is the best I can do for writing sounds. It sounded like a compressed gas cylinder blowing up! The pulling power went to nothing and the turbo gauge went to 0. It sounded fine at idle, other gauges were fine. I'm guessing my turbo is DEAD, what say you?

This engine really puts out the ponys. it tows ok but not like my diesel. The twin turbo does not get the claimed fuel economy. And now the start up rattle. I seem to be getting the run around on the repair.

Occasionally, under the right conditions, my turbo seems to surge...meaning I can hear, and feel the turbo kick in and out...kinda like it is right on the threshhold of not knowing if it needs to kick in out not. This usually only happens when I'm cruising along and just slightly give it a little more gas. Otherwise it seems fine...plenty of power etc. What could be going on here...just the nature of the beast??
My truck is a 2011 F150 Eco Screw 4by....

I just had a Viper 5704 2 way paging remote start alarm installed on my 2012 Fx4 Ecoboost and when the installer ran the wires from the inside of the cab through the firewall he went through the hole that the rubber grommet was in just to the left of the brake pedal. Instead of going through the grommet/plug, he pulled it out and ran the wires beside it and now the rubber plug will not seal and I can hear turbo/engine noise in the cab. Has alarm installed on a 2010 or newer F150 with this same layout and if so where did the installer run the wires through the firewall? Should I have them pull the wires out and run them through the center of the grommet like they should have done or have them make a slit in the rubber from the edge to the center (radius cut) and make the best seal possible?

My mother-in-law just bought a 2009 Tiguan, and she's just over 5k miles. I looked in the owner's manual, and in booklet 1.1, page 37, it looks like service is every 5k miles, just like on my A4 and my wife's Passat. However, the dealer is telling me that VW recommends 10k service on the Tiguan. What am I missing? Is the dealer wrong? Am I misunderstanding the Owner's Manual?

I have been running the APR stage 1 for about 10 months. Yesterday, my vehicle refused to start. I got in the car and turned the key, The console lit up as usual, the second I tried to crank all the lights and display went off and the vehicle refused to crank. I suspected the battery, and tried jump-starting using a booster. While the engine cranked, it refused to start. I finally had it towed to the dealer.
First the dealer suspected battery issues. But today he calls and tell me they are going to have to replace the ECM. They claim they are not able to communicate with the ECU at all, and when they connected an ECU from another Tiguan and apparently that worked. Dealer claims its because of the tune.
The symptoms as I saw it - When I turned the key to the ACC position (with the Batt-booster connected) the console lights up as usual. If you keep it there, the lights also go out one after the other in the regular order. I was under the assumption this should mean the ECU is working and the circuits/sensors are passing the self-test. The MID, radio, seatbelt chimes etc - everything works with the booster/jumper connected - except it wont start
Therefore - can it be the ECU?

I have a 2009 SEL (NA) that doesnt have the convenience settings on the MFD, I have read this can be enabled at the dealership or through VAG-Com. Although my user manual states I can access it (which i cant) should i take this up with the dealer to enable the feature?

I have a 2009 VW tiguan 2.0T that vibrates violently when i hit 60mph, I mean pretty hard to the point where it doesn't feel safe to keep accelerating and everything inside not attached starts to rattle. Regardless Ive driven it to 100+ to see if it vibrates on higher gears and it does. I also have cruised on neutral downhills and stills vibrates the same.
So far this is what I have had it:
-Aligned and balanced tires twice.
-Had inspected and replaced both of the axles with new OEM parts.
-Had overall suspension inspected and everything seems fine.
-Checked the bearings by two different professionals, one used a dynamometer. came out fine
So far nothing has worked, and I am afraid or actually in denial that it might be something major with the transmission. I've researched and read various post around the web but i have not found anything beyond checking and/or replacing the the aforementioned parts.
I inadvertently hit 85 mph driving on an downhill interstate road and the vibration stopped, but came back again as soon as I slowed down to 60-80. Lets me to believe that there is something wrong with one of the transmission gears, probably 3th or 4th.

I have a 2009 Tiguan SE 4Motion with a little over 82K miles on it. Hard to pin point exactly but somewhere around 65 - 68K the vehicle started shaking, noticeably but not ridiculously while driving at a decent speed, 50 mph seems to be the speed where it's most notable. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it as the tires needed to be replaced. I had the tires replaced a few K later but the shake was the same. I took it back to the dealer who did the basic balance troubleshooting but they were unable to find anything. I pressed them and they did some additional troubleshooting but then I felt like I was wasting my time with that dealer because they started looking at the floor and talking nonsense about road conditions.
I feel the shaking regardless of road surface or speed, noticeable but not violent, 50mph and steady seems to be most noticeable. I feel that it is transmission/drive train related because everything else it could be has been checked or changed but I could be wrong. I feels like it's directly under the vehicle, I have sat in different seats while someone else drove and it doesn't seem to be more noticeable on one side or another. When on the highway going a steady speed on it will increase and decrease seemingly randomly. It hasn't really gotten any worse over the past 15K miles or I would have brought it to a different dealer, but it really bothers me, especially since my Tiguan was so smooth when I bought it.

Will a 2011 Chevy Cruze 1.4L turbo engine wear out / break down / fail sooner than a 2011 Chevy Cruze 1.8L engine ( w/o the turbo ) ? Both being automatic transmissions. Driven by the same person. What is the gas mileage difference between the same two ?

My Tig came with 17's ... I purchased 19" Savannahs but now my TPMS is on.
I pumped up the PSI to 38 even and its on still ( blinks for a min then solid on ).
Is this likely needing resetting? One dealer told me the sensors may need changing?

I am trying to trace down an issue with my 2009 Tiguan, auto. Its in regards to a stutter I notice in the vehicle at a certain speed/rpm. Almost appears if it doesn't want to shift and unless you really give it. The car certainly still has the power and all, this is also more noticeable on colder days. Today I stopped by the dealer where the vehicle was originally purchased as I am the 2nd owner and they provided me a complete print out of all the service history of the vehicle (quite informative).
Reading through it I found that the not even 6000 km the intake manifold was replaced under warranty they scanned for error P0215. This was on August 2014. They also replaced the injectors during this service.
And then also back in Dec. 2010, 70000km ago they replaced the manifold runner assembly and manifold for the first time.. Appears that they replaced the manifold on this car twice now.. Could this be my cause for the stutter?
Hard to believe that the same part would be getting replaced on a car within 60000km twice..
