My cruise control works just fine when my headlights are off as do my brake lights, but when i turn the lights on the cruise won't engage and the brake lights don't work. I've got 150K on the car so no longer under warranty...
View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a 2011 Sonata GLS and I love it. However, I'm having a slight electrical issue.
While driving at night with the headlights on occasionally they'll dim and flicker and often cut off completely while driving or parked. The interior and dash lights will also switch off with the headlights, however the radio will still continue to play. The lights only stay off for a second and then come back on. Sometimes I can make them flicker and go off by turning on my blinker or switching between high and low beams.
I'm trying to figure out if it's a problem with the alternator, the battery, or the fuses and if this is a known issue.
2013 SE 2.4 ... I am away from my car. Should be home Tues afternoon. When I left 7 days ago at 6am, I had no headlights. The light on the dash was on and all the other tail lights worked. Before I had to leave I quickly looked for the headlight fuse(s). Where to find it(them)? I may have to drive home after dark and will need headlights.
View 10 RepliesI've been lowered on coils for the past 6 months. I have been running aftermarket wheels since day one. I switched wheels out and lowered a little in the front. Drove it yesterday morning at 10am,and all three lights came on. Stopped turned the car off and turned it back on and all the lights went away. Drove the car at 6pm and the lights came on. Stopped turned off and on and the lights are gone. Don't know whats going on . The cables that I believe are the abs/ speed sensors are fine no rubbing on the passenger side the wire circled looked like it was at a weird angle but idk. Drove it this morning and no lights. No clue whats going on.

After depressing and releasing the pedal a few times the lights go off, then 2 or 3 seconds later, they're back on even when the pedal is released. This happened all of a sudden. I'll pull the switch in the morning and test it, but what else could it be but the switch, right?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2012 Sonata for 4 years. In the past year I've experienced the ABS, Brake, TC lights staying on. Then had a bad battery and a headlight go out. Got all that done but after 4 months on new battery, it failed, and the 3 lights came on again. According to codes, dealer says the issue is a valve and they cannot give an estimate for repair but to tear down the valve and probe to find it, will cost me $132. That doesn't set well with me so I elected to drive on with lights on. They did say the battery & headlight issues were not related to the 3 lights staying on.

Ive been apart of the forum for quite some time now. Ive been having an issue for a couple of months now with my Traction Control light being stuck on and intermittent flashes of the Brake light (as if parking brake were engaged) and ABS Lights simultaneously.
I'VE ALREADY HAD THE BRAKE SWITCH FAILURE RECALL PERFORMED. When i was having problems shifting and with my cruise control.
This all started this past winter during a bad snow and ice storm we had here in St. Louis, MO. I was on my way to work and the roads were slick with ice and snow. I was traveling no more than 15-20mph on a freeway and as i was approaching a light it suddenly changed to red and i had to slam on my brakes and make a swift right turn in order to avoid hitting anyone in the intersection. Ever since that moment, I've been stuck with these lights on in my dash.
Let me start this by saying I've done a couple of mods to my car. Hids, aftermarket remote start (professionally), aftermarket stereo, amps, new speakers all around, led lights inside, cup holder mod and led tail lights. That's all of my electrical mods.
Ive taken my car to the dealer several times for this problem. They tried hooking my car up to their code machine and they said the car wasn't communicating with machine and it was the first time they've seen something like this before.
They tried pinning the problem on my alarm and stereo. (as they usually do) They said it was a corroded ground. The dealer cleaned that up and said that fixed the problem. In actuality, it didnt. The issue still was there.
Ive had both the alarm and stereo removed to see if this were the cause my issues. NO...the problem still exists.

