Suburban :: 1991 - Idle For 1 To 2 Seconds Then Approach To Death

Sep 9, 2005

My work horse is singing me the blues. It will idle correctly for 1 - 2 sec., then approach death, then idle correctly again for 1 - 2 seconds. It responds as expected when the throttled of opened for 1 - 2 seconds, any longer it will begin to die. This is what I have done so far.

1. Changed the fuel filter. Did not check to see of water was in the filter as I only purchase gas from name brand gas stations. Did not think I could get bad gas from them.

2. Check MAP sensor, voltage signals were close. Changed it out any way. No change.

3. Checked the Engine Coolant Sensor, it is sending the correct voltage.

4. Checked the Idle Air Control Valve. The impedance is as called for in the Chilton repair manual.

5. Checked the Throttle Position Sensor. It appears to be sending the correct voltage as the throttle is opened and closed.

6. Overhauled the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Replaced the spring, diaphragm, and gaskets.

7. Overhauled the Throttle Body. Removed the injector, cleaned all passages with solvent and compressed air. Did not soak the injectors.

In my mind, all that is left is the fuel pump or maybe I did get bad gas.

Gmc - Suburban :: 1991 - Fuse Keeps Getting Blown

My fuse keeps getting blown, mechanically and emotionally. My 91 gmc suburban blows the a/c fuse every time i slide the a/c switch to any position. when the fuse goes my emergency brake light turns on and my speedometer stops working. one weird note, my engine seems to run very smooth after the fuse goes, to the point that im not even sure its running but it is. So my question is, where should i start looking to fix the problem? It's too hot/cold in here!"

Suburban :: Power Window Will Work For 5-10 Seconds Upon Initial Startup

I have a '94 Chevy Suburban with a driver's side power window problem. The window will work for 5-10 seconds upon initial startup but once I stop and try to restart, the window won't do anything. If I pull up on the window while pressing the window switch it will start working again whereas I can let go of the window and keep the button depressed until I reach the desired level I want the window to be. At times I get nothing up or down by pressing the switch leading me to believe it's the motor. It seems to have the most trouble going up rather than down. I am not sure what the problem is, i.e. regulator, motor, electrical relay.

Chevrolet - 1500 :: 1991 Truck Died For 2 - 3 Seconds Only To Refire Itself

1991 chevy silverado 1500 4.3 ... Cruising at 55 down highway truck died for 2-3 seconds only to refire itself. After doing so for a few days it wouldn't start at all. Changed fuel pump, fuel filter and all spark plugs. Now runs fine until I shut it off briefly. Then it stalls on me on 3rd,4th and 5th gears. Bucks badly. Is it a fuel issue or something to do with starting it while it's warm. Also it runs good with the check light ON. Soon as it goes off it starts shutting off and refiring itself when I give it gas.

GMC - Suburban :: 1994 - 30 Seconds Of Loud Clicking Coming From Blower Motor On Startup And Shutdown

First bit of cold weather and I'm getting thirty seconds of loud clicking (or clacking) coming from the immediate vicinity of the blower motor on start up and shut down. Doesn't matter whether my climate control is on or off, it still makes the noise. I'm assuming it's stripped out teeth on one of the blend door actuator gears and I'll probably just end up replacing it. My problem: Where exactly is the offending actuator? I've removed the glove box and noted one located on the left side. I unplugged this but am still getting the ratcheting sound so it obviously isn't the culprit. I had this happen a few years back (same time of year) and out of ignorance and frustration solved it with a well aimed kick but the way it's acting this time I don't think I've got a big enough boot.

Ford Transmission :: 1991 F250 - Truck Is Slow To Engage In Reverse Taking About 5 - 10 Seconds

1991 4x4 f250 idi w e4od w 3:55 ratio... The truck is slow to engage in reverse, about 5-10 sec. It also has a very hard shift 1-2. All other shift points are good. Drop down is good, and TC lock up happens at all the right points (feels like anyway).

I've had the truck for about 2 years now, replaced several sensors an harnesses and a full fluid change to solve other problems but this still remains.

Sometimes when I start it in the morning if I let it sit and idle for a few min it will engage reverse much quicker AND shifts way smoother and constant. Shifts smoothly thro all gears, holding a constant 1800-2000 rpms with no drop or lug. Or do I need a rebuild?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Shaky Steering Wheel When Approach Above 60

Just threw some steelies on my car for winter mode. I was told they were in balance but I'm having a weird issue.

Steering wheel shakes when you approach 60+, but with varying severity. It will shake hard one minute, and then soft the next.

I also found that stepping on the gas makes it shake, and letting off the gas (coasting down) makes it stop.

Is this an issue with the wheels, or something in my drivetrain. I never really noticed it with the RC's.

Suburban :: 2001 - High Idle Delayed Shifting

My 2001 Suburban, 1500, 5.3L, 2WD with 164k miles, has a problem with high idle and delayed shifting. The high idle occurs when the vehicle has been driven around for awhile. When I start it up, even when already warm, idle is normal (~600 rpm). After some time, however, it idles at 900 to 1100 rpm. The delayed shifting happens right away--almost like I have the tow/haul mode turned on.

I have cleaned out the idle air port, cleaned the MAF sensor, replaced the idle air control valve, replaced the PCV valve, replaced the engine temperature sensor, and unhooked the battery to reset things. It still idles high.

