My 2013 sonata gls is only 2 months old and I am hearing a pinging or more like a pop noise coming from my engine about every 15 sec when in idle, what it could be?
View 2 RepliesMy husband and I almost bought a used 14 sonata SE last night, but it was contingent on the dealer fixing the clicking or pinging noise going on under the passenger front door. It was going on during the test drive and continued after the car was turned off. The car has 7,000 miles on it. So the dealer took it to a hyundai dealer this morning to have it repaired under warranty, and the hyundai dealer said its a normal new car noise and will work itself out with time - but there's nothing to repair.
I'm aware that sometimes exhaust systems or heat shields ping a few times when the car is turned off? Did it eventually stop? And when? It really is annoying. I'd like to get this car, but he refuses to buy it if it's making this noise.
Having a weird noise coming from the engine of my 2011 Hyundai Sonata , mom is thinking it's the timing chain , is there a way to check the timing chain before taking it into the shop ?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2012 Sonata, just last December I started hearing like a ticking noise as I was driving. At first I didn't think nothing of it as it stopped. a few days later and moving forward the noise becomes intermittent. I took it to the dealer several times and they couldn't hear it until I had a technician drive with me and he heard it. As they began to examine my car I was told that the noise is coming for the high pressure valve and it is normal. The thing is the car has never made this noise until last year.
View 2 RepliesToday I noticed a pinging noise on the highway when accelerating around 60 mph. It certainly doesn't sound like its coming from the lower end and it happened with the engine fully warmed up. I've always changed the oil on time, never has it overheated and it performs very well otherwise, no power losses.
No check engine light is on. In fact, I have heard this same noise on older cars I have owned (Cutlass Ciera) around the same mileage 105000. I am thinking of adding an oil additive, and I have heard that 1 Qt of ATF fluid followed by a drain and refill works well.
I might also do a fuel system purge, BG's has a good machine for that Could this be an EGR issue? Replacing EGR valve? If so was it easy and where is it located. I am hoping I didn't break a valve spring....
Have this issue during full stops or at slow speeds?

View 8 RepliesI have a pinging (imagine the sound of a trailer's chain hitting the pavement when being towed behind you) sound definitely coming from the front end that is only noticeable when doing 50+. No noise present at any other time....not even a faint noise with the hood up. I was advised to check for play in the tensioner pulley and nothing...feels solid. I did have a Neuspeed power pulley put on about a month ago but did not change out the tensioner. Rotated tires and put in torque arm insert about 2 weeks ago. Just a fyi on what I've done to the car since purchasing in Jan and she has 70k miles. I just noticed this pinging noise 3-4 days ago.
VW guy is going to look her over/drive her on Monday...but I'm concerned about further damage until the problem is diagnosed/resolved.
I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox and I hear a pinging noise when my car is idling and when I drive below 40m.p.h. It sounds like a diesel engine, when it isn't. I have the 2.4L Ecotech direct injection. The dealership says this is normal, but why is it so noisy. What if anything can I do about the noise or is there a problem with the Equinox?
View 4 RepliesWe bought a 2014 hyundai sonata on 28th of october. every thing worked fine. When we test drove we didn't notice the road noise. but yesterday we did notice it and it is unbearable. it sounds like it is coming from the front. I called the dealer and told them this is too much. We asked if we could return the car. we only had it 3 days. The dealer says he can fix it. We think it is a design problem. We just sold our 2009 sonata which was a very good car.
View 24 RepliesMy 2011 2.0t has developed an odd ticking sound from the engine bay that is audible when idling. I haven't been able to pinpoint the source of the sound because once I drop the vehicle in Neutral it goes away although sometimes I do hear random ticks when I do this. The ticking sound is intermittent and sometimes I hear nothing.
In the video at 11 seconds the ticking starts. At 18 seconds it ends as I drop the car in neutral. What this sound could be? I'm going to try to hit the handbrake and check myself or have someone in the drivers seat while I go check but have yet to truly pinpoint the source of the noise.

I've had my car almost two weeks, but today is the first time I've driven it with the radio off. I noticed some ticking coming from the engine during acceleration, and maybe it's my imagination, but it seemed more pronounced with the ECO mode turned on. I know these GDI engines are supposed to tick at idle, but is it normal to hear it during light acceleration too? My oil level looks fine.

New issue is: For a couple days now I've noticed a crackle noise when I break. It is only when I am coming to a complete stop that the noise happens, not the full time i actually have foot on break.
Not thinking it is the bearings. Thinking it may be something within my suspension.
So I started hearing these random squeaking noises coming from the front suspension its what it sounds like. This only happens thou when i drive up into a drive way that is slanted. Or any kind of slow making slanted turns (~5-10mph)
I'm not 100% positive but it sounds like the suspension because it only makes noise when the car moves a little when ever i go up a drive way.
Have a cracking noise coming from the rear windshield/deck when going over bumps when the car is cold? I've had this consistently since I got the car. It also has been consistently cold so there have been no warm days for me to tell if this noise goes away when it's warm out or not. It is extremely annoying though and I can't really pinpoint what it is either.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2011 Sonata with 4,000 miles. Recently, I have noticed that when coming to a stop, I hear a light thump noise in the center console area near the gear shift lever. If I put my hand on the gear shifter, I can feel it move ever so slightly at the time of the noise. The noise is very repeatable. If I take my foot off the brake and start rolling and then I reapply the brake (either softly or hard) it will make the thump noise. It is not very loud and can be drowned out with loud music, but if listening to news, it is very noticeable and annoying in city traffic, where stops are very frequent. I put the car up on ramps and looked underneath and did not see anything noticeable. It will probably require the center console between the seats to be removed.

There is a loud groaning/creaking noise coming from the front suspension area. At low speeds, this noise dominates all other noises and is directly related to hitting the gas or pressing the brakes, which produces a forward or backward force on the front suspension and chassis. I can sometimes hear it briefly just by pushing against the parked car.
My hope is that I can just tighten up some bolts and make this go away, but other posts suggest it may be struts, stabilizer links or other non-obvious sources.
Engine make a sucking noise when turned off? My engine sounds fine but when I open the hood and turn it off I can hear it make a sucking sound almost like its releasing pressure. I can only hear it when im outside and someone turns the car off. Is this normal? Also, how often do you all add coolant? I added mine to full maybe like 5 months ago and today when I added oil to the car it was down to the halfway mark. I hadn't run the car all day and just moved it inside the garage. Does the car not running make the fluid drop or could I have a leak?
