In the last few weeks, as AC season started, I notice a very bad smell, It comes out of the vents for the first few minutes of running and than its gone. Every time I start the car.
View 20 Replies'13 Sonata with only about 8500mi. When I put the front defrost on, the air starts to smell like exhaust. This is not only while stopped but also driving. The only maintenance done so far are regular oil/fuel filter changes - last one was within a month ago and didn't notice this smell before, though we didn't use defrost for fall.
View 5 RepliesEngine make a sucking noise when turned off? My engine sounds fine but when I open the hood and turn it off I can hear it make a sucking sound almost like its releasing pressure. I can only hear it when im outside and someone turns the car off. Is this normal? Also, how often do you all add coolant? I added mine to full maybe like 5 months ago and today when I added oil to the car it was down to the halfway mark. I hadn't run the car all day and just moved it inside the garage. Does the car not running make the fluid drop or could I have a leak?

View 28 RepliesHaving issue when turn steering wheel so slightly either way there is a clunking in the wheel? I took my car in for some maintenance yesterday and 1 was to look into seeing what it was. They said a couple of cars came in like mine and it was a gear on the end of the column that the teeth are worn or even broke. The gear isn't expensive but the labor is. I am also getting the 60k mileage service as well. I should've gotten the extended warranty. Gonna be about 650.00 but i love the car and i`m planning on keeping it and once its done the wife gets a new one, i keep this and get rid of our 98 malibu.

1. The traction control dash light comes on and stays on.
2. The cruise control stopped working.

I have a 2011 Sonata Limited that now has 70k+ miles on it. For the past year I have been having a problem with the car turning off intermittently, it will occur at random times. I have had no issues starting the car whatsoever.
When I go to shut off my car the engine will turn off, but the cabin lights, and radio will stay on. The screen will also tell me to shift to park. Without turning the car fully on, I can shift the gears sometimes and I will shift it from drive to park again, and it still will not fully shut off. Today, it actually took 20 minutes to get it to go off - every time I hit the start/stop button I could hear it click as well, which was a new noise that I hadn't detected.
I have presented this problem to the dealership, but every time I do take it in the issue never seems to occur while there (just my luck) and they say they have "never heard of such an issue" to the point where I feel insane.
All recalls have been taken care of on my car at this point so I am not sure what the issue is, my fear is the switch is going out, but wouldn't I have the same issue starting the car?
I have a 2004 Subaru Forester, today when I turned on the heater fan I noticed that electrical (melting) smell, and the fan thus only ran very slowly on setting three and mostly okay on setting four, but not really at all on setting one or two. I found where the fan is located, but was wondering if it is the blower motor or the blower motor resister. I think on high, the blower motor by-passes the resister, and it seemed as though the smell really only occurred when I had the blower set on a lower setting. The resister is about $45 and the blower is about $145. If I can get by with only replacing the resister, that would be cool because I am assuming a new blower motor does not come with a new resister attached and I would have to buy that separately.
View 4 RepliesFor the past several months I have been noticing a mildew smell in my truck. Today it seems much more noticeable than ever. I have no leaks that I know of. Back in the first part of the summer we had very heavy rains and flooding here and I was in the middle of it, stuck in my truck overnight due to flooding. During that time I never noticed any leaks.
A couple of months ago I saw that there was about a half inch of water in the bottom of my glove compartment. (It's dry today.) I didn't find any wet spots in the carpet underneath. I thought maybe that some AC condensation had gotten in there somehow.
This morning as I was leaving for work, the smell was very noticeable and when I turned on the defroster I could definitely smell it coming out of the vents. What could be the cause?
I have a 2011 Camry. When you turn on the vent the air smells bad, kind of a musty fowl smell. When the a/c is turned on, no smell. I changed the cabin filter a week ago and no luck.
View 3 RepliesI just replaced my OEM battery with a duralast from autozone. The battery had 138,000 miles. Shortly after, the check engine light came on and code says P0106. Map Sensor. Seems like to much of coincidence that this happened. Have read that disconnecting battery cables for 3 hours may do the trick.
View 8 RepliesThis evening it's -12C, I've driven the car for about 20mins, it's warmed up to the "90" mark on the temp dial, and when I turned off the car, and removed the key, the fan was still on. This has never happened before, and considering it's this cold out (it's been warmer and this has yet to happen in the near 2 months I've owned it) the fan running while off has never happened. Should I be concerned?
View 6 RepliesI'm wondering if top tier gasoline is better for our car's. I had a 2002 Camry that stopped idling up with the A/C turned on. I was told that the only way to fix was to replace the throttle body after it was sprayed with some kind of cleaner. No adjustments as the idle is set by the car's computer. Don't want to go through that again.

