If the speedo shows me going 40MPH, my phone GPS and radar signs show me going 37-38MPH.
Is this something I should have the dealer correct or just roll with it? I've seen others post similar results, so wondering if ALL Sonatas do this?
OEM 18' wheels/tires.
My Sonata 2.0T speedometer is 3-4 MPH slow.
Granted I am basing this data off my GPS but in my CIVIC my GPS speed and speedometer speed match perfectly.
Is this a known issue?
My New (weeks old) 2011 SF GL V6 speedometer reading is way to high. I've confirmed this with my GPS. My last 2 cars were Honda`s - one with a digital speedo (Civic) amd they were both bang on with the GPS.
So, my issue is why is the speedo so far out - 10%. I have to drive 110 km/h for a 100km/h on the GPS. On the positive side - I'll never get a speeding ticket.
But to all of you that claim to drive at 75mph and get 25mpg - I'm guessing your really traveling way slower. What can be done. In this day and age a calibrated speedometer isn't asking for much.

View 2 RepliesI bought a 2006 Sonata V4 with 106k miles on it 2 days ago from a dealer and everything worked fine. When I got out of school yesterday the speedometer would stay at 0 and the fuel gauge has been fluctuating a bit. Also the odometer is no longer working. Shortly after this the ECS and ABS lights came on. I've read that this could be the speedo sensor but not sure.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata SE XM (153K miles). The speedometer and odometer have quit working completely. The speedometer doesn't even move from zero, no bouncing around or anything. The odometer also is not logging miles. My transmission shifts gears just fine and the cruise control works as well. I bought an OBD-II scanner and no codes came up. My first thought was maybe the vehicle speed sensor, but everything I've found on that say the car will shift poorly and the speedometer bounces around.
View 4 RepliesThe speedometer on my 2002 Hyundai Sonata usually works, until it doesn't. This happens most often on longer trips. The speedometer starts fluctuating between 0 and my current speed and eventually gives up entirely. I've asked several dealers what the problem might be, but they've all said they can't find anything (of course it's always working when I take it in.) When the speedometer is not working, neither is the odometer or the cruise control. What could it be?
View 1 RepliesTown and all shops nearby have a week wait to get the truck in there. This happened once or twice a year ago but I'd pull over, shut it off and when I restarted it everything was fine. I'll be driving and all of a sudden the information display on the cluster will show a wrench signaling something's wrong(see image), then the speedometer will go to 0 and all information in center display will show flat lines. This started up yesterday but is now doing it after about 10min of driving every time I being driving. View 5 RepliesI just replaced my OEM battery with a duralast from autozone. The battery had 138,000 miles. Shortly after, the check engine light came on and code says P0106. Map Sensor. Seems like to much of coincidence that this happened. Have read that disconnecting battery cables for 3 hours may do the trick.
View 8 RepliesTHis is about the 5th or 6th time in the past year (2X in past 2 weeks) that the A/C will not come on. Two times took to Dealer & it worked just fine. Ir worked when I drove it, then parked it for 2 hours, and then it wouldn't work. Parked it, and then it worked fine again.
Dealer has no knowledge of this being an issue.
Similarly, my iPhone does not connect on an intermittent basis - again, always connects when at dealer.
Should I do an Oil change? I never noticed this before. I have 5897 miles on the oil now.
View 8 RepliesJust picked up a 2012 GLS two weeks ago. So far I like the car. Unfortunately, I do about 40 miles a day of traffic driving. I have noticed the car seems to downshift from possibly 4th to 3rd right around 35mph. This downshift is noticeable and the engine has to rev to match the change. It is not a high rev, just a noticeable engine braking. Is this normal? I dont feel like anything is wrong just seems like the computers are not sure when to downshift.
When the car comes to a complete stop with your foot on the brake, does the car lower its rpm by 100-200pms? Seems like this is a gas saving technique. I have noticed it when While at a light and I lift my foot slighty the car feels like either the brakes are grabbing or the rpms are to low.
Sometimes when I put my AC on it makes a hum. It starts soft, gets louder and louder then fades away.. It's not all the time, one of those hard to diagnose intermittent noises..
