Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Car Alarm Goes Off Randomly
Aug 3, 2016
Every time I lock my Sonata, either by the lock button in the car or from the fob, the alarm goes off about 10 minutes later.
Can I just disable the car alarm?

View 6 RepliesAbout 6 months ago my 2011 Optima alarm started going off randomly in the night, a couple times a week. It was annoying to me and the neighbors. I park on my driveway and have nothing of value in the car. Our neighborhood is a good one.
When I took it to the dealership for its 15k mileage checkup they shrugged their shoulders, said they had no idea. The next time I brought it in I reported it happening more frequently and even during the day. I also reported not hearing the chirping lock sound anymore, but that I could hear the locks engage when hitting the key fob control. They looked and looked and said that a sensor in the engine compartment had a bumper missing and they replaced it and it worked at chirping again (for a while). They had no idea on the random alarm.
My car chirps only occasionally when being locked, and it still goes off at all hours of the day. Randomly. There seems to be no conceivable pattern. Except that it goes off least when parked in my garage. Lately I have taken to leaving the car doors unlocked in my driveway so I don't have to sleep with the keys on my nightstand.
I love my Optima but am seriously considering having the horn disconnected. And no. Its not a battery issue. We put a new battery in. The problem continued immediately.
I am having issues with 2015 sonata sport. My car alarm has been going off randomly as well as lights flashing/beeping as if I was pushing lock button on key fob. I am not pushing any buttons and sometimes it will happen when The key fob is in my hand and I know I'm not pressing any buttons. When it does happen the little red light will flash on the key fob. I've tried using other key fob and have same issues with both. Also I have had to change the battery in both key fobs about 8 times thus far and I've only had the car a little over a year.
It does not happen all the time and I know if I take it in, my luck the car wont do it and they will tell me they don't see anything wrong. Sometimes the buttons wont work to unlock/lock the car and after a few minutes the car will beep and lights flash on their own and I will be able to then lock/unlock car again. This is getting very frustrating and it has become an annoyance for me and I'm sure my neighbors as well. I even will have people I work with come in and tell me my alarm is going off during my work shift.
Alright so I got my car detailed today, including the engine bay. Since I got it back I've noticed when locking the car it doesn't make that locking beep. But it does when unlocking the car.
Also noticed when locking the car, all doors lock, no lights, and that little alarm red light doesn't stay lit for 30 seconds when first locking the car it just flashes normally. So, no sound, no lights. What's the problem.
I have a 2013 Sonata GLS and I need to reset the alarm system, as well as the door chime system.
View 1 RepliesMy wife is driving my 2012 GLS today. I have the keys with the remote with me. Shes at a friends house and only has the key, no remote.
She just called me and said the car wont start and when she opened the door using the key the alarm is going off. She said she can't turn the key all the way forward to start the car
My plan is to go by her friends house on my way home from work and use the key with the remote. However WTF with this situation???
I just did a quick google search and found how to get the alarm to stop going off by leaving the key in the ignition for 30 seconds while its turned ON.
For my '13 GLS, I leave my fob in the center dash box compartment, and lock the doors using the button on the door. Sometimes when I unlock the door w/my key, the alarm goes off. Why is that, and how can I prevent that w/out having to carry around my fob?
View 2 RepliesI've had my 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited for one full year now and this is the first problem I've encountered, and its a strange one.
After parking and shutting off the vehicle (with the push button since I have the smart fob) if I exit the vehicle and shut the door the car will produce a loud BEEP for several seconds. If I look through the window, the screen on the instrument cluster will very briefly say "key not in vehicle" as if I had left the engine running, but actually the engine is off. The message goes away after a second or two, but the beep continues for a few more seconds.
After the beep stops, I'm able to lock the doors normally by pushing the button on the door handle or using the remote. It seems to happen about every other time I park/get out of the car, but it is random. The only pattern I've found is it always happens if I am in a rush. If I turn off the car, open and close the door quickly, it almost always beeps at me. But if I turn off the car, sit inside for a few extra seconds and THEN get out, it seems to be fine. What could be causing this?
I had a rather unfortunate incident this morning. I woke to find my trunk wide open and several items valued at over $700 missing!!! As you can imagine, this really ticks me off! What good is all this technology if it doesn't work?! And I know for a fact I locked the car too!
The worst thing is, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it, no way of knowing until after the fact. This was not a one time occurrence either; it happened once before a couple weeks ago. My neighbor woke me up first thing in the morning to inform me my trunk was wide open. Fortunately nothing had been touched the first time.
