View 2 RepliesI have a passat glx 4motion v6 when I am parked or at a dead stop my power steering doesn't work but if i give it some gas its fine. Even in park if I turn the wheel and give it a lil gas it works otherwise it doesn't and yes I've checked the power steering fluid....
View 1 RepliesMy red triangle light came on! and the PS light came on the square screen and my power steering is in the dumps (doesn't work).
Where would be the first place to check? could it possibly be the accessory belt that came off/broke? is it hard to access/replace that?
I have a 2006 Prius. For some reason I've noticed that the buttons on the steering wheel Do NOT glow and they do NOT work...
Horn doesn't work either! And the light on the driver side door (for windows/lock/unlock) are NOT lit up either...?? It's all black and dark @ night..
Is there a fuse/relay for these type of things? If so...where do I start looking?
I took off the Airbag from Steering wheel and removed steering wheel to double check everything...and everything looks good. No damage. Wires are all connected well etc.
My daughter's 2010 Corolla has an issue . She was driving and the battery light came. She kept driving and the car finally stopped. Prior to stopping the power steering stopped. I checked under the hood. I found corrosion on the positive battery post. I cleaned it and put a new end on and replaced the battery. The red battery light is still on which I guess indicates we need a new alternator. The power steering still doesn't work. Will a bad alternator keep the power steering from working? Could there be a fuseable link or relay for the electric power steering some where I should check? I hope the alternator is the fix. I checked on a new power steering motor which is part of the rack and assembly. I hope I don't have to replace these.
View 3 Replies1963 Mercury Comet. My son's car has a strange problem. When turning left the engine will cut out. I checked under the hood and there are no wires or lines being pinched and it doesn't appear to be a vacuum line. When you straighten the wheels, the car keeps going as if nothing had happened. This only happens on relatively sharp left turns.
View 19 RepliesI have a 63 dodge pickup with a habit of burning out ignition coils within 2 weeks. It's happened with the slant 6 motor, it's happened with the 318 v8 and its also happened with the current motor a 440. I have changed the ballast resistor, and the ignition switch, as well as the starter solenoid, and all related wiring.
View 4 RepliesSeveral years ago my '63 Valiant had some overheating issues, which I resolved with some stop-leak. This weekend, feeling neglectful, I washed her, added a quart of oil, and added some premixed coolant. That evening when I drove it, it overheated. I know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but now what do I do? It's obviously lost coolant. I'm leaning towards putting more stop leak and more coolant, but I don't want to make things worse. I'd rather not have to replace the radiator right now, but I will if I have to.
View 4 RepliesMy 1963 Holden has drum brakes all round. The fronts had always been a problem pulling and shuddering. I have had the drums machined and fitted new shoes and adjusted them up correctly. The shoes are the correct fit in the machined drums.
They are now working really well when cold. Once they heat up I am getting a bit of shudder, nowhere as bad as before but still annoying. No longer pulling to any great extent. My question is, why would the shudder only happen after driving for a while and the brakes warm up?
I rebuilt a 1963 ford 2B crburetor with manual choke. Put the carburetor on and it runs very rough. Won't go below 800 rpm or it dies and I need to choke it to start. Thought it was a vacumn leak so sprayed WD -40 and no change in idle. So pulled off the carburetor and put on the previous carburetor (with electric choke) and it runs great. I want to use the manual choke to hook up the cable though. I replaced everything in the carb. What do you think it is?
View 5 RepliesEngine is a 69 390, fresh rebuild by the PO... Aluminum intake manifold and new Edelbrock 4bbl Drop in Crane ignition.
Runs great... Except when its warm out, or even on cold days when its warmed up after a substantial drive..
AT that point here is what happens: No issue until I shut it off then it diesels badly, THEN.. When I restart it will not idle, dies.. If I keep my foot on the accelerator it will keep running, but not well.. If I let it run for a good while, 5-10 mins, it smooths out... Consistently acts like this .. Again.. Not when the engine is cold, and not on a cold day until it really warms up..
I suspected a vacuum leak? Replaced any suspicious vac tubing.. Cant get to the AT modulator easily, have not checked it yet?? Also suspect the intake manifold??
