View 4 RepliesThe trim that goes around the windows, etc. I looked at the topics on detailing in the FAQ and didn't see this mentioned in them. My trim has water marks on it from water drying on it after the detailers at the lot cleaned the car before I picked it up Friday. I am hoping to get the car all cleaned up and a good sealant and wax put on it before I start heading to Colorado for skiing in about a month.
Anyways, that trim is driving me nuts because every kind of metal polisher, cleaner, etc. I find on the detailing sites says to keep it off painted surfaces which I think would be about impossible since that strip is about 1cm wide and runs right along painted body panels.
My main question is since I don't like the chrome on my windows and I am getting visors what are my option. Is it common to just put the clip ins and leave the chrome or do what i have been reading which is to black out your chrome? If i put the 3m typed style visors do i go right on top of the chrome or not and if not how do i go about blacking that out? Which brand 3m stick on visors recommended for the darkest color and slickest look?

I've never had that happen on any other car I've owned. The rotors don't look thin, and they definitely shouldn't be worn out after only a year anyway.
Trying to find a local shop here that will wrap my chrome trim around my grill. I had one shop tell me that they would have to section the grill near the top and that it couldn't be wrapped in one piece. I was shown an example and it was terrible, the overlay line was way too visible. I went to another shop today that said they could wrap it in one piece but I would need to take the trim piece off and bring it to them first. Any close pics of grill trim I could use as a reference.

View 11 RepliesI've got an '07 2.0T MT6 Sport with about 18,000 miles. The round chrome trim ring on the fan speed control knob of the Climatronic panel came loose yesterday. This is the piece between the rotating knob and the two buttons in the center. It's now sticking out a little from the knob and is rattling around.
Is there a way to pop this back on easily? It doesn't look like it's going to fall off completely, but I can't find a way to put it back either. Obviously it should be covered under warranty, but I'd like to avoid a trip to the dealer if there's an easy DIY fix.
I have a 2011 Sonata Limited, I'm noticing some heavy rusting in the wheel wells especially in the rear (not sure if wells are the right term), what can I do?
It's very ugly, It has very heavy surface rust, the car is 2011, I don't remember seeing this much damaged when I purchased the car last winter. I took it to the dealership, they said they cant change it because it is purely aesthetic and the components still work.
I'm researching rust proofing, but that seems more like a preventative action than a remedy, what can I do, it really annoys me every time I look at it. I don't know why Hyundai chose such poor material inside the wheels that rusts so easily. I have compared it to other Sonatas I see on the street, mine is a lot worse.

View 2 Replies2011 Sonata will not go into drive after washing under the hood. It will go into reverse, Park and Neutral, but no drive. Also, the gear indicator light on the dash is black when you try and put it in drive. What I may have gotten wet that could have caused this?
View 1 RepliesI recently acquired a 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS after my old car was totaled. I love the car but I've already had a problem trying to open the hood. The interior hood release lever does not pop the hood. I took it to Hyundai and they were able to pop it. They told me the bottom of the hood latch was broken! Needless to say I'd like to replace the part myself but I cant figure out how to move the hood latch from in front of the engine.
View 13 RepliesI have been out of the country for the past 3 months and I left my car at my parents place. I have a 2011 Sonata SE with Nav. I got a call from my dad saying that my car is dead (battery) and the doors have locked. He previously was able to jump the car since he was able to open the doors with the key fob remote. Now the doors will not open. I assume the battery has died beyond where the key fob can open them. I return back home this week and would like to be able to deal with this headache before I return and come back to a working car. How to get into the car or at least popping the hood without being able to get in the car? I've read up about other cars having a backup battery or special mechanism on the door handle for these situations so I would think Hyundai thought this through...

While merging onto a main road, I accelerated to switch lanes without slowing traffic and noticed the car felt oddly underpowered.. I kept my foot on the gas, and a substantial rattle emerged from under the hood so I let off and drove steady on... We made it to our destination and I popped the hood to find oil soaked into the valve cover and head... I checked the oil and the stick was still wet, but since the car was just running I'm not sure the exact level...
Unfortunately, I recognize the noise it made on the road, and I'm 99% certain it spun a rod bearing... In other words, the engine is shot. 63,362 miles, synthetic oil changes every 4k-5k miles, dealer maintained...
I rented a 2010 Toyota Matrix with 29,000 miles from Hertz Rent2Buy and noticed rust in the engine compartment screw heads, hose clamps, battery clamp, and on top of the shock housing. The pipe before the muffler has it also. The inside smells fine and the car runs fine. I ran an autocheck report and nothing bad came up. I took it to a local Midas shop for a visual courtesy check and they said it looked fine and that it could have been from humidity or rain if hood was open. The car was registered originally in FL and then mostly in PA. Is this rust normal or should I be concerned?
View 13 RepliesI park in a parking garage for work. A rusted pipe leaked on to my car hood for a while apparently and now my hood is rusted. I took it to a body shop down the street and the serviceman said I needed to repaint and reseal the hood and front bumper.
I went to my garage ownership and complained and they said they will take care of it and gave me a number to call. The repairman made it sound like he wants to just "buff it out".
I'm not a car expert by any means. Does this seem like a "cheap" fix and should I argue more with my garage?