I'm worried the dealer will tell me there's nothing they can do about it because they cant duplicate the problem. So what? Does this now mean that the trunk has rendered it useless to leave *anything* of value in the car? Come to think of it, this also makes it easy to break in to the car as well; since all they would have to do is drop the rear seats and climb on through. The more I think about it, the worse it truly is and the more this ticks me off!
My car has almost 93,000 miles on it. This has happened randomly three times over the past 2 months. While I'm driving the engine will rev up to about 3k-4k rpms and then the whole car will turn off. While its happening I can't accelerate. If I start the car immediately after it shuts off the engine will turn over normally but the same thing will happen. I'll try to accelerate and the rpm's will hang around 3k-4k and shut off again. However if I wait a couple of minutes and try to start the car it will start and run normally. It happened this weekend and before that maybe 3 weeks ago, all 3 times so far on my way home from work.
To clarify when the car shuts down, the engine and everything else shuts down as too, I do still get some warning lights on my dash. I don't remember 100% but I think it was the EPS light and the oil light. My car doesn't have any issues with burning oil, and I change the oil pretty often.
I've brought it to the dealership and they were unable to find a cause. They gave me my car back and said if it keeps happening to bring it back. I've been reading about the engine recalls and my car is one of the effected one's according to my vin number. However my engine doesn't make any weird noises. There is no clunking sound or banging while the car is running and if the car does shut off, I can still get it going again. The dealership said they tested for it and my car passed.
My mother has a 2012 sonata. She told me that her drl will shut off when she turns her headlights on. Is this normal or is something maybe wrong. She also mentioned that they will sometimes shut off at random while driving.
View 8 Replies2013 Sonata Limited. The seat heaters come on at random intervals. The switch is in the off position and the lights on the switch are off yet the heat still comes on. If I move the switch to either High, or Low the light and the heat comes on. When I turn the switch off the heat stops. The dealer looked at the switches and seat today and could not find anything.
View 1 RepliesSometimes when I start my car, parking brake light fails to go off. I know this is usually indicative of low brake fluid, but mine is not low. I rarely use the brake so I don't think it's the parking brake switch either as it only happens if the parking brake is not engaged. Never happens on the occasional use of it.
Restarting doesn't seem to work unless I set the brake, restart, then disengage it. Very strange problem. Not a big deal but is a bit perplexing. I never see a CEL or any codes generated at all.
I purchased my 2012 Sonata 2.0T about two months ago and have absolutely loved it and just ordered an intake and sound plate etc. The car has been running 100% perfect. i went out today to start it and noticed immediately it turned over numerous times before firing off. I proceeded about 2 miles to the gas station and noticed it was cutting out a little bit. I got gas and all the way home it got worse and then the check engine light came on. at idle it sounds smooth with a little flutter out of the exhaust but the moment you rev etc...it instantly cuts out and shoots out a lot of white smoke and black water. it has 54K miles so I should be good on most things with factory warranty? this is random!
View 4 RepliesBought a 2012 Sonata GLS back on July 3rd. I've had 3 instances where I'll be running on cruise control, I'll disengage it and then when I go to resume it doesn't do anything. I can turn Cruise on and off but it will not Set nor Resume. I have to stop and turn the car off and then back on for it to work again. I have a service appointment this Saturday for an alignment issue so I'm going to have them check this out too.

View 3 RepliesMy dad has a very low mileage '12 Camry XLE with the 4-cylinder motor. Recently, the alarm will just go off randomly. After re-arming it, it may go off again in a few minutes, and may do this many times in a row. Or, weeks may pass where it doesn't happen at all. It is a really annoying issue. The battery is fully charged, and both FOBs had their batteries replaced.
I know if it is brought to the dealer, and the problem cannot be replicated while there, they will tell us that they cannot diagnose it. I have read that it may be the hood latch and sensor.
My car alarm keeps going off randomly. It doesn't matter if I lock it or not. The car alarm just goes off and quits on its own. What might be wrong?
View 10 Replies I have the car in storage for the winter, and from time to time i will go out and start it. I also hook up one of those automatic battery tenders every so often to make sure that my battery doesn't die completely. I bought the car about 3 months ago, and when i bought it, i could tell within seconds that the car needed a new battery. I will buy one and install it as soon as i am ready to start driving it again. So thats the background story.
My problem is this.... for some reason, with no regularity, the alarm just starts going off. Sometimes it will go off shortly after i ran the car, sometimes it will go off when the car has been completely undisturbed for days. Im wondering what is causing this. I have read things about the sensors having trouble with moisture, but i don't think that is the problem because it has been inside the garage for over 2 months.
