I can't be able to fill the gas for my Hyundai sonata 2014 SE and pump has been shuts off automatically 2 times.I tried to fill from different pump and happened same again. This is a new car with 9 MONTHS old.
View 2 RepliesOur 2012 prius three is a huge hassle to refuel because the auto shut off on any gas pump is triggered repeatedly regardless of how much fuel is in the car. This happens anywhere I fill up and the only way to get gas in is by slowing the flow to a trickle and restarting the pump each time it shuts off (perhaps 30 times per refueling).
The dealer says it requires a complete replacement of the tank but I'm still not clear on what's causing the problem.
The last 3 times I have tried to fill up, I have had about 1/3 of a tank. Tthe pump runs for ~15 -20 litres and then shuts off. I cannot fill any further. I have 9/16ths in the tank now, 360km to empty. I will phone the dealer tomorrow. 42000km now.

View 1 RepliesHaving trouble filling car up with gas? Here for the past 2 months its been gradually getting worse. I try to fill the tank full of gas and the nozzle keeps clicking acting like its full. At first it would only click once during the fill up. Now its 5 or 6 times during the fill up.
View 21 RepliesI've been trying to figure out why the dome interior lights are not lighting up when a door is open, etc. The only time those lights come on is when i physically push the light in. I thought it could have been a fuse, however, I replaced the 10 amp room LP fuse, but still nothing.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2013 Sonata GLS. Something I noticed (for the first time). If I leave the car unlocked and I stand in the proximity of the car, after about a minute or so, the lights will flash and lock the doors automatically (without me pushing the fob button). At first I thought the button was being pressed accidentally, but I proved myself wrong by taking the keys out my pocket and laying them on the garage workbench. Is this normal ?
View 10 RepliesThis just gets stranger by the month. I could have sworn when I first got this 2011 Sonata that the console read 341 after filling it up for the first time. I thought it had said that after I filled it the second time (just after Hurricane Sandy - yes, before the long lines - I was lucky) and it read 329. On those occasions the console had read approx 67 & 69 miles to empty. I know I filled it with 87 the second time around. The first time may have been with 89. And when it stopped at 14.x I thought to myself, hmm, didn't it fill to 15.x the first time? Weird. So I went on with my life.
This past weekend it read 50 miles to empty and so I filled it again with 87 (same gas station I should point out). And just like the last time, before this time, it filled with 14.1xx and read 288 miles to empty. It just seems to me that "Miles to Empty" has slowly gone down. On the third filling I believe it may have read 303 to empty.
Is it me? I am imagining things here. Could have that much sludge/dirt/whatever it my tank because of the gas station I visited or the 87 and not 89 that I have been putting in? Oil and filter were changed in mid October and then again in mid March. Thats about to happen again on the 28th but also to have the required NYS Inspection done. What should I say to them if anything? Could I have picked that crappy of a local area gas station?
My car has almost 93,000 miles on it. This has happened randomly three times over the past 2 months. While I'm driving the engine will rev up to about 3k-4k rpms and then the whole car will turn off. While its happening I can't accelerate. If I start the car immediately after it shuts off the engine will turn over normally but the same thing will happen. I'll try to accelerate and the rpm's will hang around 3k-4k and shut off again. However if I wait a couple of minutes and try to start the car it will start and run normally. It happened this weekend and before that maybe 3 weeks ago, all 3 times so far on my way home from work.
To clarify when the car shuts down, the engine and everything else shuts down as too, I do still get some warning lights on my dash. I don't remember 100% but I think it was the EPS light and the oil light. My car doesn't have any issues with burning oil, and I change the oil pretty often.
I've brought it to the dealership and they were unable to find a cause. They gave me my car back and said if it keeps happening to bring it back. I've been reading about the engine recalls and my car is one of the effected one's according to my vin number. However my engine doesn't make any weird noises. There is no clunking sound or banging while the car is running and if the car does shut off, I can still get it going again. The dealership said they tested for it and my car passed.
Before I start the car I will keep the AC switch to the on position. The car will start then shut down. If the AC switch is off before I start the car. It starts normal. Once I get the car started idle or driving I can turn the AC back on and it has zero problems. I took it to the dealer. They did a oil flush and was saying my oil was low due to late oil change. They ran a computer diagnostic and said nothing came up. What could this be?

In the beginning, i was thinking maybe that was my fault that i didn't lock it. However, I double double double checked every time when i left my car. the next day, it was unlocked.
