I've had my car almost two weeks, but today is the first time I've driven it with the radio off. I noticed some ticking coming from the engine during acceleration, and maybe it's my imagination, but it seemed more pronounced with the ECO mode turned on. I know these GDI engines are supposed to tick at idle, but is it normal to hear it during light acceleration too? My oil level looks fine.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2012 Sonata, just last December I started hearing like a ticking noise as I was driving. At first I didn't think nothing of it as it stopped. a few days later and moving forward the noise becomes intermittent. I took it to the dealer several times and they couldn't hear it until I had a technician drive with me and he heard it. As they began to examine my car I was told that the noise is coming for the high pressure valve and it is normal. The thing is the car has never made this noise until last year.

Pulled over and there wasn't a drop of oil on the stick. It started with about a qt every 1000 miles or so, now it's to the point that I have to put a qt in about every 3 days (1-200 miles)
We cannot see oil anywhere, last I checked the plugs had carbon build up but were not wet. (Recently) We also hear a ticking sound during hard acceleration and a good bit of black smoke coming from the exhaust.
We still owe 5k on it, it's our first new car and I'm terrified the thing is going to blow up before I pay it off. Tonight as I was about to get in the car with her I heard the clicking sound again but this time it was full (just added some yesterday). I have compression and leak down testers, know a little bit but I am nowhere near a "mechanic".
I recently purchase a 2011 Sonata. It sounds like there is a rattle in acceleration coming from the exhaust (passenger rear)
I had the just alignment professionally checked, and it's spot on, but it seems to pull to the left still.
My 2011 2.0t has developed an odd ticking sound from the engine bay that is audible when idling. I haven't been able to pinpoint the source of the sound because once I drop the vehicle in Neutral it goes away although sometimes I do hear random ticks when I do this. The ticking sound is intermittent and sometimes I hear nothing.
In the video at 11 seconds the ticking starts. At 18 seconds it ends as I drop the car in neutral. What this sound could be? I'm going to try to hit the handbrake and check myself or have someone in the drivers seat while I go check but have yet to truly pinpoint the source of the noise.

I recently noticed a noise coming from the left side of the engine where the pulley's are. It sounds like a ticking noise coming from where the belt is. What the possible solution could be.

Now Is it anything I should worry about? Car has 72000 on it. Always used synthetic Mobil 1 5w 30.
This is on a completely cold start up, 30 degrees outside. Only makes the noise until car warms up. Anything I can do to prevent this? Or is it not something to worry about? Should I just let the car warm up a little before I drive it?

Have a 2011 F150 with the 5.0. 91K miles. On startup-cold or warm-there is a ticking/tapping noise coming from the engine for about 3-5 seconds then it goes away. Happens on every single start. Sound like it's coming from driver side on top of engine, but hard to pin point.

View 2 RepliesLooking for some input on a recent "hissing" noise coming from eng compartment. It's only noticeable during initial acceleration, and sometimes at the beginning of gear changes. I am assuming its tubo and/or exhaust related, as I've noticed a strong exhaust odor in the cab as well. I wasn't under load when the problem started but i was under rapid acceleration. Not noticing any fluids or oils leaking. No warning lights have tripped, as of yet.

Mine does a ticking noise, no not the normal ticking noise, but a different ticking noise like something is tapping something. Could this be that the fuel injectors or cold so it makes a louder noise? Another noise is constant clicking when I decelerate or am going very slow. It only does this when it is cold outside and it lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes and then the noise becomes a lot quiter. Is this normal?

View 4 RepliesIt's winter here and as my car warms up it starts to tick. It doesn't happen right away, only as the car warms up and it gets progressively louder until a certain point at which point it seems to stop (or has faded significantly). It primarily happens in idle and in gear but will go away after revving above a certain point (around 1500-2000rpm). If I put it in neutral the noise is greatly reduced or disappears completely unless I rev it from about 1000rpm-1500rpm. Once the car reaches operating temperature the noise is gone. What it could be? The sound appears to be coming from the top of the entire. Also, it doesnt seem to do this when its warm outside. I have a 2011 sonata GLS and I change the oil every 3000 miles. I use either Bosch filters or OEM filters so I know the filter has nothing to do with the ticking.
View 21 RepliesThis happens every single day. I'll be sitting in the car, keys in, or keys out of the ignition and all of a sudden you will hear ticking coming from the drivers side speaker. Then silence. Then randomly you hear the damned thing ticking again, sometimes 3 ticks, sometimes 4, sometimes 2, sometimes more.
It's happens sporadically. A different amount of ticks each time. It happens with car power on and off.
I'm assuming this is a build up of static? I have a subwoofer and amp installed and the power cable is running along the drivers side, could the speaker be picking up the electrical interference?
I bought my 2006 Sonata with the 2.4L when it had 115,000 and it currently has 130,000 on it now. Ever since I bought it I noticed it had a ticking noise coming from the motor, it makes the noise constantly, it doesn't matter if the motor is hot or cold. I've always been a little worried about the noise. The car does runs like it should though. What it could be?

I thought this should be very concerned to us, since we all drive 11' sonata & up. I heard Hyundai installs some kinds of system to prevent this incident to all cars manufactured after May of 2012.
So I noticed, driving to work today, that there was this loud squeak happening while accelerating. It almost sounds like an old belt, or how old brakes sound when they are to worn. I have no idea where this sound is coming from.
The only thing is it happens ONLY when the RPM's are 2k-2.5k. And ONLY while accelerating. Other than that it doesn't make that noise.
I've tried revving to see if the noise is there. I also tried while moving, to hold the clutch and rev match to that zone and still no noise. It only happens while in gear it seems.
Driving to lunch today I pulled out on the highway and accelerated hard. The Sonata didnt want to shift higher than about 4th gear (auto trans w/ the "slap stick" that comes standard. I laid off the gas and the car seemed to be running fine at that point. 1/2 mile down the road the car just died. I pulled over the car restarted fine. At this point it didnt want to shift well and died a couple times. I stopped for lunch. Afterwards I took it easy, car acted fine. Outside of work I accelerated hard again and the same thing started again.
View 10 Replies2013 Elantra manual. 60,xxxkm, owned from new, purchased in August 2013. Oil changes always done within 5-7000km. Was 2000km over my oil change due date when this happened (haven't had time to get it done, been driving my motorcycle mostly). Driving around today I dropped my wife off, then I heard a quiet ticking noise under very light acceleration.
The noise would go away under normal acceleration, no noise while revving, and no noise while engine braking. The noise got worse after about 5km. I was in traffic and engaged the clutch into first gear, the car stalled violently. Turning the key results in a click, then nothing. In 1st gear the car will not roll forward. In reverse the car will not roll back. It still rolls in neutral. Had it towed to my local Hyundai dealer and got a rental. Waiting on the results.
Never saw a drop of oil on the ground while parked, and never smelt any oil burning. I run between 87 and 91 octane, whichever is available. I have the extended 160,000km 8yr warranty, hopefully this is covered as I still owe about 15g's on the car.
I have a 2001 5.4 V8 with 55K miles and the tow package. On acceleration the engine makes a ticking noise. Engine seems to run fine, no misfire.