View 3 Replies I dropped my Audi A4 for a 2011 Sonata. Hyundai has come a long ways.
I am having one problem with my car though. Both of my key fobs work for a few minutes after the car is turned off. Then they will not unlock the car. When I hit unlock the lights come on inside, but it does not unlock the doors. The lights come on with the fob regardless of how long it has been since I started the car. If I unlock the car with my keys the car alarm goes off and the engine is immobilized. I can then get out of the car, lock it with the key and unlock it again and it works. I can also start the car if I unlock the door and wait a couple of minutes before I attempt to start the car.
After this the key fobs work again for about two minutes after the car is turned off. The key fob batteries are new and the car has a brand new battery. The dealer replaced the central locking mechanism thinking that was the problem. It did not resolve the issue.
My car is a 2011 Sonata GLS with nav/dimesion. I have 55K miles on it and still have warranty.
I have 90K and the SRS light came on a few months ago. What could be causing it?
View 2 RepliesI bought my New Sonata in March 2012 and loved the Nav Bluetooth. I could say "call name" it would ask who and I would say a name from my contacts and it would connect no problem. One day a few months ago it just stopped working? I took it into the dealership and after 3 service members and the guy who sold my car to me couldn't get it to work they told me my Nav system needed to be replaced. I brought it back a few days later and left it for many hours. They called and said it was ready. I went to pick it up and they told me that it wasn't the Nav system that an "update" needed to happen? The service guy said that it should be a few weeks. Me knowing nothing about iPhones and Nav systems left confused. fast forward two months later it still isn't working! I also brought it in for an oil change a few weeks back and ask them if they have any update and they said no.
View 44 RepliesI have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS and my fog lights wont turn on with the HIDs installed but they turn on with my regular halogen bulbs? I installed HIDs on the low beam headlight and they work perfect with the computer warning and anti-flicker. when i installed the fog light HID kit on my fog lights, they just make a quick flicker for like 1 second then they turn off. I have switched ballast, reconnected wires, and thought of switching polarities. Haven't done that yet because power is reaching the bulb.
View 20 RepliesI have owned and driven a 2011 Sonata for the past 9 months (12,000 kms). In the last two weeks the eco light on the dash has delayed coming on until the car has been driven for five minutes or so - usually around three kilometers. Once it comes on, it will function in the normal manner and will come on the moment the car moves even after it having been parked for a while. My thought is a sensor problem or a loose connection but I am not sure.

View 1 RepliesLove the car; hate the noise. Very quiet up front, well-isolated engine and wind noise. Perhaps that is why I am hearing a bunch of road or tire noise from the REAR only. Noise varies somewhat with speed but it is driving me crazy. Somewhat muted with the stereo at volume level 12 (or higher). I have not been to the dealer yet but am wondering if something is NOT properly sealed or undercoated in the rear. I noticed the wheel wells are partially coated but mostly plastic. Plus, since this is a GLS, there is a large void in the underbody where the second muffler & associated hardware/piping goes on the SE. Not sure if the LIMITED model has additional sound deadening material but my GLS is too noisy.
View 42 RepliesI travel this interstate route often that is somewhat hilly. I always use cruise control. When I got my 2007 Sonata (I4) 4 speed A/T and traveled on this road I never noticed much down shifting. Later my daughter bought a 2010 Sonata (I4) 5 speed A/T, and on this road I noticed the Xmission downshifting sometimes. When I got my 2013 (I4) 6 speed A/T, I started noticing it more often downshifting. I'm sure thats since the final drive ratio is much higher in each successive car. When my wife is driving she doesn't notice but I can tell even from the passenger seat. I can stop the downshifting by putting it in manual mode. but I see the RPMs increase somewhat. I assume thats from the TC lockup disengaging and the CC trying to maintain speed if a long hill. I suppose if the hill was long enough and steep enough that I would eventually lose speed but that doesn't occur(very much). If that is more economically that letting it just go ahead and downshift. Am I the only one annoyed by this constant up/down shifting?
