View 1 RepliesSo...the trunk light will never turn off if the trunk is open? Just wondering, since a bottle of Shiner Bock broke in my trunk and i want to air it out. Yeah i don't feel like removing the bulb, i just wanted to know if there is a time limit or disable feature somehow.
View 7 RepliesI am taking my 2012 Sonata Limited in this afternoon because while I was demonstrating the Valet feature of the trunk over the weekend, after I closed the trunk the manual key will not open it. I can insert the key into the lock, but when I try moving it right or left it does not budge.
I did not want to force it and chance breaking off the key in the lock, so I decided to take it in. Hopefully it will be covered by warranty.
I tried both manual keys and neither worked. I also tried the keys in the driver's door and glove-box and they both work fine.
I wonder how they will get into the trunk since the seat release is also in the trunk.
Locked the keys to a 2011 sonota in trunk. Locksmith got side door open but trunk will not open with button inside. Other set of keys 1500 miles away!
View 72 Replies2012 Sonata gls, 84,000 km. Trunk will not open. I am hoping to gain access by removing rear seat and back rest. I believe then I should be able to pull trunk release.
View 17 RepliesWhen I press trunk release button on dash or the trunk button on key, I hear the mechanism but trunk will not pop open. I press the button and pull up on the trunk, it is still latched. The key will not go all the way in lock on trunk, I assume it is seized.
I have sprayed 3 in1 penetrate in lock mechanism. Key still will not go in far. I cannot get back seat down. I am wondering if something got caught in latch that is restricting movement.
2012 sonata gls 84,000 km.

The other night I reached down to pull the trunk release and it didn't open! The button on the key will still open it (and so will using the key itself) however so I've narrowed it down to the little cable that runs from the release all the way to the trunk. What I should try? Is this covered by any warranty at all? I know I have the optional top tier warranty but I'm completely blanking on its name.
Trunk not open all the way when using the button on the remote, inside the car, or the smart sensor? It is pretty useless if your hands are full and the trunk opens a few inches and you still have to manually open it the rest of the way.
View 5 RepliesI am asking this question for a friend of mine that lives about 2 hours away from me. She is having trouble with her brakes squeaking all the time. She just had new pads put on the car about 2 years ago. She stopped by a brake shop and they said the pads are good but the rotors have something on them which is making the squeak. I told her the rotors could be turned down to remote the varnish but she said the guy told her the rotors could not be turned down. Since she has moved since she had the new pads installed there is no way to get them to do it correctly. How to make the brakes stop squeaking short of changing the rotors.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2006 Sonata. The trunk will not open with remote, latch or key. What do I do? There isnt a vallet switch.
View 1 RepliesI have Sonata 06 3.3L V6, vacuum getting confirmed code p0171 system too lean bank 1,and pending faults are both lean and rich on both banks and also at idle. i check vacuum leaks but no luck, one thing I observed when I drove car at high speed only 3000 rpm or above LTFT 1 corrected to 0. I am using torque app.
I can not open my trunk through remote key, it is opening with driver side switch, trunk lid latch is unlocked position, remote key is working fine with doors.?
I am a new member here with 2011 Avalon Limited just bought last weekend. I was exploring all the features and options. Few questions are coming out from my exploration. What I have noticed that there is no Trunk Open indicator light on the dash nor any message on the NAV display. I left the trunk open and drove couple minutes, no light, no beep, no alarm... The instrument cluster has only door open indicator light that tells us one of the doors is open but which one, no indication... I believe, 2005-2010 Avalon has this indicator message with specific door shows on the center display screen. I tried to find this out on the manual real quick but couldn't find any. Am I missing anything somewhere? Or is there any trick to turn on any indicator light or alarm beep or message somewhere for trunk open? Or 2011 Avalon doesn't have this feature at all?
Next is, all the buttons are non-illuminated, such as Trunk Release, Gas cap release, Rear sunshade, Moonroof switch, Book light button, Dome light button, even the memory seat buttons are not illuminated. Are all the previous Avalon models have these buttons non-illuminated?