I first noticed this a few weeks ago when the battery died. After I put in the new battery, the idle was very low. So I cleaned out the idle air port and valve. Then it was high. I drove it around for a few days like that and then started replacing stuff, to no avail--still high. I also cleaned around the throttle plate.

Chevrolet - Suburban :: 1994 - High Idle All The Time

I have a 94 C2500 suburban with a TBI 454BB. Obviously, I'm not concerned with fuel mileage, but I am currently getting about 4 miles to the gallon because the idle is stuck at 1800RPM. Normal idle for my model according to the index book is 750RPM. it's usually pretty close to that when operating normally (+/-25RPM). 3 days ago I did my biannual throttle body cleaning. Took it completely off replaced the gasket cleaned the throttle body and put it all back together. This is when the problem started... It now idles at 2300 RPM, it threw the code for bad idle air control valve, and I figured I probably got the plug wet when cleaning the throttle body, so I went ahead and ate the 60 bucks and replaced it.

Went through the reset process for the ECM to learn the new one and it the idle has come down to 1800RPM, it also literally DUMPING fuel through the injectors into the top of the throttle body. While I don't believe it is actually running rich, it seems more like the idle is trying to compensate for the excess fuel that is being dumped into the top end. Now, Before I go any further I want someone else's input. "I" think it is a also a bad throttle position sensor that probably got wet when cleaning the TB. But I am worried it could also be the PCM has finally gone out, although this is probably not likely because the entire ignition is run by this and if it was bad, it would stand to reason that it wouldn't run at all. Or it could be a bad vacuums control module. I have checked all my vacuum lines and do not have any leaks, so I know that isn't the problem. So that's where I am. I am hoping to check the leads on the TPS today with a ohm meter. I know my resistance levels.

Suburban :: 2000 4WD - Code P0300 Misfire Only Occur At Idle

I have a 2000 Suburban 4wd that has a p0300 code. The misfires are coming mainly from #2 and #7 cylinders. Misfires only occur at idle. over 1500 rpm the misfires disappear. I have put new A/C Iridium plugs in, new wires, and new coil packs on both cylinders but the problem is not any better. All 8 fuel injectors all go to 55 psi when activated and drop to 28 when released. All tests were done with my Snap-On Solus.

Yukon :: 1999 - GMC Suburban K1500 5.7L Misfiring / Lopes At Idle / Stumbles Under Load

I had to choose the Yukon, as there is no Suburban?

Anyway, I have a very bad misfire in my truck. Lopes at idle stumbles under load. Through substitution, I have tested: module, coil, and crank sensor. I have replaced: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter and upgraded from SCFI to MFI (can you say "expensive best guess"?).

Still getting P-0300, P-0302 and mostly P-0304, using a Snap-on Modis scanner.

Compression tested today: all cylinders between 160- & 170 psi. After this, leak-down seemed redundant.

Back pressure test: 0.5 psi at 2500 RPM, both banks.

Steady fuel at about 60 psi.

I am going to pull distributor (175K miles) and examine drive gear. Not too sloppy at rotor bearing. However, how do I set baseline timing when I re-install distributor? If the distributor is OK, what test or part should I look at next?

No engine lights on or anything, light all still worked fine, just the engine shut off on me.

Ford - Ranger :: 1991 - Surges At Idle / CEL Comes On But Goes Off In Less Than 30 Minutes

About a year ago several things started with my 1991 Ranger (180,000 miles, and has always run just like it did when I drove it off the lot). Maybe they are related, maybe not.

1) significantly reduced mileage,
2) surging at idle from 1000 rpm up to 1300 rpm and then right back down - very rhythmic,
3) Check Engine light comes on every now and then, but goes off in less than 30 minutes, or if engine is stopped and restarted,
4) way less heat available through the heating system,
5) somewhat reduced power.

I have changed the thermostat and replaced the plugs and ignition wires, but nothing has changed in the way the truck runs.

Ford Fuel System :: 1991 F150 XLT - Low Idle With AC On

1991 F150XLT, 5.0, E4OD....Should the EFI system bump up the idle speed when the AC system is operating to compensate for the compressor load? Obviously I'm asking because mine sure doesn't. With AC on, the idle speed will drop to around 300rpm in Drive, like when sitting at a red light for example. Surely this isn't normal operation...is it?

I've discovered the u-joint on the front drive shaft where it connects with the transfer case is worn and has play in it. Could this cause the vibration?

Also, The front drive train spins any time the vehicle is motion, which is to say the front drive shaft spins as the truck goes down the road, correct?

Toyota :: 1991 Pickup Losing Power - Not Running At Idle

I was driving yesterday and my Toyota pickup started losing power. If I let off the gas at a stop it would rapidly die. I managed to get it home but had to floor it just to get it going in 1st and 2nd gear, and if it was in neutral it would die without giving it a lot of gas. The only way it will start is if I give it a lot of gas while turning the ignition, and have to keep the RPM's up to keep it running. Looked under the hood while it was running and when I let off the throttle the entire motor would shake violently. Cant tell if it's just not getting fuel correctly or if it blew a head gasket maybe. Seems like it might only be firing on 2 or 3 cylinders.
