I have a 2014 Sonota GLS purchased in February of this year. Kept all service dates and oil changes. Have a problem with engine noise? Not like low oil knocking or anything, just cheap engine loud?

View 12 RepliesI purchased a 2011 Sonata about 6 weeks ago. I like almost everything about it, but the engine is very noisy. I'm not talking about a loud growl when you accelerate, but it's almost sounds like there are 2 frequencies sounding at once. It's higher pitched and at times sounds like pinging or clattering. It's very hard to explain. Unfortunately, sometimes it's worse than others and when I've taken it to the dealer, it's not at it's worst. The dealer I purchased it from told me that it was normal, even though I drove another 2011 on their lot that did not have the sound. Another dealer told me that it was a loud fuel pump because of the high pressure of the injectors and that Hyundai is aware and is working on a new "cover" that should muffle the sound. When I contacted Hyundai directly, they did not know of any new "cover" being developed . Assuming I've described it well enough to know... The only thing I know to do is wait for it to get consistently worse, and take it in again.

View 2 RepliesI am at Hyundai dealership right now, I really wish I don't need to come back for roof noise again, the noise made me feel ' I don't give a about this car anymore', new york has most freaking terrible roads, there are sharp and deep potholes everywhere, causing the car making noise like shooting ak 47, so pissed, i was so outraged and The consequent is I scratched the rim when Cornering, any easy and low budget fix? I would change my rim in two years, but not now.
View 15 RepliesToday while backing into a spot at work (parked on a flat surface) my 2011 Sonata GLS automatic tranny, when I went to shift the car in reverse felt a big jerk and rather loud noise from shifting.... Haven't heard it since.... I think this happened to me once before many months ago... also on a side note why do I hear a almost a crunching noise when I am steering the car in reverse... I just had my car in for a oil change too.. I'm the only driver and owner of the car it has about 42k on the odometer.
View 17 RepliesI've got my 2013 sonata and have noticed over the past couple weeks that after the car has sat for a while and I shift out of park that it makes a thunk/shifting sound that's coming from right below the car. I think it's coming from the gear shaft but I'm not a car expert so I can't be sure, it's more prevalent when I shift into reverse. What it could be? The car is still completely under warranty so I'm fine with making it the dealer's problem.

View 13 RepliesMy 2011 2.0t has developed an odd ticking sound from the engine bay that is audible when idling. I haven't been able to pinpoint the source of the sound because once I drop the vehicle in Neutral it goes away although sometimes I do hear random ticks when I do this. The ticking sound is intermittent and sometimes I hear nothing.
In the video at 11 seconds the ticking starts. At 18 seconds it ends as I drop the car in neutral. What this sound could be? I'm going to try to hit the handbrake and check myself or have someone in the drivers seat while I go check but have yet to truly pinpoint the source of the noise.

Just purchased a pristine 2011 GLS with very low mileage. The car is essentially mint (garaged + well cared for by previous owner), but has one, occasionally noticeable issue: once warmed up, a very loud metallic buzz/rattle noise is heard from the rear of the car, particularly under low RPM acceleration. I've had many cars in the past with similar noises, which all turned out to be loose heat-shields at various locations along the exhaust systems. With this in mind, I've felt all the heat-shields on my "new" car, and they all seem to be securely in place - though some (especially the rear one over the muffler) seem to be minimally supported by design, and could potentially be resonating with certain exhaust frequencies.
View 17 RepliesI bought my 2011 Sonata with 27k miles on it. After a while (few months) I noticed on occasion when turning I would get a screeching/squeal noise from the front tires. Only happened during certain turns (U turns I noticed where higher chance of happening).
I rotated the tires (Front to the rear, Rear to the front), and then there was a loud humming noise. I got it checked with the dealer and they confirmed tires were cupping (uneven treadwear right?) . So now its been 10,000 miles and the noise is the same. I just got an alignment done and there has been not much of a change.
So, other than getting new tires, should I get the tires balanced? Or just rotate them once more so that the rear return to the front again? Will I have to get another alignment done?
Today I was out getting lunch in my Ecoboost When it started making an extremely loud grinding noise from the front end of the truck. My first thought was I blew a turbo. After holding the break and building boost I discovered it was not the source of the noise. Also the truck runs perfect and there is no smoke. I then took it to my friends auto shop and pulled both front tires off to check and see if anything break related came loose. We found nothing. The noise only happens upon acceleration or cruising throttle, as soon as you let off the sound goes away. So after I found nothing I took it to ford and what would cause that, but they assured me that they would have my truck for a long time while they figure out the issue.

There is a loud groaning/creaking noise coming from the front suspension area. At low speeds, this noise dominates all other noises and is directly related to hitting the gas or pressing the brakes, which produces a forward or backward force on the front suspension and chassis. I can sometimes hear it briefly just by pushing against the parked car.
My hope is that I can just tighten up some bolts and make this go away, but other posts suggest it may be struts, stabilizer links or other non-obvious sources.

View 18 RepliesMy 2009 Sonata 2.4l Sonata has been making a loud knocking noise when it is cold, but it will fade to almost nothing after it warms up. I tried to make a sound clip of the noise, but it was so distorted that I could not even make out the noise on the video.
For some strange reason the noise matches the skipping problem I have been complaining about since the beginning. Yea it's still there. It sounds like it is in the valve system, not the lower end. It leads me to believe it's coming from the valve clearance/ camshaft area.
I recently bought a 2006 Hyundai Sonata 3.3 V6. Had another issue related to the rear wheel, which I fixed. Today, I changed the oil filter on the car (along with the oil). I have heard this engine noise before, but with the cover off it appears a little louder. It’s basically a ‘ticking’ sound.
The engine uses no oil, and has no other leaks. It has some noise on startup for maybe 1-2 seconds (like a loud lifter or something, but it goes away in less than 2 seconds, and at the same time the oil light goes out). I changed the filter today because I was told that a leaky gasket could result in the Filter not retaining oil between starts, causes some minor knock for a few seconds.
But anyway, this other ticking noise seems to be regular, regardless of condition. I have heard some people say that some engine noise is normal for this engine, but how about this?

I own a 2004 Hyundai Sonata (2004 Base model L4 - 2.4L 2351cc - MFI GAS DOHC) which is a 4 cylinder and has about 113000 miles. Anyways, about a month ago we had one of our coldest days of the year. I drove the car to work and everything was fine. Then when I left work (it was freezing cold) I went to start the car and it sounded like I started a race car. It was so loud that I thought the car was going to blow up (no check engine light came on). I changed the oil and that didn't work and so I figured it was something with the exhaust.
Then I took it to my mechanic (applause). He said that he was stumped, the car was noisy but he didn't think it was a problem but he said he would try to figure it out. He ended up taking off the timing belt and said that was fine, he said the water pump was good as well. He had a service tech look at it with him and they thought the issue might be the "vibration dampener" or "damper" So they replaced that but it didn't work. He said it could possibly be the motor mounts but he said when he looked at them they looked okay?
I drove it off his lot yesterday and it is quiet when I idle but I can see the steering wheel shaking significantly. Then when I hit the gas it is still obnoxiously loud and with heavy vibration! But when going down a hill and letting off the gas there is a brief respite of silence (still vibration). It is especially louder in lower rpms and sometimes I think I can hear a metallic clanking/scraping noise when I have the times of "silence" but it is very faint.