I have a 63 Falcon that the generator went out on. I replaced the generator and the regulator and it still isn't charging. A friend of mine told me if I disconnect the FLD at the generator and connect a jumper between FLD and the battery + terminal it should start charging which it does. I have swapped out two different generators and regulators now and it is still doing it.
View 5 RepliesMy son has a 1963 Mercury Comet with a 170 straight 6 and automatic trans. Originally it would die when he made a sharp left. We fixed that by rebuilding the carb and putting in a new float. Then we found that the back brakes weren't working and had to replace a clogged brake line. Now for the weird problem. Whenever he brakes it pulls slightly left and the motor almost dies. If he anticipates the pull and steers right the car keeps running beautifully. I am assuming that the pull is probably caused by not getting all of the air out of the brake lines, but why does the car almost die unless he steers right when braking? The car does not die anymore when he makes left turns. These are non power hydraulic single cylinder brakes so there is no vacuum connection involved. The fuel filter and pump have been replaced.
View 10 RepliesMy V10 has the wood steering wheel, and the button to turn heat on and off. I have not been able to get this feature to work. On questioning the dealer they said that this option was not offered in Australia. It seems unlikely to me that a manufacturer would make two types of wood wheel as the production run would be more expensive than just one.
View 3 RepliesI was thinking fuse but left, right and "ok" work perfectly. leaves my MFD stuck ...
View 8 RepliesI have a standard 2012 MK VI Golf (US), with the standard plastic steering wheel (no buttons)
I recently bought a leather steering wheel (with airbag and MFSW harness) which came off from a 2010 MK VI Golf TDI
My goal is to have a leather steering wheel (having the Steering wheel buttons function correctly can come later) so i am not upgrading the control module at this time....so......
I did the swap... (so i pulled the stock SW and airbag out....installed the TDI SW and airbag with the MFSW harness that came with it) all lights are off (after driving it and turning the steering wheel all the way left/right) but the horn is not working....
All electronics on my steering wheel (cruise control, radio functions, menu scrolling) no longer work. Dealer says I need a new steering wheel, how to resolve this problem?
View 7 RepliesSince the day I purchased my Touareg, the heated steering wheel has worked inconsistently (usually not at all). I bought it in November of 2003 and thoughout the winter I brought it in 5 times telling them that it would not turn on when I started the truck. Of course, having an early VIN truck I don't have the symbol that tells me the wheel is supposed to be heating, so I have to guess... But with below freezing temps, I turn the truck on, push the button and nothing happens. After 5 minutes I push the button again and still nothing happens. Every time I took the truck in, the dealer told me there were fault codes in the truck saying that the heater was stopping because of a lack of required voltage. Several electrical fixes later (some parts blew out at various times and were replaced), it seemed to work. Then Spring came and it won't turn on until fall when it gets cold again... This past fall, I reported the problem again and they put several updates and fixes into the truck but they have not been able to fix the problem.
Today, I went back into the dealership and they told me this was "normal"... The note they put in was as follows:"Tested steering wheel heater in GFF. Steering wheel heater is not failing. Customer will only be able to tell if the heated wheel is working on really cold days. Steering wheel only heats up to 77 degrees."
When it works, there's no mistaking that it's on and it does shut off when it reaches a warm temperature. But when it's 25 degrees out and it doesn't warm the wheel - it seems to me that it's broken... Have such a hard time telling when their heated wheel is working?
I'm also getting an airbag fault which I'm guessing may be coming from the steering wheel sensor since nothing else is working on the steering wheel. Maybe a wiring harness or something?
View 2 RepliesI have the Winter Package on my Treg and when I can get the heated steering wheel feature to work it's awesome. My problem is that it doesn't ALWAYS seem to work... Sometimes when I push the button, nothing happens. Other times, it turns on and off on demand. The salesman suggested that it might only work when the heated seats are on but that doesn't seem to make it work either.
View 24 RepliesOn my 2007 Lexus LS460L the telescopic part of my steering wheel stop working the tilt still works perfectly. It makes a whirring type sound but the steering wheel does not extend or retract.
