Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: How To Set Up USB Drive To Play Music
Sep 19, 2013
I bought a new 2012 Sonata GS about a year ago. I have recently realized that the car should have the ability to play music from a usb stick. I would much prefer this to playing music through the phone as that eats up the battery and takes up a lot of room. Anyway I tried just dragging mp3 files into different artist folders on an empty usb drive and then plugging it into my car. Unfortunately the car was unable to read the music. are there any special formatting/ other things I should do to either the stick or the music that would allow the car to play the songs from the usb drive?

My 2011 Golf has a single pin connector for use in connecting instruments to work in conjunction with the stereo player. I have been using flash drives in another car, that came with an installed USB connector, to play music. Is there any kind of adaptor I could use in the single pin connector that could accommodate my use of USB flash drives in this Golf?

I have the base model radio in my Sonata. I usually just keep a thumb drive in it to play music from so I don't have to worry about ipod or cds being stolen or anything.
About three times a week on random songs, the player locks up. Filename stays displayed in a large font, and never plays. When this happens, the CD player also won't work. The only cure so far is to turn the car off for a few minutes, the start it again. Just powering off the radio itself doesn't seem to work. All will be well for a few days then it will happen again.
I have eliminated the thumb drive and the music files as causing this.

Bought my car about a month ago, 2011 SE 18k miles. Noticed while backing into our parking spot the steering had some play in it, not noticeable under speed, seems to only be noticeable while going slow or going over rough road. Was planning on taking it in since I still have plenty of warranty left but I always like to kind of know what the issue could be. Seems to be coming from the steering rack or driver side suspension.

o I'm at my dealer and I bought my 2011 DBM 6mt 2dr gti about a week and a half ago. I have zero complaints about the car except for one strange small problem. When I play music through my iPhone 4 the volume at least once every ride will completely cut out and the only way to get it bak is to unplug the phone and plug it back in. The song continues to play on the screen yet no volume at all.

How do you play your mp3 music? I just spoke to a Toyota rep, he was rude, he was telling me my flash drive is not compatible with toyota audio. He said I need to buy 8GB flash drive anything else will not work and I CAN'T use folders. "All this information is listed in your owner's manual" ...
I think the current audio system is a big step back, its limitation reminds me of the $9.99 mp3 players. I was always able to use a 32GB stick, put my songs in folders, or at least be able to select the songs from a playlist. And when I started my your car again, the system would still remember my playlist. I did not have to wait 5 minutes for "gathering information" every time and than spend another 5 minutes looking for the album or composer I want to listen to.

I have a recently bought 2013 Prius C3 (less than 4,000 miles) and for some reason the car won't play my boyfriend's iPod touch. The battery charges when I connect it so I know that it's "connected", but I have no explanation why music won't play.
The car has no problem playing music from my iPhone 5 when I have it connected via the cable.

Audio is delayed by about 2-3 seconds when I play music thru the USB and when I stream audio thru Bluetooth, there's little to no delay. Is that normal? Can it be fixed?

I have a 2010 RX350 and put a lot of MP3 songs on USB stick to play. Recently I have downloaded a lot of songs from Amazon in MP3 format and finding that some of the songs just don't play. I see the name of the song on the display and then it just passes over it and doesn't play.
I don't have Navigation on this vehicle. I can take the same USB stick and put it in another car (newer) and it all the songs play fine. Why some MP3 files play and some don't?

I tried using voice control to select an album to play and it wouldn't work. I have about 150 songs on a USB stick which works fine using the pointer, but I can't select using voice. I've had the car for 2 years and this I the first time I tried using it. Do you state the album name, the artist name, or the song name? Does it have to be listed by file number?

When I use my iPod Touch in my 2010 Prius IV via USB it works great -- the song, album and artist names are all displayed properly on the Nav screen and it sounds great. But the tracks on the albums are listed and played in alphabetical order rather than the order that they appear on the album. For many albums, tracks are in context with adjacent tracks -- playing them in alphabetical order messes up that context.

2013 Prius C with Entune. The USB connection allows me to charge my iPod (3rd generation) and iPhone 4S but I cannot play music via that connection. The system is designed to allow playback through the USB, right? I plugged in a flashdrive and was able to play music. I have tried three cables and none allow the feed from the device into the audio system. I am able to connect into the Aux port and play music.

My music only plays on the left side when I use my auxillary jack. It's a little loose too. Is that what causes this problem? Would I need to replace it? Is it costly?

2011 Sonata will not go into drive after washing under the hood. It will go into reverse, Park and Neutral, but no drive. Also, the gear indicator light on the dash is black when you try and put it in drive. What I may have gotten wet that could have caused this?

So a noise has come up in my Sonata. Sounds like it's behind the dash. Only happens when the car is idling in drive and the AC is on. With the slightest increase in rpm, it goes away. Doesn't happen in N or P. Sometimes goes away, but also sometimes gets louder than what I recorded below. I've only checked the dash and glove box so far. [URL] ......