After this one time it won't do it again. It just does it if the car has been sitting for several hours.What it could be?
View 3 RepliesSo I had the strangest issue with my car last week. I was driving through my neighborhood at low speed (30 km/h) when the engine suddenly cut out. All the lights in the cluster turned off and I could not get the engine started again. It would not crank, there was simply no power to anything but the clock. I called a tow truck and when we were pulling it up onto the flatbed my cluster came back to life. I did not try starting the engine again however.
I dropped it off at my dealership. They've had it since last Friday and were not able to find a definite cause. No codes were found other than a MAF fault 1000 km's ago. They even had a mechanic drive it home to see if they could reproduce it on a "regular" drive. They did an ECU update because apparently there have been other cases across the country where the EGR valve will randomly open at the wrong time and choke the engine. I'm supposed to get the car back today but I find it unsettling that this could potentially happen again at any time.
I have had 2-3 times over the last 4 years where I got back to my car and I was not able to start the car. It would crank, sometimes even start for a few seconds and run really rough, then die again. Once I was able to get it started by repeated attempts, another time I had to get it boosted.
I recently rented a lovely studio apartment that the home owners built above their double garage. Both of their cars are parked in the garage every night. From the Cabriolet (20 years old) comes a powerful smell of gas after the car is turned off, which rises to my apartment. Opening the windows doesn't even work. It seems like this powerful odor is coming up through the floor and through the windows. What is the problem with this vehicle that it should be emitting such heavy fumes? By the way, their other car is a 2011 Sentra, which doesn't seem to have any bearing on this problem.
View 2 RepliesI was sitting in a parking lot waiting for someone for about 2 mins when I went to drive away I turned the steering wheel and the car stalled. This never happened to me before it has not happened again yet. I did also have the A/C on if this makes a difference. I figure the ac clutch engaged at that same time or some fluke thing happened.
View 4 RepliesNew prob for my 2006 Sonata 3.3 L. After I drive it for 5 to 30 minutes, the ESC Off light comes on. Prior to it coming on the ESC off button appears to work fine, and if I peel out from a stop the ESC system seems to work fine. The only thing I have done recently was change the battery and the drivers low beam headlight. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery again, but same prob. Is it time to just take it into the shop? BTW, I already had the recalled brake/stop light switch replaced over 6 months ago.
View 13 RepliesMy 2008 Sonata finally let me down after 4-1/2 years of flawless service. Turned the key, it cranks fine, but won't start. I think it's the fuel pump. It has 63,000 miles now so the bumper-to-bimper warranty is over. Is the fuel pump (if that's it) covered by the 100,000 mile drive train warranty? I checked fuses and they are all fine. I don't know if there is a fuel cutoff switch. It might just be the pump relay...but I want to have it towed, and the choice is dealer or my regular mechanic.

It turned off after about 10sec but I haven't driven the car for 8 hours. Does it level itself all the time even when not running? Do I have a leak or could it just be that it's now getting cold and was warmer today?
View 6 RepliesMy car 2006 Sonata GLS 3.3 litre's throttle pedal stopped responding and the check engine light turned on I scanned the codes came back bad TPS and Pedal Position Sensor so I changed both disconnected the positive battery terminal but still no throughout pedal response and I'm getting P2106, P1295, P0638 and pending codes P0222 and P2135. I'm at a complete loss as to what to do.
