So out of no where I have a Clunk type sound coming from my steering column. But only when I turn the steering wheel five percent either way. Steering is still 100 percent responsive though.
View 24 RepliesI'm a 2nd owner of a 2011 Sonata, and am currently at 99,800 miles. I have an extended warranty (so I've been told) that covers powertrain I believe until 100,000? When turning the wheel to the right then left, or vice versa, theres a clunk/thud sound produced from the steering column.
I am assuming this is not normal. Will my hyundai dealer cover this since it seems to be a common annoyance on these cars. Is it dangerous to not get it fixed?
On my 2013 GLS i went to adjust the column back to me as my girlfriend drove on saturday night (octoberfest ) and as i pulled it back out the car shut off. i pushed it back in a little and the car started fine and has until i tested the issue again this morning when i got to work. i moved it about half way out and the radio shutoff. moved it a little more and the whole car shut off. it will not start until i push it back in some.
I am thinking that a cannon plug or something is either too short or routed wrong or something to that effect as i have the ignition on the column instead of the push button.
I'm on my third/fourth (lost count) steering column now on my 2011 sonata. This time around when my guy changed the steering column at my body shop the AC stopped working. What may have happened?
View 1 RepliesWhat to do with the ECS light being lit up after changing the steering column? Checked everything and can't figure out why the light is on, it's the light with the car that looks like it's sliding WITHOUT the ''off'' underneath. I'm assuming it just needs to be reset.
View 9 RepliesI bought a 2011 Sonata (GLS 4dr Sedan with the 2.4L 198hp engine). Till now i got a lot of issuses like the knocking in the steering gear column etc but i fixed all by myself. Now i am looking for a new or used but in a good condition oem exhaust. Because always I am revving really light from 1000rpm to 15000rpm I am hearing a loud rattling sound. Like something in the exhaust is not fixed and is vibrating out of that thing.
View 2 RepliesWhen going down the road I notice a rattle noise coming from the steering column area. I took it to the dealer a week or so after noticing it. I purchased the car brand new and like I said I took it to the dealer a week after purchasing it and they said they could not find anything and said they zip tied the brake lines or some bs hoping that would solve my problem.
It is now kind of obvious and I am going to take it back in to another dealership that has a better reputation.

it's strange, it feels like something is loose, not the steering wheel but the column that the steering wheel attaches to, this only happens when going over dips or bumps, any time the wheels take impact.

1) Odd noise coming from steering column while turning.
2) Vanity mirror on driver's side, the lid/flap thingy does not stay open.
3) Trunk only opens when using key. Using FOB of door button does not work. You can hear movement but it does not open.
I ask this because when on the hwy (60-70mph) you can feel some vibration in your hands. I can let the steering wheel go and it won't move a bit but when hands placed on it you can definitely feel the road, including bumps, and regardless of road conditions. Tires where balanced at 7500mi but it still happens. Regardless of temperature or PSI in the tire.
I thought we had electric/electronic steering and no hydraulics? Maybe unrelated but, when turning in my driveway, very slow, I can hear a slight clicking (maybe rubbing) noise coming from the steering wheel column. Everything else has to be silent to be able to hear it.
I have a rubbing sound that seems to be coming from the steering column when turning. Don't hear it outside of cab just in the inside.
View 4 RepliesI've got an 06 Nissan Frontier and whenever the weather is cold (40s and under) I hear a clinking noise that appears to be coming from the steering column or the dashboard. It usually gets better after I drive it awhile. It doesn't seem to be affecting my truck, but it does have me curious. What this may be.
View 13 RepliesIn the past few weeks I have noticed that as I turn the ignition of my 2007 Honda Accord, I hear a strange electrical arcing/clicking sound coming from the steering column. The car starts normally and the sound goes away once the engine has started. I have taken the car to my mechanic and had the ignition checked out and they could not find anything wrong. How to identify the source of this noise/fault?
View 4 RepliesA few weeks ago I noticed a 'clunk' noise when turning the steering wheel. It only did it the first turn on a trip. Over time it has gotten worse - the sound is the same, but it happens for several turns, maybe 10 or so, before it stops. After the car sits, turned off, for a while, the cycle starts again.
I replaced the rubber coupler on the MDPS, but my old one looked fine, and it made no change in the noise.
Started out clunk sound only if going over speed bump, or bumpy road. Now more often with slightest road bumps.

Lately I'm getting the sound inside the car. It feels like a loose bushing or something.
For the last year or so i have been annoyed severely by a clunking knocking sound from the rear (possibly passenger side) of the car. The noise occurs when there is torsion occurring or a sudden change of direction. I can go over a huge speed bump or pothole and not hear a thing yet the slightest change in direction or torsion will cause this extremely annoying heavy metal clunking knocking sound. I tightened every suspension system related screw in the rear of the car and the noise is still present.
The car is lowered on H&R springs (approx. 1.4 drop) so im wondering if maybe there is an additional stress that has been torturing the sway bar links for the last 3 years causing this noise. Or could it be the shocks (which are working properly)?
I have a Lacrosse that has 110,000 miles on its engine. The car has has regular maintenance and oil changes at suggested intervals ( 3000K). 2000 miles into this oil change, The engine developed a clunk type sound. I checked the oil and it was dirty so I took in for another oil change. I was quite surprised to hear that I needed a new engine immediately. They could not tell me what had failed but I was in need of a $4000.00 engine transplant.I requested that they change the oil and give me back my car. I have taken it to another shop and they concur with shop one. Shop two took it to a third shop while they had it just to confirm. After the oil change, the repetitive clunk became a persistent tap. Is my engine really going to implode in the near future? Is there anything that can be done to extend the life of the car?
View 18 RepliesI wanted to pass along the results of a brake issue I encountered in my 2010 Prius (15K miles) and report to interested Prius owners how the issue was resolved.
Problem: In the last second (or so) coming to a complete stop I noticed a few light clunk type sounds, like something was loose up front. I never experienced any degradation in the braking performance.
2011 2.4 L Sonata. So when I drive the car onto pot holes and rough roads I get some vibration sound from inside the steering. If I hold the steering tight while driving into a pot hole I don't hear the sound. Steering is tight but within the steering there is a part that is vibrating badly and makes cheap sound.