When I drive normally using the pedal, I can see slight movements of the tachometer as the torque converter locks and unlocks (this is normal when lifting off the gas and pushing it again). However, I notice when my cruise is set that my tach doesn't move at all, it doesn't matter if I'm going downhill, uphill, or whatever. It stays frozen wherever it's at when I hit the "set" button. Maybe the torque converter stays locked when the cruise is set? This isn't a problem, it just seems odd to me.
View 4 Replies2012 GLS ... For a few weeks after buying my car, the cruise control electronics were perfectly responsive.
I find that after a few thousands miles, I am able to turn ON the cruise control easily, but often now pressing the 'Set' button doesn't do anything until I press the On/Off button and turn it back on, hit Cancel a bunch of times, and THEN it might let me 'Set' the CC.
It kind of scares me to think that the CC could malfunction and not let me turn it off AT ALL one day, which is far worse than simply not being able to set the CC.
Would the dealer be able to simply "reset" the electronics pertaining to these controls?
I've had my Sonata for six days, and I love it... Except... The cruise control doesn't work. At all. Never did. I tried pulling up on the brake pedal like another poster had suggested, but that didn't do a thing. Looks like a trip to the dealership is in order...
View 32 RepliesMine has done it a few times now. It seems to do it going up a very long gradual to steeper incline, such as climbing some mountains, when set to 60 MPH. It'll start dropping down until it gets to about 47 +/- MPH, then the cruise just kicks off. No downshifting in sight...
There's a stretch of route 219 through PA heading north towards NY that I encounter about once a month. Yesterday was the 2nd time I've had my Sonata on this trip, and it did it again. It actually did it twice last month on this trip.
The dealer reset the transmission computer due to very cold weather "slipping" from 1-2 shift after the first trip. It appears that didn't take care of this issue, though I didn't mention it to the dealer at the time (it slipped my mind).
I'm reluctant to take it to the dealer, since odds are they won't be able to duplicate the issue. We don't have any roads around here quite like the one this happens on.
Had an odd event this morning on my drive into work. Put the cruise control on at about 75 mph, after several mins came up to traffic and as I pressed the brake the car began to speed up and the engine revved up, I had to press the cancel button on the cruise control to disengage it. Immediately after disengaging it, the ESC came on solid. Once at work, I re-started the car without issue and the ESC light went off. Didn't try the cruise control again on the drive in.
2011 Sonata Limited with approx. 55K. Bought new in Feb in 2010. I have had the brake stop recall performed several years ago.
Still reading through the 2014 manual so go easy. Is there a setting that provides an audible alert when the headlights are left on?
I'm not a fan of auto Headlights, especially since I read here to expect only 2-3 years from an OEM battery.
All my other cars beep at me if the lights are on when I remove the keys.
I have a Hyundai Sonata 2011. The light switch in the steering is giving problems. After I turn on the head lamps and drive for 15-20mins. While driving, giving traffic light indicator, the head lights sometimes goes off for a second and comes up again.

View 6 RepliesAll of a sudden I have only one light (Driving lights)) on the dashboard. I used to have two. I have the Driving Light indicator showing but the headlight indicator light is not lighting up.
The headlights come on OK but not the indicator showing the headlights are on.
I installed my HID kit and it looks great. Not quite as bright as I'd like but that's not the concern. The concern is that they seem to be pointing too low. When I drive up behind another car, the cutoff point is just below the license plate. How I can adjust my headlights so they point slightly higher?
View 12 Replies2012 Sonata Limited... I purchased my car in November of 2011. It had allegedly been driven for 5500 miles by a salesperson at the dealership.
Within a week, both my husband and I noticed that the cruise control would simply not go on every once in a while. The dealer claims to have taken apart the cruise control, looking for problems, but says there are no problems; that I should come back in after docummenting problems more specifically.
I also continue to hear the creaking noise in the sun-roof area. Allegedly, the Body Shop adjusted the headliner clips, but I still hear creaking.
I am most concerned with the cruise control, but annoyed at the dealer for keeping my car for over two weeks and having achieved nothing. I like the car, but this kind of a start with it makes me want to sell it and go get either another Honda or a used Volvo.
My 2012 Sonata is flaking in the grey area on the steering wheel around the cruise and volume controls. Is there a remedy? Would it be covered under warranty? It's nothing major, but annoying none the less.
