So I have a 2012 Sonata with about 80k miles on it. I bought it used a few months ago. It has recently started having issues with the brakes.
When the car is cold and I start driving, every time I push down on the brakes they will do a quick grab after a few seconds. Sometimes its a slight grab and other times its a jerking grab. After I drive 10-20 miles or so and it warms up this goes away.
I have a 2011 Sonata with 40k miles and am hearing what sounds like a dragging ... medal touching medal .... brakes dragging sound coming from the passenger side mainly when the car is cold. Could this be a possible wheel bearing going out???
the car is lowered about an 1.5 inches and and sit on a staggered wheel set. 18x8.5 up front and 18x9.5 in the rear. Just want to know if I should be worried.
Ive noticed that if I start my car, and put it into drive, there's a 2-3 second delay before the car moves after hitting the gas. It almost feels like the car is stalling, but it's not. It only happens that first time after a cold start.
If I put my car into reverse first, like when backing out of the garage, it doesn't do it. Only when going directly from park to drive. Is this normal?
Have a noise from cold starts in the morning when it is cold outside? Mine does a ticking noise, no not the normal ticking noise, but a different ticking noise like something is tapping something. Could this be that the fuel injectors or cold so it makes a louder noise? Another noise is constant clicking when I decelerate or am going very slow. It only does this when it is cold outside and it lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes and then the noise becomes a lot quiter. Is this normal?

View 1 Repliesfor the last 5 months, i have not been able to use my 2012 sonata which broke down in October last year and has since been in the dealership in Dubai and they have never taken any action. what happened is that the car just stopped when I was driving at normal highway speed. no indication, warning or anything came up. the car just stopped and did not start any more.
when the car got back to the dealership they called me after a few days and told me that my engine block is completely cracked and the whole engine has to be replaced. I don't understand this, the car was only about 16 moths old and has 23,000km on the odometer. the car was always serviced and never driven erratically. until today no one from Hyundai took any stance to the problem
What causes grabing brakes in the morning OR when wet???
View 3 RepliesTwo weeks ago I took my 2004 Prius (with about 165,000 miles on it) to the dealership because of problems with the rear (drum) brakes grabbing (sometimes hard enough to lockup one of the wheels). Their diagnosis was that they were badly out of adjustment. They "cleaned, adjusted and beveled rear brakes" which fixed the problem, but it returned this morning. I should also mention this dealership had "cleaned and adjusted" the rear brakes twice before over the last couple of years.
View 1 RepliesAbout a year ago, the rear brakes became very suspectable to moisture and started grabbing. After a few stops the grabbing would subside, but I could still feel the rear brakes engaging a little earlier or more than the front brakes (the rear-end of the car would hunker down a little). So I replaced the rear shoes, the old ones had about 90K on them, not worn real bad and had plenty of life left. I made sure that when I installed them to clean everything, put a skim of silicone brake grease on a couple of the friction points and set the adjusters down so they would be able to auto adjust to the right setting.
The grabbing didn't stop, so I've lived with it for a while and finally got around to replacing the front brakes on the assumption that maybe since they were old that they may not be stopping the car as much as the new rear brakes were. Didn't work, in the back of my mind I'm wondering if there is possibly something wrong with the master cylinder and the balance between front and rear brakes is off. I'm going to go clean the rear brakes again today and crank the adjusters back to see if they adjust to a better position this time around. The drum and disc surfaces are in good shape and color.
Can the master cylinder get its balance messed up?
I have an 2007 Toyota Prius and in the mornings, especially if it is humid or moist outside, my brakes grab badly during the first couple of stops....it's bad enough to make somebody run into the back of me. When it happens, you will also hear a screeching noise coming from the (sounds like ) rear brake, passenger side. I have taken the car to the local garage twice and they found nothing wrong. I have taken it to the local Toyota dealer 3 times and likewise, they found nothing wrong either.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2007 Prius with 130,000 miles on it. I plan to trade in about a year, maybe a little less. I have noticed my brakes grabbing. My mechanic says that the front brakes are sort of grinding and the rear brakes are grabbing. Both are worn, the rear brakes to about 30%, front brakes to 60%. They also say they will probably last out the year. Should I put new brakes on to be safe and to be able to sell the car with new brakes, or should I just wait it out and trade it in with worn brakes?

Now when I apply brakes at 60 mph or above i get wobbling (Vibration) on my steering wheel these days. Is it the rotors or pads or both or any alignment issues?
Friday morning I'm backing my 2011 Sonata Limited out of the garage and I always idle out but this time it started backing about 2 paces faster than idle speed. I hit the brakes and the pedal is on the floor..no brakes..I put it Drive and nothing no power. It didn't stop until I backed into the street curb, tires only no damage. When it hit the curb the brake pedal was back and Drive engaged as if nothing ever happened. Dropped it off at the dealer and they couldn't find anything but did open a case with Hyundai. Saturday doing a couple of backing the brakes were really spongy in reverse only. Will have that checked next week.
View 17 RepliesSo I was told I had a brake light out? Went and bought new bulb and replaced. Turn on headlights and the single filament lights. so when brakes are applied the second filament should light up that give the brighter affect.
Well when brakes applied the bulb goes out completely? Take foot off brake and the single filament comes back on. The other tail light operates as it should. Even used bulb from working tail light with same results.
Car started fine but stalled on first brake application with the skid-control light illuminated, restarted fine but stalled again on next brake application (skid-control light stayed on). Decided to head for the dealer which was only a few blocks away, drove there knowing that it may stall when brakes were applied (engine would start, idle and operate when driving but the problem would only occur on brake application.... approx when the transmission would down shift to third or second gear). My last stop before turning into the dealer's parking lot, the engine quit and refused to restart.... finally came back to life after about 5mins and was able to complete my somewhat dangerous trip (whole journey was on very quiet back streets). At first I thought it could be related to the infamous brake switch but the service rep informed me that they couldn't communicate with any control module with the scan tool. Now I sit and wait, hopefully they will call with some good news soon.
View 9 RepliesRight this clicking noise is really annoying me now, every time AFTER i brake i hear this click, the faster i stop the louder the click is, also when I am in neutral and suddenly rev its clicks sometimes but rarely, I am thinking it could be a loose exhaust somewhere? Its definitely coming from under my foot area. When I brake cornering it clicks too. Checked my control arms and everything, that's not rattling at all? Need to get rid of this click sound!!

The pads I bought were from O'Reily's here and I believe they were BrakeBest Ceramic brake pads. Should I give it some more time for the squeal to go away? could it have been a poor brake job? (I didn't do it)
I have a 2011 Sonata and am approaching 100,000 KM. I had my car put through a general service and ended up with a new problem (my brakes with light pressure would go to the floor after the car stopped) in an attempt to fix this replaced parts which included new master cylinder, booster pump, ABS module and my BRAKES still go to the floor after my car has stopped. The car does stop when I brake so why would the pedal go to the floor after the car is stopped?

View 5 RepliesThis happened once right after I bought the car in February and the service center said that I didn't have low tire pressure, but it registered because "cold air makes the air molecules move slower and sets off the tire pressure sensor". Yet all my tires are at 37 psi. Now this stopped all through the spring, summer and fall and last night it went down to 32 degrees and the thing popped up again!
View 4 RepliesHad a really cold day here, got on the highway and from around 80-100 km/hr the car had bad vibration, would be unbearable for any extended time. I got up to about 120 and the vibration lessened.