View 14 RepliesI was driving my car on Sunday and twice within a span of 30-45 minutes the car stalled while I was driving and just shut off. I had driven 70-80 miles earlier in the day without stopping, and after about an hour, went back out to run some errands. After a light turned green, I proceeded through the intersection and made it halfway before the car stalled. Luckily, it was on an incline and I was able to coast to a parking lot out of the way of traffic. I tried to immediately restart the car, but the engine would attempt to start, but not fire, like the alternator was faulty.
After waiting 10 minutes, the car started up, and I immediately tried to make it to an auto part store. I made it about 10 minutes down the road and the car stalled again in front of the auto part store. They came out to check the battery, alternator, and started, and said all were fine and they were not showing any issues from their test. After waiting another 10 minutes, the car started up and I was able to make it home.
I dropped the car off at the local dealer on Monday and was told they are not able to replicate the problem, and the computer is not showing any codes, so they are not sure on what to do or fix.
Today I noticed that the 12 volt power outlets on my 2011 Sonata shutoff when the vehicle shuts off. On my old car the cigarette lighter would shut off, but not the power outlet. Is there anyway to make them stay on when the car shuts off? It is nice to be able to leave my phone in the car to charge.
View 32 RepliesMy headlights (mainly right, but sometimes left) would sometimes turn off by itself... if it turns off, I would then manually switch off the headlight and switch it back on (right away), and both headlights would come back on... I'm not sure what is causing this, and had thought it was a defective bulb. I went and bought new bulbs, but it doesn't seem like it's the bulbs that are causing it.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2011 Sonata GLS with ~65k miles. I have an intermittent problem with the cranking, but will not start. It sounds like the fuel pump is "whirring" before start, and this only happens once a week or so. Other times, the car starts fine. The gas tank is ~1/4 full also.
There has been another intermittent issue (not sure if it's related) - with the O2 sensor heating coil. The check engine light comes on for a day or two and goes away wit the O2 heater coil problem. However, I'm not sure a sensor coil problem would cause the car to not start when it's cranking.
Could it be the crank sensor issue? Is that issue known to be sporadic?
After pumping for a few seconds the pump stops because it thinks the tank is full. I have been searching for other 2011 Sonata owners with this problem but can't find any. I see it on older cars, something about charcoal pellets, but not on new cars. Could this be charcoal pellets on this car? The car is still new, why would this happen?
View 26 RepliesI have a gas leak at the connection of the High Pressure Fuel Pump and high pressure fuel pipe. Gas drips and sprays out from the nut area (see pic). The car take a several seconds to turn over to start.
What is the most likely cause? The car is out of warranty, so trying to repair myself without having to replace any expensive parts unnecessarily.
My 2011 has just over 27K miles on it. On Saturday the Check Engine light came on. The next time I started the car, it cranked over for about 5 seconds before starting, which is unusual. Then multiple times Sunday and this morning, it seemed to take even longer to crank before starting. This morning, it barely would stay running. And there was a lot of hesitation driving down the road.
I scanned it with my OBD II scanner and got P0087 (Fuel Rail/System Pressure Low). I dropped it off at the dealer this morning and jut got a call that they are replacing the High Pressure Fuel Pump. But they had to special order it overnight and probably won't have it replaced for another day after that.
Is the high pressure fuel pump the device sticking out the top of the valve cover on the back, driver side of the valve cover, with the multiple fuel lines going into/out of it?
The 2006 Prius that my wife and I bought used last year has chosen a frustrating time to develop a problem. We're at 99,900 miles.
I went to fill up the gas (we were at one bar) and got about $0.30 in before the pump clicked off.
I tried again, and got just about as far.
I tried three different pumps at two stations before deciding the problem was with the car and not the pumps.
Can't figure this one out. I've had the car about 9 months and this is the first time I've ever had an issue filling it up with gas. Basically, if I tried to pump it much faster than a trickle, the pump would shut off. It must have taken me five minutes to pump a little less than nine gallons in. And the frustrating part about that is that you never know which of the click-offs is the one you should stop at.
View 19 RepliesI'm a little paranoid about letting the pump auto shut-off on its own when filling up. Every pump I've been too have a long spring and the nozzle doesn't go very far in, not like the regular gas pumps. So I stop it manually when I think it gets close to being full. Do you all just let it auto stop or stop it manually?