On the other hand, My 2013 Accord EXL and 2008 Odyssey have all these buttons illuminated and instrument cluster indicates which door is open including trunk. These two issues are the disappointment so far, Avalon is a higher class vehicle than Accord and expensive too, at least I expected these features as standard on Avalon. Other than these its a great driving car.
I have had my car for a week and use the trunk every day. Tonight the trunk wouldn't open. Brought it to service and they were just closing, but technician looked quickly and didn't know problem and told me to come back tomorrow. I called Blue Link and they didn't have a clue either. I tried the remote, the trunk release in the car and the release under the trunk itself. I hear a click but it won't open. I even tried the second remote.
View 9 RepliesI went from 2014 Sonata Limited to 2016 Sonata limited. Have had the 2016 for a day now. On balance I like the changes with one exception. On the 2014 if I had Keyfob in pocket there was button underneath trunk lip I could press to open trunk. On 2016 that button is gone. Trunk is to automatically open after x seconds if Keyfob is present.
The problem is the trunk will automatically open as I walk past trunk to enter driver door. Then sometimes if I want to open trunk it never opens when I am standing next to it. I think they thought this was a cool upgrade but it is worse. I may have to turn that feature off.
I did a search on all three of these and did not find anything.
1) Odd noise coming from steering column while turning.
2) Vanity mirror on driver's side, the lid/flap thingy does not stay open.
3) Trunk only opens when using key. Using FOB of door button does not work. You can hear movement but it does not open.
So I noticed, driving to work today, that there was this loud squeak happening while accelerating. It almost sounds like an old belt, or how old brakes sound when they are to worn. I have no idea where this sound is coming from.
The only thing is it happens ONLY when the RPM's are 2k-2.5k. And ONLY while accelerating. Other than that it doesn't make that noise.
I've tried revving to see if the noise is there. I also tried while moving, to hold the clutch and rev match to that zone and still no noise. It only happens while in gear it seems.
I had a rather unfortunate incident this morning. I woke to find my trunk wide open and several items valued at over $700 missing!!! As you can imagine, this really ticks me off! What good is all this technology if it doesn't work?! And I know for a fact I locked the car too!
The worst thing is, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it, no way of knowing until after the fact. This was not a one time occurrence either; it happened once before a couple weeks ago. My neighbor woke me up first thing in the morning to inform me my trunk was wide open. Fortunately nothing had been touched the first time.
I'm worried the dealer will tell me there's nothing they can do about it because they cant duplicate the problem. So what? Does this now mean that the trunk has rendered it useless to leave *anything* of value in the car? Come to think of it, this also makes it easy to break in to the car as well; since all they would have to do is drop the rear seats and climb on through. The more I think about it, the worse it truly is and the more this ticks me off!
I only have 800 miles on it, it squeaks when on un even roads. also, does your trunk make a noise when opening? like opening a rust door hinge? when do i do? i called dealership, they freaking not responding.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2011 Sonata and had the front pads and rotors changed a few months ago. Started to hear this squeaking noise when starting up from a stop (between ~5-15 mph). Check out the audio/video here...this is me basically holding my cellphone out of the driver side window: [URL] ....
It occurs intermittently and sometimes doesn't occur at all. The more the car is warmed up, the more often it seems to occur. Techs at Hyundai couldn't figure it out. They made me replace the rotors and pads with OEM parts and surprise, surprise, the same exact noise is occurring. I don't see how it can be wheel bearings...there is no rumbling noise or roughness at all. But the squeaking is killing me.
This morning I noticed my Trunk release button by the steering wheel, and the release button on my key fob won't work. Using the key manually does open my trunk though.
I checked, and it is not in the locked valet mode. I do hear a slight "click" when I push either button so it's trying to pop the trunk but no activity.
What this may be? Didn't know if it might be an electrical issue and if there was a fuse to check? Or if maybe it's a mechanical problem and i'll have to get it looked at.
I was cleaning the car earlier today, and noticed some swirl marks on the exterior of the trunk. It almost looks like some sort of oil stain. I have tried buffing it out with a wax compound, and simply washing it out but it does not seem to take it all away.
I've attached a picture, its hard to see so I've circled the areas.
